Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody (nobody!) can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs. Blake Riley sees the wedding … the wedding as fate’s gift to him. Jess is the maid of honor and he’s the best man? Let the games begin. So what if he’s facing a little (fine, a lot) of resistance? He just needs to convince the stubborn blonde that he’s really a good boy with a bad rap. Luckily, every professional hockey player knows that you’ve got to make an effort if you want to score.
But Jess has more pressing issues to deal with than sexy-times with a giant man-child. Such as: Will the ceremony start on time, even though someone got grandma drunk? Does glitter ever belong at a wedding? And is it wrong to murder the best man?
Warning: Do not read while sipping hot liquids. Or cold ones. Or while sitting anywhere laughter would be inappropriate. Contains hot but hilarious hockey players, puppies and a snarky pair of underwear.

Good Boy is the first book of the WAG series by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. It’s is a spin off from the Him series and focuses on Blake Riley and Jess Canning. They were introduced in Him as a teaser for what’s to come.
Blake is the gorgeous NHL star that’s fun, happy and loved by all. To the outside world, he’s always joking and let’s everything negative roll off his back. When in reality, he’s masking the pain from past hurts and betrayal. He’s drawn to Jess. Jess is the gorgeous friend who steers clear of Blake whenever she can. She too has her own baggage and insecurities. The authors take us through the building of the relationship to the realization of more while simultaneously addressing their personal challenges.
Good Boy started out slow for me, but in looking at the big picture, it set the stage for the full story with depth and dimension. And there’s a ton of humor but it’s the Dumb and Dumber or Hangover kind of humor – funny to some and not so much for others. I fall somewhere in between so it’s an immature perspective to me at times. However, once the friendship turns into more and we get to see the real Blake underneath, I fell in love with him and his humor.
All in all, once I got through the beginning, it was an enjoyable and entertaining read. Eriksson is next up in the series and with the teasers already provided, appears to have a great story to tell.
I ADORE BLAKEY!! He is sweet and kind and caring! Literally alllll heart.
Jess is a bit much to handle as she has low self esteem throughout 99.8 percent of this book. The last hour when Blake makes their relationship official she starts picking herself up more.
The narrators on this are Teddy Hamilton—LOVE HIM HARD! He is a wonderful narrator.
And Tanya Eby—this woman is equally amazing. She is soo good at playing humorous characters to serious characters and love her sweet voice!
Loved Loved Loved Blake and Jess!!!!!
Awhhh…. I loved Blake & Jesses’ story!
It was amazing to get cameos of our favorite guys, Wes & Jaime, while falling in love with Blake & Jess.
I thoroughly enjoyed how they bickered and yet were so perfect for each other.
Blake is such a sweetheart
I really did not like the first chapter of the audiobook. I actually put it aside and went back to listen to “Him”. HIm is book one of Jess’ brother Jamie and Wes’ relationship.
I was going to read the ebook, because the female narration was really not endearing me to the book. There was something about her character and the way she portrayed Blake that made him seem like a shallow, goofy idiot. It just felt very off putting to me.
Anyway, after I read both Him and Us, I came back to this audiobook. I have to say that it got much better. Blake was a really good guy and Jess started to recognize that. Jess also had Blake’s back. One of the best scenes was when Jess confronted Molly.
This turned out to be a fun, sexy, slightly sillly, lighthearted romance. Blake and Jess got their HEA after Blake wore down her initial resistance. 4.5 stars.
Jess Canning, is the little sister to Jamie Canning, who has decided that her next career is going to be party planning and what better event to plan than the #Wesmie wedding? Except that 1) she realizes that she hates party planning and 2) this will put her right smack in front of Blake Riley – one of Wes’s teammates that she hooked up with when she was supposed to be taking care of a sick Jamie. Oops. Que the awkward and hilarious shenanigans from Blake. After taking care of Jamie and realizing that she hates party planning Jess decides that she wants to go back to school to become a nurse. The only school that offers her a scholarship is in non-other than Toronto, so now she is right back with Blake after avoiding him for six weeks after the wedding. But now that Blake has her near he isn’t going to let her walk away because they fit and would make a perfect friends with benefits relationship. But we all know what happens with those arrangements.
Blake is downright hilarious. He had me laughing so much in this book with his quirky sayings and how he was always pushing Jamie’s buttons. Such a riot. To top it off he is one of the most amazingly loyal, generous, accepting and generous people ever. I mean he donates so much money and time to puppies, how can you not love him? And then when he realized that he was catching feelings for Jamie and that he just deemed them in a relationship was so freaking cute and endearing and so typically Blake. Jamie was fun and I think she is a good person who is too hard on herself. Sometimes it takes people a bit longer to find her calling in life. She needed to stop beating herself up because if people didn’t want to help her they wouldn’t. While I think she was the perfect balance and perfect girl for Blake I am kind of indifferent to her. Overall I loved this book and was so glad that I read this one. It gave me a lot of laughs that I really needed at the time. If you love #wesmie you will love this one too.
