A chance encounter leads to an unpredictable Manhattan romance in an irresistible and heartwarming novel from the author of Hello Love.Greta Hansen has arrived in Manhattan to intern with the Vanderhaven Corporation, a company owned by distant and very wealthy relatives. But she soon realizes she’s actually been hired to keep watch on their capricious daughter, social media celebrity Cece. No … media celebrity Cece. No last name required. Why bother? The entire Twitterverse already watches every fabulous move she makes. Including an unfortunate shoplifting mishap when Cece decides to go off script. It’s then that a handsome—and homeless—stranger comes to the rescue.
Dalton Bishop has a secret. A man of privilege, he’s been living on the streets as a social experiment. Now, in gracious payback for his chivalry, Cece invites him to an elegant fund-raiser called the Forgotten Man Ball. It’s Greta he’s taken with, however—and to Greta’s surprise, she’s taken right back. But Dalton has one more secret up his tattered sleeve. For right now, though, he’s just happy embracing the woman of his dreams. It’s only the beginning of a romantic and revealing adventure that will take them to a place where money, class, and fame matter far less than true love.

I love books that reveal the brighter side of human nature in surprising ways. Good Man, Dalton is a sweet confection you’ll savor as Midwesterner Greta Hansen arrives in New York City for a job that doesn’t exist—and discovers something better than money or fame.
I was fortunate to be able to read an advanced copy of this book. From the opening pages I was drawn into Greta’s life as she embarks on a new experience. Dalton is equally as fascinating and likable. This is a sweet love story, but it’s so much more than that. As we get into Cece’s world, the book has important things to make us think about social media, the internet, and the face we show to everyone else out there. This was a fast read, but savor the writing and let it sweep you away. Excellent reading.
I was given an advanced copy to read in exchange for an honest opinion.
There are so many good things to say about this story it is hard to know where to start. The thing that stood out to me is how it capture the next generation. In recent years I have seen the desire of people to make a difference in the lives of those around us. Making a fair wage is important but there is a desire to leave the planet better and to help those in need.
I loved that Dalton struggled with how he could help people. His education did not seem to align with his highly successful family business. Greta is a college aged girl reaching out to her extended family in New York for an internship. Cecelia her cousin is a highly successful business woman running her own company, which is tied to her families very successful business.
Dalton decides to go to New York and be homeless for 2 weeks to get a better understanding of what are the true needs of those struggling. Greta arrives to start her internship with her second cousin only to find that the internet sensation is a well script part she has been playing for years following an accident. When Cece’s hired best friends decide to leave putting Greta in charge, everything does not go according to the script.
This story is great in how they become part of each other’s lives.
This was a very enjoyable book to read.
Greta Hansen needs an internship to set her apart. Lucky for her, she has a distant connection with the fabulous Vanderhaven Corporation all the way in New York city. She arrives to take on her internship and realizes she has really been brought in to help manage her cousin Cece’s image. Can she keep Cece from scandal?
Dalton Bishop is on a mission. Conduct a social experiment to learn what homeless people need. But when he sees Greta, he feels an instant connection. And when he saves Cece from scandal and she invites him to be her date for the Forgotten Man Ball, he gets to see if Greta feels the connection too.
What is life like inside the fishbowl of social media? Why is image so important? Greta finds all this out firsthand, and helps her cousin Cece find her voice and take charge of her own image. A charming tale of destiny and love at first sight. Karen McQuestion writes witty and fun books with heart.
Good Man, Dalton is a great feel-good read!
DELIGHTFUL!
GOOD MAN, DALTON by Karen McQuestion is absolutely delightful! It is a story of family with wealth few people can ever imagine. With that wealth comes both responsibilities and challenges. It also comes with choices of how you want specific members of your family to be portrayed in the public. For the Vanderhaven’s daughter, CeeCee, her public perception is totally opposite of her private views. It takes a visit from her cousin Greta to help her see that there is so much living to be done in the “real world.” A chance encounter with a homeless man changes both of their lives. The homeless man teaches them to look beyond what you see on the outside and look deeply within to see their soul. You never know what kind of good man may hiding there! This book is full of twists and turns and a sweet love story. It is a lesson in taking time to stop and truly listen to people and pay attention to subtle changes in their personalities. I was provided an ARC of this book by Lake Union Publishers and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
Love, love, loved this book! The kindness that was shown by some of the characters is just what we need in books right now. The social media exploits that happened in this book are right out of the daily life our young adults are living right now. I loved the characters and was really happy with the way the book ended. You go Good Man, Dalton. Give me a new Karen McQuestion book and I’ll buy it every time #favoriteauthor
I usually shy away from romantic stories, as they tend to be too predictable.
