On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

“Absorbing . . . In masterly fashion, Flynn depicts the unraveling of a marriage—and of a recession-hit Midwest—by interweaving the wife’s diary entries with the husband’s first-person account.”—New Yorker
“Ms. Flynn writes dark suspense novels that anatomize violence without splashing barrels of blood around the pages . . . Ms. Flynn has much more up her sleeve than a simple missing-person case. As Nick and Amy alternately tell their stories, marriage has never looked so menacing, narrators so unreliable.”—The Wall Street Journal
“The story unfolds in precise and riveting prose . . . even while you know you’re being manipulated, searching for the missing pieces is half the thrill of this wickedly absorbing tale.”—O: The Oprah Magazine

This book kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat the whole way through
Resolution is far-fetched and womanisstupid to get separated from her money by grifters
Phenomenal read. This author is top shelf.
Yes, this book has gotten a tremendous amount of hype. But – in this case – its all worth it. Fascinating and fascinating characters with twists that will leave you stunned. Nothing about this book is what it seems to be in the beginning, and that’s what makes it so great. If you haven’t already, read it!
A great book…love it so much I couldn’t put it down
I hated the ending of this book. I read it 3 years ago and I’m still irritated. Won’t watch the movie for the same reason
Great
Cannot say for me that there was too much about this book I did like. It gets 2 stars because I do like Flynn’s writing style. The characters were awful, the plot was awful. It took my five attempts to finally read it over a period of a few months and I was never more grateful for a book to end. Watch the movie??? Nooooo. They had my least …
Well written but I hated both of them by the end and didn’t care what happened to either of them.
kind of trashy
Definitely one where the book is better than the film, this novel helped define the benchmark for the modern day literary “twist”. Don’t read it for that though – there’s great dialogue, some razor sharp character building and a suspenseful drive throughout. Comes into the recent classics category for thrillers.
Great book. Kept me guessing. Definitely recommend.
This book is twisted. Parts were predictable and some parts were not realistic but over all I felt it was clever.
Defines the genre of dark thriller
One of the best in this genre! Unforgettable!
Hideous characters.
One of my all time favorite books. I saw the movie and was very disappointed, the book was by far amazing!
You don’t expect the end!!!!!!!! So good!
I know everyone drooled over this book. Just not a well written character study with any depth.
Read this years ago and it was marvellously original.
