This is one of the best suspense stories I have read in a long time. If you want a page turner this is it. The story involves 2 families, a huge crime cartel and love. It takes place in the Appalachian mountains, in Darlan Kentucky. Gavin’s father is killed and all signs point to Noah, Jamie Hendricks father. Many years later, Jamie is home as well as Gavin (CIA agent) and Jamie’s Uncle is missing. Its a face paced but well thought out story that is easy to follow. Just loved it.
(I received this as an ARC.)
Grave Peril was a suspenseful and thrilling page turner! I felt like I was watching a thriller on TV, while I was reading it! From uncovering the mystery of the death of her former boyfriend’s dad, (Gavin who is a CIA Agent) Jamie is in danger from the time she arrives home until the end of the story, when the truth is finally revealed about his dad’s death. You are left with wondering just what will happen next and exhaling when Jamie and Gavin are safe in the end!
This was really well written and I look forward to reading more from Mary! A great story!
Alford kept me on my toes. From the moment I read the first page I was hooked. Jamie and Gavin had a unique history unlike anything I’ve read before. They both thought they were made for each other, until that fateful day. Why would Jaime’s father go down for a crime he didn’t commit? Or is he guilty alter all? I had a blast going on a journey of searching for the truth while also trying to stay alive long enough to uncover it. The characters were unique and I found I easily loved them. While they both tried to move on, your first love is unlike any other. When things start happening they have no choice but to lean on each other. Will they discover that they were right for each other all along? Their opinions on what happened between their fathers couldn’t be any different, all they know is that one of them is right. Will the truth set them free, or will it cause a wall to form that not even the toughest can break down? I received a copy of this book from the author and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Grave Peril ( Love Inspired Suspense )
By: Mary Alford
Grave Peril is a Love Inspired Suspense with romance. Wow, What a story. This is a fast moving, riveting, twist and turns, action packed story that will have you on the edge of your seat and trying to read faster to see what is going to happen next. So grab you a seat and hold on tight for the ride of your life . The author did not disappoint. Loved the story and the characters, both was well written and well developed. This is Jamie and Gavin’s story. They were sweethearts till a murder took place and then they went their separate ways. Ten years and mystery still surrounds this murder. Was justice served? Jamie and Gavin can trust no one. Do you believe in second chances? I loved this story and the author did a fantastic job on the story and the characters. She keeps you guessing till the end. I think I was holding my breath most of the time.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Such a great story. Non stop action taking place in the mountains and unused mines that can collapse at any time. A murder from ten years ago will exonerate the person wrongfully accused and love will be renewed. As the story goes deeper there is more happening than what appears on the surface. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Hold onto your hat! Grab your seat, and settle in for a spine tingling ride! This is a book that should come with a warning label: Warning! Don’t pick up if you will have to put it down BEFORE you are finished! LOL This is one of those books that you get SO involved with the characters and the storyline, that the house could be falling down around you and you wouldn’t even notice! So, allow me to introduce you to my good friends, Jamie and Gavin (by the end of the book you feel like you know them and have been on the adventure of a lifetime with them!). They have a bit of an issue. Well, a couple rather LARGE issues. There’s the Elephant in the Room-the fact that they haven’t spoken in 10 years… Maybe make that SEVERAL issues, because Jamie’s father was convicted of murdering Gavin’s father. And then Jamie’s uncle is in trouble and has asked her to come – he knows who REALLY murdered Gavin’s father. Now someone is trying to kill Jamie’s uncle and Gavin and Jamie are in danger themselves! I won’t give any spoilers. This is a marvelous romantic suspense with characters that walk right into your heart. I greatly enjoyed Grave Peril!
*I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
This book was really good, and it does not disappoint. The story is almost like a game of hide and seek, Jamie and Gavin are trying to find her uncle but they are not the only ones an now those same people seem to be after them. So you can imagine the excitement and the twist and turns the author throws it truly is a page turner and you find it hard to put down. It was like you just need too know whats going to happen next. I loved Jamie and her big heart and the healing that Gavin needs and how no matter what happened in the past they both kept fighting. This book was certainly one you will not regret reading.
Mary Alford grabs her reader’s attention from page 1 and doesn’t let go. There’s non-stop action and hold your breath suspense in Grave Peril. It is intense. There are lots of twists and turns. There’s a second-chance romance (with an HEA). I loved the well-developed characters–Jamie, Gavin, and Uncle Paxton. There’s a faith aspect to the book, mostly through the short prayers for deliverance. I highly recommend this book to suspense readers and to clean romance readers. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this exciting book.
When Jamie’s uncle calls and tells her he knows who framed her father for murder, she immediately returns home. But someone thwarts her efforts before she can reach the man with the answers. To make matters worse, the man who rescues her is the same man who broker her heart—the one she once loved.
As Jamie and Gavin search for her uncle, they must stay ahead of the other mean looking for him. Who is involved in the man hunt and who can they trust?
Mary Alford keeps the pace fast and the energy high with close calls, doubt about the locals, and a mystery that needs to be solved before Jamie and Gavin can move forward. The fact that Gavin is not at his full capabilities through most of the story increases the intensity (and with cave-ins, explosions, and gunshots, that is already sky-high)

Grave Peril was a non-stop action, twist and turn, who-can-you-trust, second chance at love story! I think that about sums it up! The situation that these two characters, Jamie and Gavin, were in was dire. They were constantly in danger and trying to stay alive, while attempting to locate Jamie’s missing uncle.
There was great tension between Jamie and Gavin. They both loved each other and had been high school sweethearts. Yet, Jamie’s father was convicted of killing Gavin’s father. Jamie’s belief in her father’s innocence and Gavin’s surety of his guilt added layers of complications for these two.
The author did a great job of creating a scenario where it was hard to tell who the characters could trust and exactly who wanted them dead.

‘Fear slickered into the pit of her stomach. She was on her own.’
Jamie Hendricks is back in her home town because her uncle has called her and said he finally has proof that her father never killed his best friend. Her father, who was wrongly accused and died in prison. But when she is nearly to her uncle’s home, she is ran off the road and nearly killed. Enter her old flame Gavin Dalton, now a CIA operative home for his grandmother’s funeral. From this moment forward, this book careens wildly with non-stop action! A fast paced ride of suspense indeed. Mary Alford has done it again. Highly recommended for fans of inspirational suspense.
*My thanks to the author for a providing an early copy of this book. The opinion stated above is entirely my own.
this is a page turner of a story, he thinks her father killed his. she is called back to town by her uncle use says he found prof that someone else killed the man. there is more killing and attempts , also mine collapses . If you like suspense and second chances you will like the story I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review.
A book that had everything I loved—suspense, mystery, romance, and wonderful characters. It was one book I couldn’t put down.
This is my first Mary Alford book. I enjoyed the characters and the action in the story line. I will be looking for more books by this author.
2.5/5
This romantic suspense story involving a second-chance couple would have been OK with some tightening up and tweaking, but it was just too choppy. I found myself not caring overly much about any of the characters but rather wanting to either roll my eyes at some of the unbelievability in the plot or simply shake said characters for making the choices they did. Some of the action was also overly repetitive. Needed work overall.