But, given how much I have enjoyed Dovetail and The Moonlight Child by this author, I thought I would enjoy a break from heavier subjects.
This was a sweet book. You know how it will turn out, but it was interesting to see how they got there.
The characters were likeable, with a few minor exceptions.
Greta goes to New York from Wisconsin to intern for wealthy relatives, working with her social media star, Cece.
Soon after her arrival, Cece’s team quits, leaving Greta in charge.
At the same time, we meet Dalton, a well-to-do man pretending to be homeless.
Greta and Dalton meet on a couple of occasions, and feel an immediate attraction.
It was fun to watch the main character as she becomes more confident, both in her job and her personal life.
The writing is good, the ending is plausible and sweet. A perfect summer read.
Another enjoyable read from Ms McQuestion! Great story with fun characters. I appreciate the tie in of homeless vets with PTSD. While this isn’t an in-depth look at the homeless it does give some food for thought. I’m looking forward to the second book in this series, Missing Her More.
Loved this story. The book reads like a tapestry of characters woven together into an inspirational story of family and personal values.
A truly delightful “Feel Good” read. The ending is sweet and poignant. The characters well drawn, and the story moves at a pleasant pace.
Good Man, Dalton is my introduction to the writing of Karen McQuestion. I will be looking for more books from this author. I loved this book it was an easy delightful read. I was hooked right from the first page. There were very likeable characters, vivid descriptions of the scenery. This is a heartwarming story. This book touches on the subject of homelessness that is so sadly a part of this country. Good Man, Dalton is a sweet and clean romance and I recommend it for people that love feel good stories with HEA endings.
So so cute! Very well written and different story than most out there. I found it original and realistic, but with that touch that allows you to escape reality.
I received an ARC edition of Good Man, Dalton from Karen McQuestion in exchange for an honest review. So, thank you Karen and I appreciate you thinking of me:)
Another great book by Karen McQuestion!
Parallel stories of two strangers, a young woman from the mid-west interning in New York City with her celebrity cousin and a young man who wants to experience living on the streets as a homeless man.
If rom-coms are your thing, then I’d recommend this sweet, heartwarming, and eye-opening story about living a high profile lifestyle and then down to the struggles of living without a roof over your head.
Is it fate, destiny, or by chance that these two meet in a city with over a million people. This #meetcute story is more than just a light-romance story. I like that this story reminds people to look past the outer image of what they see. To get to know and understand, rich or poor, who a person really is.
Like I said, another great story from Karen McQuestion:) Full review on my book blog, PlumReport
I loved everything about this book. The characters were wonderfully developed. The scenery made you feel you were actually there. The ups and downs. I loved that this author told how people can end up homeless. It’s not that people want to be there. It’s they almost always have no choice and there are way to many of our veterans out there struggling with things we can’t imagine.
Two cousins who had never met became fast best friends. Greta from a farm town and Cece from NY. Greta had a loving caring homelife with a mother who adored her. Cece was from a rich family but very lacking in the loving caring department. Both had envied the other’s lives for years via Christmas cards each family received.
Cece was treated like she had no mind of her own. She had a beautiful rich life but was very lonely. Even her best friends didn’t really care what she wanted. It was a job and they had to make sure things were done a certain way. Cece’s parents were not around much at all. Her little sister, Brenna, and the Nanny, were basically her family. She longed to be let in and allowed to live a real life. Until Greta arrived it was impossible.
Greta was shy and didn’t have much confidence in herself until she got the internship at her cousin Cece’s. She had a wonderful loving homelife but not a lot of experience in big city life at all. She had always wanted to meet her cousin and with a job awaiting her she was able to meet and become fast best friends with her. Together they go on an adventure that changes both their lives. They meet Dalton, the “homeless” man that they invite to a formal event. Dalton and Greta had made eye contact earlier and he felt a connection to her. The three of them have a wonderful night with a few hiccups along the way, but it was a night to change so many lives. Cece’s to be able to make decisions on her own. Greta to fall in love and also to be a real friend to Cece, not just a paid employee. Dalton to help so many who were alone with no help and no place to live.
