My dearest daughter, I will never forget the day I nearly lost you. The day you learned the secrets that would tear our lives apart… recovery is matched only by her fury at the driver of the car – her ex-husband’s new girlfriend Ella. Jen has never trusted Ella, and now her worst fears have been confirmed.
But then Gracie begins to tell strange stories about what she heard in the car that day, and what she saw in those moments near death. It’s clear that there’s something shocking hidden in Ella’s past… but exposing it could tear all their lives apart.
An emotional page-turner that will take your breath away. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Lisa Wingate and Kerry Fisher.

‘Wow! A big huge emotional and overwhelming WOW!… A heart-breaking and thought-provoking tale of a mother’s overwhelming and all-encompassing love for her daughter. I honestly thought I knew where this story was going but a couple of twists had me fooled and then there’s a huge, clever reveal that absolutely floored me. It’s a rare and beautiful thing to be moved to tears by a story that also makes you reflect long after the book is finished… Loved it.’ 5 stars, Off on a Tangent

The writing was gorgeous and so beautifully felt. I had to put the book aside to go hug my daughter several times while reading. More hugs are always a good thing, right?
This book definitely has unexpected twists and turns. Liked the storyline. Will look for more books by this author.
Gracie’s Secret is a spellbinding tale that will render you useless from start to finish, from the very first page I found myself completely taken with it’s words and characters! This is one of those stories that twist your thoughts in uncomfortable directions, push boundaries, and put a tight squeeze your heart. Very impressive first read on all fronts, the words were absorbing, and the characters superbly drawn, highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Odd
Over protective mother in most instances but lax in others. The third person for most of the writing was also different. It was just odd not highly recommended.
This was a very good book with some real surprises
Had to keep reading to see where it went.
This not the type of book that I enjoy. I don’t enjoy reading about deranged people. The book was well written, but not what I like at all.
From the reviews, I was expecting an exciting, gripping page-turner. It wasn’t.
It was a sad story, told from a different point of view. But it was easy to see the plot “twists” chapters in advance. This isn’t my usual genre, so I was hoping for something new. The only thing novel or new in it was the last chapter. And that has been done before, too.
Plot reveal:
The whole thing felt like a formula:
Girl meets boy – check.
Girl falls in love – check.
Drama: Boy tricks girl – check.
Plot twist: Good ending or sad ending? check
Trite: Check
This book is extremely good but, for me, it was emotionally devastating! I could not finish the entire book because I did not have enough tears to complete. Jill Childs definitely knows how to pull your heart strings. The empathy she has for her characters shines through with every word you read. Best to have a box of tissues beside you when you read this book.
Too complicated. Goes from present to past , from person to person.
Loved the surprise ending!
The ending was very unexpected. It was a tear jerker
My first thought is “wow”.
It’s a beautiful story of a mother’s love and devotion to her child. A story of a marriage gone awry and the feeling a mother gets of being needed, wanted, for just being a woman. It’s about resentment to the “other woman” and your ex for finding happiness again.
It’s a story of tragedy, layers deep, affecting so many. It’s loss and love, hope and hopelessness. It’s a story of miracles and belief.
This is the first I’ve read by this author and I wasn’t expecting the gut wrenching and anxiety provoking feelings. My heart hurt and I found myself gasping and tearing up (yes tissues are needed). The epilogue, although painful, did provide peace.
The narrator did a wonderful job telling a mother’s story. She emoted everything that the words conveyed.
It was heartbreakingly beautiful.
silly
Plot was great, but at times it was boring due to all the repetitive comments about Gracie.
I Was Warned! The information on the book said it was heartbreaking, but I tried anyway. The cover made it very inviting . After about 4 chapters, I put the book away and did not plan to finish it. Rethinking my decision a few days later, I read the rest of the book. The author is a good writer, but I was very disappointed in the twists and turns of the book. A different story from this author might be great, but I am not sure if I will give this author another try.
Did not like it.
Very believable. Wonderful characters.
The ending was very sad. I didn’t like the ending, the rest of the book was good.
This book kept me interested throughout. I recommend it!
Very slow, no surprise at how it ended
