This book is part of Katie Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Series. Love the entire series. George Holloway is one of my all-time favorite romance heroes.
A great, original hero!
Yummy! What a good story!!! Sex appeal, adventure, mystery, romance, humor all in one book with a good plot!!!! Characters were well developed!
This is #3 in the Search and Rescue series.
It is the story of George Holloway and Ellie Price.
George is a survival expert. He has spent most of his life alone. He lives in and explores the Colorado Rocky Mountains far off the map. He is part of the Search & Rescue brotherhood.
Ellie is a city girl who lives in Chicago. She is delicate and small and works in a women’t clothing boutique. She has come to Colorado to find her missing father, no matter the cost.
“Trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder…”
Ellie has to ask George to be her guide in the treacherous beauty in the Rockies. He is the best there is, and he is the obvious choice to have Ellie follow.
“When she looks up at him with those big, dark eyes, he swears he would tear the world apart to keep her safe.”
Determined to set out as soon as they can, George and Ellie set out through the unforgiving wilderness. They soon find themselves preyed upon by a killer. This killer is out for revenge, and he will do whatever it takes to get it.
I enjoyed this book. It explained some of the things that you would have to do in order to survive a few days out in the mountains. I like the initial spark between Ellie and George that develops slowly into something more. The mystery of why her father disappeared and why they were targets is explained. There is a surprise, cliff-hanging ending. I was glad i had guessed correctly who was behind the revenge. It will be great to read the next one if there is mention of why.
Oh my, George is the sweetest thing ever! Sure, he’s rough and gruff and really doesn’t talk. But once you earn his trust enough that he does talk? Hoo boy. He’s a keeper. If you aren’t already in love with George after his intervention on Rory’s behalf in Fan the Flames, you’ll fall in love with him in this story.
Ellie is a fantastic heroine. At first, it seems like she’s going to be a bit of a city-girl priss. But the girl has grit and determination. It’s not that she doesn’t know she is dressed ridiculously for the environment she’s in, it’s that she doesn’t have the appropriate clothing and gear. She may not have been quite prepared for what she was walking into when she flew to Colorado to help her dad, but once she got the lay of the land she did not hesitate to do what needed doing and get what needed getting.
George and Ellie together are wonderful…even before they even really talk. It’s amazing to look back and realize how much of the beginning of the book George did not really talk. He got his point across and that was what mattered. And somehow, I felt as though I got to know him on a deeper level without all the talk. Ellie was able to find peace in the quiet spaces instead of feeling those spaces needed to be filled. She also seemed to understand George better because of their lack of words.
There’s a lot going on in this book. It’s a continuation of the mystery of the headless corpse found in book one that is somehow tied into a lot of other weird events around town. Katie Ruggle does a great job writing the suspense of the situation. While I want the town to be safe and everyone to figure out who is good and who is not, I also don’t want things to end because I love these characters. And the author really dropped some bombshells in this story!
There were a few things that bothered me, no matter how much I liked this story. One was Lou whose story was told in Hold Your Breath. She was just a bit over the top in this story. I really needed her to take a chill pill. Which leads to my discomfort of how the bit of storyline with Joseph played out. I felt Lou was a bit dismissive of Ellie’s discomfort with Joseph, which led to Ellie somehow downplaying her reactions to him in her head. Which was a very dangerous thing. I really wish she would have told George about the incident, or at least confronted the hotel employee at the front desk. I felt like an opportunity was lost by the author in this situation.
But…it was still an amazing story. I’m really looking forward to the next book. I was so mad at Chris for something that happens in this story. I’m really hoping to get his side of things in the next book. I know there was no ill intent. But he’s such a smart and caring police office, it just seemed out of character for him. So while I want to see Chris get his HEA, I also want to be “Team Chris” again after the bad taste left in my mouth after his part in this story.

Love this whole series and would definitely recommend! Each of these seem to build on the next so make sure to get the entire story.
OMG I LOVED THIS BOOK! Gone Too Deep, the 3rd book in the Search and Rescue series was amazing! I don’t even know were to start on all the awesome things about this book. While this book was easy to read as a standalone Katie Ruggle created such an exciting world that I am not done living it. So I will be going right to Amazon after I finish this review, buying all the other books in this series and starting from the beginning. And although I loved this book so much that I’m sure I will really enjoy the others as well, I doubt any of the other heroes will hold a candle to George.
George, George, George God but that man was a wet dream! George was this super tall, yummy, bearded, all alpha, non-talking, grunting, sexy mountain man. I spent the entire time I was reading this book swooning, awing, and yelling out “God he’s so sexy”. I loved every single thing about George there was nothing I would have changed. Nothing. He was perfect. Oh and he was a virgin. Never been kissed, never nothing. There was such a sweet and sexy innocent vulnerability to him that was so appealing and in no way took away from his manly alphaness(is that a word???). George is for sure being added to the top of my book boyfriend list.
Ellie was very sweet. She had a playfulness that was cute and goofy. I loved that she was smart. I hate stupid heroines that put themselves in danger, but Ellie was anything but. She had common sense but was still vulnerable and needed George. I also loved how loyal she was to her father. She didn’t just dismiss him as crazy even though he had a metal illness. She loved and fought to help her father. It was too funny the way Ellie would interpret George’s grunts and looks. She really got him and around her he was able to just be himself.
Ellie and George’s relationship was sweet and had an intensity that had me hanging on to every grunt and half smile. But them being together felt natural, like they were meant to be. Ellie only had eyes for George and he only had eyes for her. Experiencing all George’s first with Ellie was beautiful. I was like a huge sap melting as he kissed and made love for the first time. His embarrassment, nervousness, growing confidence, and then smug satisfaction was damn sexy. I enjoyed watching George and Ellie fall in love. I enjoyed every single grunt, word, smile, and laugh that Ellie pulled out of George. It was cute the way George would pick her up all the time and carry her around like a little rag doll. I loved Lou, and Callum and Ellie’s friend Chelsea. I also really liked Ellie’s dad. My heart melted at Ellie at her father’s relationship and his metal issues. I loved all the action and that ending. OMG that ending…….. I was jumping up and down yelling OMG no way. Talk about a freakin “drive me crazy” cliffhanger. Thank God the cliffhanger was just about the plot and not the couple or I might have lost it, but now I have to wait to find out what happens next. While I wait I’m going back and reading the other books in this series. I would recommend this book to all my friends that love a little action with their love story, and sexy, alpha mountain men that only have eyes for one woman!
I’ve read it twice already, and I’m looking for the rest of the series.
Gone To Deep is Book #3 in the Search & Rescue Series. These books are best read in order but can be read as stand alone issues.
George Holloway, is a loner but also a member of the Colorado Rockies Search & Rescue Team.
