I really enjoyed this book so much, it was about a heavy subject but it kept my attention throughout the book. I stayed up at night to read it also, it was that good. This author is an excellent writer. This book is christian, sweet and clean, and that is great, I love that.
I loved the writing style of the book. It was simple, filled with a lot of truths that kept me hooked till the end. It explained salvation and bringing others to Christ in a very simple but effective and straight forward fashion. It is unlike any book I have read because I saw Biblical principles explained and made the focus of the story. The main character Esther McDowell was a pastor’s daughter, born and brought up in church but when she fell ill with cancer the fact that it is not enough to grow up as a preachers kid but one has to know God for themselves and have a personal and consistent relationship with God. The book with a beautiful story of faith showed that walking with Jesus is not a bed of roses, there will be persecution along the way but God promised to be there. I loved how Christine illustrated by a beautiful story telling the essence of reading and studying the Bible for oneself not just living on what we hear people tell us about God but searching and finding Him in scriptures for ourselves. Esther had a beautiful relationship or she thought with Nick her fiancé, until problems came and things fell apart. I loved her relationship with her parents Pastor William McDowell and her mum Blanche McDowell, they were very important to her but when it came to choose between the truth and keeping quiet she chose well. One of the beautiful supporting characters that stole my heart was Joy, an asian woman who questioned Esther’s faith in God, that was when the seeds of a transformation was planted in Esther’s heart. The way Joy used stories in the Bible to explain and bring answers to questions and life situations was breathtaking, effective and it hit its mark. I love Esther’s zeal and zest to share her new life with Christ to everyone she met, with other cancer patients she met during her treatments, also with the staffs of the hospital were she was receiving her treatments.
I’d recommend this book to anyone who loves and enjoy wholesome Bible stories and wants to learn how to walk with God during lives difficult and dark moments.
This was a beautiful story and it will have you crying! Based in Australia. 28 year old, Esther, is diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. This story takes you on a journey of lost loves, family conflicts, faith discovery, and friendships. It will bring you hope, but it will also leave you feeling frustrated over some of circumstances that arise! I definitely recommend this!
“Sometimes God’s grace wears a strange disguise.”
This book was my introduction to Christine Dillon’s writing and I’m glad that I read the book. I’ve heard good things from others about this particular book and was intrigued by the premise and title. Indeed, the quote from above is so true and the main character Esther slowly recognizes all of God’s grace and mercy showered upon her as the scales are peeled away from her eyes and heart. Esther is a physical therapist diagnosed with breast cancer at such a young age and she struggles as the daughter of a prominent prosperity-gospel preacher who has always believed that only good things will come because they’ve been faithful. The author holds nothing back in the stark and blunt world of cancer diagnosis and treatment as Esther plows through with only her mother and one friend for support. Esther gives the reader much to ponder as she matures as a Christian; her honest and thoughtful outlook on this broken world that harbors spiritually and physically broken people points out how we, the followers of Christ, can and should respond in all circumstances.
I was given a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
This is a very well book that holds your attention from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book. It deals with real life issues and is a very encouraging read. I loved how the message of Jesus was woven into this book. Christine Dillon is a new-to-me author and I can’t wait to read more books by her. I received this book as a gift and I loved it
This book was so realistic I had to look it up on Amazon to verify that it’s a novel. The problems the protagonist faced weren’t sugar-coated. Despite my efforts not to get hooked on a series. I’ll definitely be reading more of this series. Incidentally, the fact that I’m a man, the fact that this is women’s fiction wasn’t the least objectionable. The Christian elements are strong, and the use of storying to tell biblical truths was quite effective. A definite mus-read.