This book touches on a subject that is so sadly a part of this country. To many people are without a home, food, medical help or caring friends. There is only so much a shelter can do. But with the right kind of help I believe there could be such a big difference made. With the type of medical and emotional care they can get back confidence they need to move forward. This was such a touching story. I could feel the sadness in the characters. I could feel the happiness and love also. You feel like you are there with them during their outing. The biggest adventure of both Cece and Greta’s lives. You want to be there. To feel the freedom they feel.
This was a very good book. It will touch your heart in ways you may not expect.
I love this author’s work and will be reading more of it. Another bit 5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lake Union and Karen McQuestion for the honor of having an ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. It was wonderful.
Have you ever wanted to see how the other half lives?
Greta Hansen followed her famous cousin Cece on social media thinking how wonderful & glamorous Cece’s life was. Lucky Greta goes to NY to be an intern with Cece’s family for the summer, but things dont always turn out the way we think they should.
Dalton Bishop lives a privileged life – albeit not to the same extent as Cece. His father wants Dalton to work in the family business, but he has other oplans. Dalton walks away from his life to live as a homeless person.
Two strangers meet by chance. Two strangers recognize something special in each other. This is their story.
Thank you to Karen McQuestion & Lakr Union Publishing for the ARC that I received for an honest review.

I loved this book! It was like comfort food. It made me feel good all over. There were so many surprises as the book progressed. Again and again I thought, wow, that’s not what I expected at all! The characters felt real and I enjoyed Dalton so much. He WAS a good man! This is the first book I have read by Karen McQuestion, but I plan to read more for sure! I highly recommend this wonderful feel-good book! When a book makes me happy I give it 5 sparkly stars!
Good Man Dalton is the latest novel by Karen McQuestion. College senior Greta Hansen is advised to find a summer internship to make her competitive in the tight market for business majors. Her mother’s cousin happens to be married to wealthy businessman Harry Vanderhaven, making her second cousin to media sensation Cece Vanderhaven, owner and designer at First Daughter, Inc.
Greta is offered an internship with the Vanderhavens for the summer, as well as lodging with the Vanderhaven family in their luxury Manhattan penthouse. When she arrives she is greeted by her mom’s cousin Deborah and learns her internship will be with First Daughter, Inc. and that Deborah and Harry are leaving for Europe early the next day. She is also told that Cece’s right hand gal, Katrina, will present her with the nondisclosure statement, contract, and duties the next day.
Meanwhile, Dalton Bishop, black sheep son of the industrialist head of the Bishop Corporation, sets forth on his two week homeless experiment. Dalton’s degree in philosophy and masters in social psychology does not impress his father any more than his proposal for a new direction for the Bishop Foundation did. He will complete this experiment to improve his proposal to help the homeless.
When Greta discovers the truth behind the Cece facade and her media “best friends” Katrina and Vance take off in the night leaving Greta in charge, the story takes a very different turn. Then, when the paths of Greta and Dalton cross, there is quite another twist.
This is an interesting read with a dramatic New York City setting, and a meaningful underlying story of the tragic homeless veteran situation. It juxtaposes wealthy and homeless, naive and worldly, weak and strong. The characters are well developed, quirky, and likable. And the ending begs for a sequel. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!
Laugh Out Loud Yet Thought Provoking. This book can be read as a straight fish out of water romantic comedy, and it works well in that regard (and the back half of it is mostly just this). But where its true power lies is in the questions it provokes in the separate paths our leads take to meeting each other by chance halfway through the book. Greta’s front half is an examination of the reality of social media and reality TV, particularly for those who are hyper=focused about monetizing it. The titular Dalton’s front half poses some intriguing looks at the realities of homelessness, specifically as it relates to New York City but even, it seems, as a more general concern. Overall a truly exceptional work that can be read in multiple ways and still work well no matter what your particular focus is on. Very much looking forward to future work from this author.