4:5 Stars
I thought I loved Blake when I first met him in Him but now I LOVE him even more. He comes off as the ultimate fun times guy, and yes had me laughing so much. I adored all his “Blake-isms”. But underneath it all he was a man with a huge heart and a lot more depth to his character. His chemistry with Jess was hot. They were great together. And of course I was over the moon about getting Wes and Jamie’s wedding at the beginning. it was so perfect for them. And what Blake did to make it more perfect for Wes, that’s when I fell for him.
Favorite Blake quotes
“Wesmie” (Wes and Jamie’s couple name)
“ TTYTOTNDOW” – (Talk to you tomorrow or the next day or whenever)
“OOPF” ( occasional orgasm producing friend )
Super fun and super sexy!
Yes, Blake Riley is big sexy goofball, but that guy has a heart of gold and will do anything for anybody. Class A boyfriend material right there. And J-babe? Sweet, smart, and a little insecure about her place in the grand scheme of things. I loved the slow burn turning to combustion of this couple! I loved both their families, I loved the life and love they made for themselves. Loved everything about this book!
“Cheezus! Samesies! J-Babe!” These are a few of the most used words in Blake Riley’s vocabulary and I loved them all. Once I started Good Boy I could not put it down. And I definitely had a feeling that this was going to be the case because I love both Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen’s writing style. It had the perfect amount of humor, witty dialogue and of course sweetness.
If there were a perfect book boyfriend Blake Riley would be right there with the best of them. I will admit that when I first started reading the book I was thinking “Whoa! Blake is a little much to take on,” but he grew on me and by the end of the book I absolutely loved him. I loved how much he saw in Jess. Not just that she was sexy, but also that she was caring and compassionate too. Jess doesn’t always believe so strongly in herself when the book began, but Blake was so good for her. He saw so much positive in her that she had no choice to believe it in herself and that definitely had me swooning.
I’m so excited to read more of the WAG series!
Love the characters!
Blake is the most wonderful, ridiculous, exuberant book boyfriend you’ll ever find. These two are adorable together, and Blake’s earnestness and loyalty makes for a great read.
Great book! Loved this book so much that I ordered more from this author!
Sarina Bowen always brings the fun to romance and this book is no exception. Jessica, a multi career 20 something is still trying to find herself, while Blake Reilly is a self-confident hot hockey player who thinks Jessica would make a good girlfriend. There’s a lot of fun entertaining situations, some steamy sex and a happily ever after in the story. There’s nothing surprising here but there’s a lot of fun and it’s a well written book. I recommend it as a fun weekend read.
Lots of fun and hard to put down, very well done
Really enjoyed the hero. He was hilarious.
I didn’t like it. I couldn’t get into it and about 1/4 of the way through, gave up.
4.5’s
I wasn’t sure what to expect going in. I have a book buddy that told me I HAD to read it so I did. And I wasn’t disappointed! I love sports romances and hockey is my fav too.
I decided to read / listen to this one, and I feel it made it so much better. Teddy Hamilton just does it for me! I thought Blake would grate on me with his jock talk but it had me giggling at times, just like Jess. Blake is that stand up guy, the one who would do anything for his friends and family. He would even make himself look like a douche to keep his family happy. He has a tender vulnerability side that is so endearing and once he trusts and falls for Jess
Jess feels she is a flake and a big disappointment for her family, but it’s not true. This gal just needed to find her footing and a passion to sink her teeth into. And I don’t mean Blake! She goes to Canada for nursing school and that’s where her friendship / f-buddy status becomes more with Blake. I so loved that she has a back bone and used it to protect Blake.
Doing a little research I see Wes and Jamie have their own book, and another team mate is telling his story. I feel I am going to be busy playing catch up!
I think there was a little more pushing/ignoring between characters than I really like, but overall these were fun characters.
I just loved this story filled with very hot, sexy time but also extremely funny. Blake-y is seriously hilarious. J-Babe is his perfect match. The two of them together are dy-no-mite and their story was just what I needed. Both had insecurities, but they were just formed from past experiences and nothing that was over the top. Just down to earth, everyday issues we all worry about. Blake’s come back’s and jokes were just absolutely hilarious. Loved his nickname for Jessie also, J-Babe. It was also great hearing more from Wes & Jamie.
The narrators were spot on and performed each character wonderfully. Very good audio book and story.
I enjoyed this book ,it was funny and sweet 🙂
I liked Jess, she’s a great character (i can totally relate to feeling like the family screw up ) she jumps from job to job but she finally figures out what she wants to do and she goes for it and i really liked seeing her to that ,i thought it was funny how she kept falling into bed with Blake (even though she said it was a one time thing we both knew she was lying) and they banter with each other non stop and it was so good ,they make a great couple 🙂
Omg Blake is outrageous in the best ways 🙂 he’s so freaking funny and omg he can be so sweet and caring 🙂 i loved that he just tells Jess what he’s thinking ,there are no games between them and it was refreshing to see that 🙂 omg all the dirty take from him was (sigh) so good ,they really heat up the pages 🙂 and i loved how he told Jess that he believes in her and that she is gonna make a great nurse ,he really is such a good guy and he and Jess are lucky that they found each other !
P.s. Molly was a total fricking Bit*h !
I really enjoyed all the sides characters and i loved the world that Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy built 🙂 can’t wait to read more from both of them !
