I haven’t seen Finley Lawson in five years.
The day I walked away from him—or ran, rather—was the hardest day of my life.
My only regret is losing touch with him.
I loved him and he loved me.
And then I threw it all away.
I thought the past was in the past until I walked into a bar in New Orleans on New Year’s Eve and smackdab into the boy I used to love, who is now a man.
Like, a really hot man.
And I realize, every feeling I ever felt for him is still alive and well.

How do I put this… almost nothing happens in this story. It involves two characters who are nice but have very little personality and zero chemistry, in an uneventful plot with a ton of mundane conversation. I don’t even understand how this is a story.
This could have been a fantastic high-energy story about a jazz musician in New Orleans. But sadly, I think a story with potential took a backseat to a walk down memory lane with the multitude of old characters from other books and other series. When I say the characters are old I mean some of their books go back five years! I’ve read all four French Quarter books and I’ve been introduced to many of these characters before but it still was hard for me to remember them all and their intricate relationships. Let me tell you, it’s not fun to have to search my memory bank for minor characters that are no longer relevant. It really slowed down the pace of the story.
That said, the NOLA world building was great and for those who liked this book (and there were many) I’m glad they got a fun reunion with old friends. You may love revisiting these characters and find it a pleasant surprise, so go for it and decide for yourself.
