On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

“Absorbing . . . In masterly fashion, Flynn depicts the unraveling of a marriage—and of a recession-hit Midwest—by interweaving the wife’s diary entries with the husband’s first-person account.”—New Yorker
“Ms. Flynn writes dark suspense novels that anatomize violence without splashing barrels of blood around the pages . . . Ms. Flynn has much more up her sleeve than a simple missing-person case. As Nick and Amy alternately tell their stories, marriage has never looked so menacing, narrators so unreliable.”—The Wall Street Journal
“The story unfolds in precise and riveting prose . . . even while you know you’re being manipulated, searching for the missing pieces is half the thrill of this wickedly absorbing tale.”—O: The Oprah Magazine

Although the writing is very good, I just really hated the main character. I guess that is a testament to how well it was written that I would have such a strong reaction to the characters. This book left me feeling uncomfortable and dirty.
When I first started reading this book, I knew very little about it and initially was wondering what the hype was about but then the twists started happening and the more I read the more realization of what was happening dawned on me and in the end I was left thinking that it really was a brilliant piece of writing.
Caught on to the entire premise/plot by page 31. Since I value my reading time, I simply scanned to the end and then tossed the book into the bin. It was a money-maker for the author and publishers so obviously others did enjoy the storyline. My recommendation is: don’t bother.
Unpredictable
Disturbing
If you’ve seen the movie, that’s fine, but the novel cuts deeper and adds many moves you never saw coming. This novel help cement the phrase “unreliable narrator” in the reading public’s mind. What a bravura exemplar of the form. Keeps you reading with incisive prose as it keeps you guessing with deft psychological touches. A truly dangerous …
This book, and the movie it generated, is way over-rated and, while it was a perfectly fine thriller, it wasn’t really anything special. So, while I recommend it for a fun read, I will say if you’ve seen the movie, don’t bother with the book.
Yes! This book is amazing
Of course they made a movie. Good reading
Incredibly suspenseful!!!
Gone Girl is a twisted tale that makes for a very enjoyable read. I actually listened to this one, and that was a wonderful way to experience the story as the narrators were terrific!
Great book. I couldn’t put it down.
Great book, unexpected ending!!
I didn’t like it!!!
Loved it . Great characters and twisted story.
Fantastic book, did not love the ending.
I hated the characters so much but couldn’t stop reading it!!
Wow!
Over-hyped and over rated
Amy Dunne is one person you don’t want to cross and as her story unfolded despite seeing the film version I was still left in bewilderment.
I loved the self dialogue which Nick often had with himself. Along with Amy. But while each person point of view as depicted in alternating chapters came to place both scenarios seem wildly unrealistic yet at …
