On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

“Absorbing . . . In masterly fashion, Flynn depicts the unraveling of a marriage—and of a recession-hit Midwest—by interweaving the wife’s diary entries with the husband’s first-person account.”—New Yorker
“Ms. Flynn writes dark suspense novels that anatomize violence without splashing barrels of blood around the pages . . . Ms. Flynn has much more up her sleeve than a simple missing-person case. As Nick and Amy alternately tell their stories, marriage has never looked so menacing, narrators so unreliable.”—The Wall Street Journal
“The story unfolds in precise and riveting prose . . . even while you know you’re being manipulated, searching for the missing pieces is half the thrill of this wickedly absorbing tale.”—O: The Oprah Magazine

I hated this book. The main characters were not at all likable or enjoyable. It was totally predictable. The minute the “event” happened I knew what the outcome would be.
I read one or two books a week , most of which I like. I absolutely hated this booK. Had no empathy with either character, dispised both by the end of the book.
HATED this nasty, manipulative thing.
Keeps you guessing
Expect the unexpected. The twists and turns were riveting. My book club had fun writing alternate endings. Many possibilities.
I really hated this book. Both characters were wholly unlikeable and the ‘plot twist’ was completely predictable. I think people who enjoyed this book might be readers of the authors who spit one out 3 times a year.
On my best books list. Kept me up all night trying to figure out who was guilty. Definitely not a formula mystery, this psychological thriller keeps the reader guessing until the very end. A great story without blood and guts, but a page turner all the same.

I liked nothing about this book. I found it disturbing and predictable.
A masterpiece that created its own copycat genre
A tense psychological thriller that you won’t figure out til the end. Fascinating.
Honestly, i don’t get why everyone likes this book so much. I found it hard to like any of the characters. I wanted at least one person to “cheer for”. Never found that.
I liked the movie better.
This book was so scary because it’s so possible. I’m an English teacher and think of myself as rather a sophisticated reader. I’ve heard such people slam this book, but I believe it deserves every bit of the praise it has gotten.
Great psychological mystery
Clearly Flynn’s best work. So good that I’ve read everything else she has written and nothing has come close
I read this when it first came out and thought it was fantastic. I do feel like the market has been flooded with psychological thrillers since and I now find myself burned out of this particular genre
I love everything but the ending, but it was true to form for the character. So I really loved the book!
Very suspenseful with a great storyline. I recommend anything by Gillian Flynn!!
Loved this book, keeps you interested and wondering
