Twelve-year-old Grace and her feline best friend, Midnight, have a secret: Midnight is a ghost. But then again, so are the rest of Graces’ friends.Since she’s the only person in hundreds of years with the ability to see them, the many ghosts of Tansy have flocked to Grace since birth. She doesn’t mind. She prefers the company of the dead to that of the cliquey kids at school. Grace is happy with … happy with her strange life, until one day, the ghosts tell her about the secret her town has hidden for centuries. There’s a reason there are more ghosts than living people in Tansy. Three-hundred years ago, a lonely witch cast a spell that mistakenly trapped the soul of every person to ever set foot in the tiny town. So when the spirits beg her to find a way to break the curse, Grace is eager to help.
As she searches for answers, Grace makes discoveries about the secret her family hid for generations and a world of magic hidden in her own backyard.
Grace soon realizes that if she succeeds in breaking the curse, she’ll lose Midnight and all of her ghost friends, but if she fails, everyone living in Tansy will face the same fate. Can Grace break the curse before it’s too late?

Good for fans of witches and ghosts, suitable for all ages.
What a lovely book. I have the audiobook and I Loved this story. I am over 50.
l really did enjoy this beautifully told ghost young adult book, actually any age could read it as it is a clean and entertaining story. Recommended
This is a story about a twelve-year-old girl Grace, whose only friends are the spooky sweet ghosts including her cat, Midnight.
She starts enjoying the company of the ghosts till one day she finds out the reason why there are so many ghosts around her. There is a spell which was cast on these people three hundred years ago, which turned them into ghosts. Grace realizes that she has magical abilities and she is the one who is destined to break this spell. But breaking it comes with its own consequences, she will lose everyone who is near and dear to her, including Midnight.
Will Grace succeed in her effort forms the plot of the story. It is a sweet and a spooky story, especially meant for teens and middle grade students. When I read this book, I was reminded of this movie Casper, which is about a sweet little ghost which befriends a girl in the castle. This book is similar to the movie. It brings forth the emotions of Grace, her courage, determination and her turmoil all described really well. There are all types of ghosts, some friendly, some grumpy, and each character is unique. It is a fast paced, fun read with a spooky element in it. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Grace’s Ghosts was an excellent fast read. I sat down with this book and completely finished it within 1.5 hours. While this book is targeted towards young teenagers (middle school), as an adult, I loved this book too! Grace’s character building was excellent. You immediately feel connected to her and feel her emotions as they occur, as if they were your own. This story has many twists that leave you shocked until the very end. I would love to follow Grace on another adventure soon!
I really enjoyed reading Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson Peterson. A young girl named Grace has a best friend Midnight, who happens to be a ghost. All of Grace’s friends are ghosts but she really doesn’t mind, anything is better than the kids at school. Grace finds out that her town, Tansy, is under a curse. If Grace figures out how to break the curse she could risk losing Midnight and all of her friends. I loved this book because I feel that it could speak to a lot of kids around Grace’s age. Many kids have a hard time fitting in and Grace shows how to embrace being different. All the characters were really likable, especially Grace, the story line was well developed, and as an adult I was kept interested throughout the whole story.
Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson Peterson is a fast paced paranormal story for older kids about 10 – 12ish but having said that I enjoyed it. Stephenie has given us an original story where there are magic, ghosts, secrets and curses and a best friend who is a cat. It is fun, witty and spooky and thoroughly enjoyable, as we take a twisty journey along with Grace as she works with her ghostly cohorts to get to the root of the problem in town.
Grace’s Ghosts
By Stephenie Wilson Peterson
This is a great Chapter book for middle school students and adults. This was a fun book to read. It has it all, ghosts, wild imagination starter, potions, spells and a 12 year old who can see ghosts. But I know that kids will love this story starting on page one. In walks Grace. Does she really see ghosts? Give this story an audience.
Stephenie Wilson Peterson has hit the nail on the head with this one. Kids who can read chapter books, will want to read this book. Those who do not read well, would love it if you read it to them. I love Grace and her self connection with the characters searching through this story. All I can say is What A Fun Fantastic story for all to enjoy! Nice job Stephenie Wilson Peterson!
I give Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson Peterson, 5 stars.
This book was fantastic! Yes, the main character is twelve, so this is technically for older children, but really it’s great for all ages. Grace is entertaining and real. Children can relate to her problems and adults can remember not really fitting in as a child. The secondary characters are all fantastic too. Being a cat lover, Midnight is of course my favorite.
The story itself is interesting too. Grace learns more about herself as well as trying to figure of the puzzle of the trapped ghosts. I have read many paranormal books, and I cannot say I have read something like this before. I could not put it down until I was done (and I am many, many times older than 12). I was so intrigued and I hope there will be more books with these characters in the future.
Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson was my first experience reading anything by the author and I was really happy that I found her when I had finished this novel. I read it hoping this would be something I could also share with my twelve year old and was so excited when it read like a cute and sweet young adult read with a wee bit of suspense thrown in to entice the older children crowd. While this is a young adult novel or categorized as a children’s book I really enjoyed reading this as an adult and would love to find out what else is available from the author.
The story follows Grace, a young girl who sees ghosts and is perplexed by the vast amount that her town in particular has. She is determined to find out what is wrong and to help the spirits that she interacts with. I really enjoyed the mysterious and adorable ghost cat that seems to be her sidekick too. I think this is a fun story to share with my kids and look forward to finding her other novels soon!
