On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

“Absorbing . . . In masterly fashion, Flynn depicts the unraveling of a marriage—and of a recession-hit Midwest—by interweaving the wife’s diary entries with the husband’s first-person account.”—New Yorker
“Ms. Flynn writes dark suspense novels that anatomize violence without splashing barrels of blood around the pages . . . Ms. Flynn has much more up her sleeve than a simple missing-person case. As Nick and Amy alternately tell their stories, marriage has never looked so menacing, narrators so unreliable.”—The Wall Street Journal
“The story unfolds in precise and riveting prose . . . even while you know you’re being manipulated, searching for the missing pieces is half the thrill of this wickedly absorbing tale.”—O: The Oprah Magazine

Could not put this down… twisted and the psychological rollercoaster it takes you on is both thrilling and terrifying… I really loved the way it was told but can’t say much without giving things away… To make this into a movie was brilliant… but the book is absolutely the best choice….
It is rare that I don’t figure out the plot —–this was one book that kept me guessing
You can’t stop reading it. There’s no one to root for, but you need to know what’s on the next page.
Loved the book I can’t wait to see the movie
As with almost every movie, the book was better. Like many people, I assumed this was a blatant rip off of the Scott & Laci Peterson story Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson …until the plot took an unexpected turn.
If you like this sort of book, you will love this book.
I read this before the movie. I highly suggest reading this – GREAT book
I actually yelled out loud while reading this book from shock, confusion and excitment. I love this book. I could not put it down. The storyline is fabulous. Well written. Your mind keeps trying to figure everything out throughout the book.
After reading this book I’m really hesitant to watch the move. The book was THAT good. The twists and turns are some that I never saw coming. It’s not often where an author is so unpredictable that I don’t at least come close to guessing what’s happening next. This book did that to me multiple times. Definitely worth taking the time to read, you …
Enjoyed the book because Nick and Amy made me laugh. I liked how Flynn was able to capture the inner thoughs these characters really had for each other plus how they perceived the secondary characters in the book. The characters more than the mystery made this a good read for me. Even Flynn’s secondary characters were vital to this book.
This book was slow for the first half, but once you get through the “information portion” it takes off and doesn’t stop until the end. I loved this book! It has an amazingly twisted story and awesome characters!
This book…oh man…THIS BOOK. It’s crazy. My hubby always tells me he knows when I’m loving a book by how I act as i read it…Apparently this one got a lot of “WHAT?!!” and “Oh S***!” I absolutely hated the two main characters. But they weren’t made to be loved by the reader. There are twists and turns all over the place. This book will …
Just not for me, slow. Didn’t like the movie either,
If you are looking for a great plot twist, this book is it!
Disappointing. Well written but didn’t care for any of the characters and the plot was aggravating. I like this author but could have gone without reading this book.
It was a great read.
Took me a minute to get into it, but I ended up loving it.
This was strange the way the book started.
If you like books that take you into the psychopathology of human beings I think you will enjoy this read. Great character develop and great plot twist. I waited until I read the book before I saw the film. I almost always like the book better (don’t we all?) but the film stayed pretty true to the book and I enjoyed both. Recently read The Girl on …
Great mystery. Well written.
Gone Girl is a suspenseful thriller telling the story of a married couple named Amy and Nick Dunne. We see the story from the perspective of both individuals, each having a chance to tell their side of the story and lead the reader on to create possible scenarios in their head.
I had been anticipating this read for awhile, and finally decided to …
