On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

“Absorbing . . . In masterly fashion, Flynn depicts the unraveling of a marriage—and of a recession-hit Midwest—by interweaving the wife’s diary entries with the husband’s first-person account.”—New Yorker
“Ms. Flynn writes dark suspense novels that anatomize violence without splashing barrels of blood around the pages . . . Ms. Flynn has much more up her sleeve than a simple missing-person case. As Nick and Amy alternately tell their stories, marriage has never looked so menacing, narrators so unreliable.”—The Wall Street Journal
“The story unfolds in precise and riveting prose . . . even while you know you’re being manipulated, searching for the missing pieces is half the thrill of this wickedly absorbing tale.”—O: The Oprah Magazine

I’ve always loved Flynn, and this one did not disappoint. Plenty of unexpected twists to keep you reading and the development of each of the main characters was on point. I wasn’t sure who to root for! Loved it.
Although I’d seen the movie years ago, I hadn’t read the book. I listened to this one via my library and it’s so much better than the movie (which I watched again after listening). If I hadn’t know what was going on, I might not have guessed just reading it. You gotta really hate someone to plot out this kind of revenge.
This is my third read of Gone Girl, and every time I read this book I get the chills discovering more insidious details. What an amazing, creepy plot. So many multi-faceted characters dominate the story. Flawed yet lovable, we want to have a drink with innocent, bar-owner Nick, and cheer him on–even after his perfect wife, Amy, disappears, and he …
I’ve never given a five star review to a book where I’ve hated the main characters so much it’s almost personal, lol. Both of them self-absorbed, jaded with the world, look-down-their-nose-at-everyone-else people, doing nothing to improve the lives of anyone but themselves. But the mystery was brilliantly executed, and characters that can inspire …
Wow! What a ride! I can’t believe someone would go so far revenge-wise. Didn’t expect the ending.
Read it. You’ll thank me later.
Didn’t finish it (not even close). I need to have at least one character I give a damn about or I won’t stick with the book. This book had no such character. They could have both died by chapter 3 for all I cared.
A page-turning psychological thriller. Flynn has a crisp, engaging manner of writing that is effortless to follow along with. I thought the first half of the book, in particular, was outstanding. Her attention to scene detail is excellent; I felt as if I were “tagging along” throughout the story. I would’ve given it 5 of 5 stars had the ending …
This book is one of those wildly popular NYT bestseller novels you always hear about and have to read for yourself, like TWILIGHT or ELEANOR & PARK or THE BOOK THIEF. Since I usually read YA fantasy/sci-fi rather than adult novels, the pacing seemed a bit slow in the first half of the book, revealing character motivations and plot in a more …
Best book I’ve ever read.
For all the praise this received and all the derivatives it launched, I didn’t love this. Neither the first to pull off the unreliable narrator trick, nor the best at it…but probably best-known for it, which sometimes is enough.
GG just hit me kind of cold–I didn’t connect or much care about any of the characters, damaged or otherwise; …
Wow!! I actually took this out from the library, just in a stack of other books, I wasn’t really able to read the backs as I was with my boy who was two at the time, and was having a bit of a fit in the library, so I just snatched all the books closest to me, and this wound up in the pile. Was I ever lucky! I started this book at about 8:30 in the …
I am super late to the game with this and watched the movie before reading the book, but still thought it was a great twisted psychological thriller!
I really loved this book, kept me on edge the entire time!
I enjoyed the book, but was was somewhat disappointed in the ending. Although I like plot twists, this seemed hard to unravel at times. Overall I would recommend it but it wasn’t a favorite.
Couldn’t put it down
Loved this book!
I loved it different and page turning
An edge of your seat page Turner. Holy cow!
Wow!