4 Stars
Grace’s Ghosts is a fabulous middle school age children’s paranormal fantasy by Stephenie Wilson Peterson. It is a well woven tale of friendship, ghosts, an old curse, secrets, magic, mystery, and adventure.
Ghosts are drawn to Grace, and ever since she was born they’ve sought her out, so having them around is nothing new to her. In fact, she gets on better with ghosts than she does the living. She’s a bit of a misfit with the other children her age, so all her good friends are ghosts. Her best friend is her cat, Midnight- and you guessed it, Midnight is also a ghost. Grace learns of a curse placed on her town by a witch hundreds of years ago. This curse keeps the souls of everyone, trapped, in the town. The ghosts desperately need Grace’s help to lift the curse- and so the adventure begins. Grace uncovers startling secrets and uncovers much more than she could ever have imagined. It is race against time to find a way to free the ghostly souls, before it’s too late. But considering all her friends are ghosts- where will that leave Grace if the curse is broken?
Grace is a really sweet and caring young lady. I really liked her- and I thought Midnight was a really cute addition to the story.
A great read!
Thank you, Stephenie Wilson Peterson.
This was such a good book. I live for the spooky! Grace is a young kid who just doesn’t seem to want to do the course of putting up with the kids at school, so she has ghost friends. Was a good read for the length, and was very easy to read because it flowed so well. I will be looking into more books from this author.
Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson Peterson
5-Stars
Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson Peterson was an easy 5-star read. Grace was a magnificent character who had unique abilities. I loved following along as this young girl discovered herself, her family secret, and a way to end a curse. She changed so much from the start if the story and strengthened bonds as time went on. This book was magical and difficult to put down. This author amazed me with this book and I can’t wait to read more from her in the future. I recommend this book.
Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Peterson is a sweet, fun story that will appeal to the younger reader. It is quite a fast paced read so it is easy for anyone to get into the story.
Stephenie Peterson is a new author to me and I definitely enjoyed her writing style. Although my daughter is too young to understand books like this I enjoyed reading it to her anyway. Grace was such a lovely character she was an absolute joy to read about. I loved the other characters as well – with all the ghosts there were definitely a wide range of different ones.
The style of writing certainly draws you in to the story and keeps you reading the book. I enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to reading it again with my daughter when she is a bit older.

Grace’s Ghosts by Stephanie Wilson Peterson is a delightful read. Grace is different from the other kids. Grace’s best friends are ghosts. Now they tell her she is the only one who can break the curse on the town. Will Grace be able to help the ghosts and save the town? Great read for 5th graders and up.
Grace’s Ghosts is a book suitable for children as young as 9 to 12 years of age. I am not ashamed to say, at 31 years of age, I loved it.
From the very first page I was intrigued and drawn into the storyline. I can honestly way, I don’t recall reading a story like this in the past. It was fast paced, exciting and unique. I feel as though Grace was a character kids could relate to or feel empathy towards. I can’t say enough about Grace’s Ghosts but I will stop here as to not spoil anything. Regardless of age, if you’re looking for a short, fun read, I recommend this 5 star book.
I was unprepared for how immediately I was pulled into this story. The author does a beautiful job creating a story that truly speaks to all ages and does a fantastic job keeping your interest and attention. Loved every page and am an immediate fan of this author. Looking forward to more!
Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson Peterson is a very well spun story. Some books you read for the history, some you read for love, and some you read just cause you like a good story. This book is that good story. I could totally identify with Grace, because I have been that odd man out. Eccentricity is rarely loved by the rest of the world. This is a great story for young people but adults will love it too. I know I did! I hope we see Grace and her friends in another story, these characters are way to good to only travel with once.
Grace’s Ghosts is the first book I’ve read by Stephanie Wilson Peterson. This was the best children’s book I’ve read in a very long time. Honestly- it was full of emotion and great plots with amazing characters. I read this in a few hours because I couldn’t put it down! This story follows Grace who’s able to see ghosts, and have conversations with them. You get to meet her family and the people that go to her school. Every one who’s important is so deeply created, I either loved or despised them – whichever emotion Stephanie wanted me to feel. I hope there’s more of Grace’s story because I can’t wait for more!
12 year old Grace can see ghosts, lots of them along with her best friend, a cat named Midnight. After hundreds of years, she’s the only person with this secret ability to view ghosts in Tansy, her hometown. She loves her ability, the ghosts she’s befriended and would prefer their company to those of the cliques at school.
The ghosts soon unveil to Grace a hidden centuries old secret that the town is cursed unless Grace can do something to change it. 300 years ago, a witch cursed every person to set foot in her town, made them ghosts and Grace is down for the cause. Grace soon unveils the truth her family hid for generations and a world a magic that surrounds her.
Will time repeat itself with the curse happening to a new generation or will Grace lose all her ghost friends to break the curse?
I love the beautiful backstory of the ghosts, the curse and I fell in love with Grace from the beginning. She’s so sweet and her personality is adorable. Great read!
Grace has been different her entire life. She has zero alive friends and doesn’t seem to fit in her family. She has always been able to see and talk to Ghosts and her town is FULL of them. She discovers the town is cursed and if she wants to save her ghostly friends, she’ll need to figure out how to break it. This was a cute YA novel that hits home with not fitting in, being different, and learning to love who you are.
This is a great adventure about a young girl called Grace. Grace is an outcast in her little village. She has friends but they aren’t alive.
All her friends are ghosts. Grace is the only one able to see them so when they come to her asking for help to lift a curse which stops them going into the light she has no choice but to help.
Along the way she learns new things about herself and her family, but the main question is can she solve how to break the curse before her ghost friends die a complete death.
