On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

“Absorbing . . . In masterly fashion, Flynn depicts the unraveling of a marriage—and of a recession-hit Midwest—by interweaving the wife’s diary entries with the husband’s first-person account.”—New Yorker
“Ms. Flynn writes dark suspense novels that anatomize violence without splashing barrels of blood around the pages . . . Ms. Flynn has much more up her sleeve than a simple missing-person case. As Nick and Amy alternately tell their stories, marriage has never looked so menacing, narrators so unreliable.”—The Wall Street Journal
“The story unfolds in precise and riveting prose . . . even while you know you’re being manipulated, searching for the missing pieces is half the thrill of this wickedly absorbing tale.”—O: The Oprah Magazine

Really not written that well but a beach quick read
I read the book and saw the movie – the book was much better.
This novel stayed with me long after I finished the last sentence. haunting and tragic. The novel explores deep rooted secrets and what they do to the human psyche when pushed too far. A dark compelling read.
I finished this book, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. Not her best.
Absolutely a great read!
Great imaginative story of the missing wife, whose husband is the number one suspect in her disappearance. Her diary is all the evidence anyone needs. Just like she planned it.
This novel had many twists and original characters. It was a quick read and had an unexpected ending.
Great writing. Clever.
I hated the characters; they were both awful people, so therefore I really didn’t care what happend to them. I hated the ending.
My kind of book – twisty, turny, couldn’t stop reading.
I flat out loved this book. Withdrawals when I finished it. This was so twisted and bizarre, and took you up and down, never quite knowing who was the good guy or the bad girl. Very well written.
Hated both characters so much that I stopped reading at about 80% and cheated — looked up a plot summary on Wikipedia rather than torture myself reading about these people.
Loved it!
Excellent and full of suspense, with mind-bending plot twists!
This was an unusual missing persons story. Very well written and full of twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Awful!
A first of its kind.
A great read. Look forward to read more of her books
I couldn’t put this book down. Just when you think you have the story down there is a plot twist. I can say I was pretty mad at the ending. This kind of book is not normally what I read so to say I was hooked on the first page is a lot.
I couldn’t put it down!
