Goliath Emerges is book three of the Star Scavenger Series. A thrilling space opera adventure with the mystery and action of Indiana Jones.
News has spread of Hudson and Liberty’s unique ability to discover new portals; now every relic hunter wants a slice of the action.
Starting out from Deimos Station near Mars, Hudson and Liberty take the Orion to a new portal world. But Logan Griff, and … near Mars, Hudson and Liberty take the Orion to a new portal world. But Logan Griff, and mercenaries Cutler Wendell and Tory Bellona, are still chasing them. This time, Griff wants more than just their heads, he wants the secret to finding new portals too.
Captured and imprisoned, Liberty must use all her skills and wits to escape a life of service to the Council, the galaxy’s deadliest criminal gang. But she discovers an ally in the most unlikely place.
Meanwhile, the mysterious alien entity known as Morphus returns. It agrees to assist Hudson in rescuing Liberty, but in return it needs his help too.
The stakes are even higher than Hudson imagined. A mighty force is returning, bent on the total annihilation of humanity. Its name is Goliath.
Goliath Emerges is part three of the Star Scavengers series. If you love space sci-fi like Firefly and Stargate blended with the mystery and adventure of Indiana Jones, you’ll love the this.

Hudson and Liberty are in trouble when they are finally caught by Griff, Cutler, and Tory. Even Tory seems to be unable to rescue them this time despite her apparent crush on Hudson. But then, Tory’s mad at Cutler ever since he nearly left her on the last planet, so who knows what that will lead her to do in the future.
The crystal in Griff’s possession, Liberty hauled off to be sold as a slave, and Hudson nearly dead with his broken down (sabotaged) ship and no way to fix it seems hopeless, but Morpheus comes to the rescue and is able to fix up both Hudson and his ship. But how will Hudson be able to find Liberty? How will Liberty escape (because we all know she isn’t going to just accept her fate and wait around to be rescued)? On a related note, I’m loving Liberty’s new “rich boy” friend and his nonchalant attitude about being captured – please let him remain part of the story!
The action doesn’t look like it’s going to let up any time soon, and with the odds stacked against Hudson, well, I guess nothing has really changed. But I’m still looking forward to what happens next…and dying to know when Tory finally switches sides. Even knowing her backstory, I don’t think she has a strong enough reason to stay with Cutler after all that’s happened in this book. We will see.
I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author and have reviewed it willingly.
“One decision can change the course of an entire civilization. One discovery can change your life.”
“In actuality, we are merely two unique intelligences, neither one more alien than the other.”
Gripping, engaging, and captivating! This series is a definite must read! It gets better with each new premise. If you like a riveting worldbuilding, plot twists, and subterfuge you’re likely to enjoy this series. Goliath had been a seed carrier – a titanic, sentient vessel that had been created to spread life throughout the galaxy, but now it’s set to destroy what it sowed. Its a unique, unpredictable and fast-paced novel that’s in equal parts unsettling and exciting. The characters are fun and resilient at the same time, realistic in their approach, witty dialogue interlaced with dynamic action. Can’t wait to read Union’s End #4!
This book takes a bit of a darker turn as Hudson and Liberty find their path derailed by none other than Griff and friends. It’s not just their fate on the line though! Jumping from one danger to another and finding help in unexpected places along the way, this fast paced story is one you won’t want to put down!
This is book 3 of 5 in the Star Scavenger series and though there is enough information for the books to be read as standalones, they really should be read in order as each tells a separate and important piece of the larger story. Speaking of which, they are running out of time, and at risk is nothing less than the continuing existence of mankind. What is the bigger threat? Goliath or human greed?
Our team has a talent for making discoveries, but of course everyone wants to use that for their own purposes. Being in high demand is not always good.
This is book three of the series, but it works pretty well as a standalone. You will be missing some of the backstory, but all the essentials are presented here.
The book is well written, easy to read and just plain fun. Things seem to go from bad to worse pretty quickly and it won’t let up any time soon. This fast pace keeps things moving and the reader guessing, so it becomes a real page turner in no time. It helps that the characters are well developed grow along the way. Overall, a very enjoyable story and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Highly recommended.

And I thought book 2 was good but this one was even better. It ramped up the action adventure, and outright craziness. Of course new and old bad guys show up as Hudson and Liberty have to stay ahead of them all. Things go sideways but the story was engaging and hard to put down. I had t see how Hudson and Liberty would survive and get out of the danger they end up in. And could not wait to see what else they figure out about the universe and portals Just a great read that drew me in and kept me reading to the end.
In Book 2, the reader learns that the great ship, Goliath, had a mission to cleanse certain planets of organic life. Although it had been prevented from completing the mission, it was sentient and grew bitter at not finishing the task. For thousands of years, it thought about its mission. The last Revocater vessel had interfered with the mission and destroyed any hope of its navigating to the target system 5118208. But Goliath thought that the last Revocater had perished in the process, ripped apart by projecting such a powerful gateway. So Goliath continued to wait until it was time to proceed again.
“Morphus” was the name that the human female, Liberty Devan, had assigned to it. It followed the human vessel to the fourth planet of System 5118208. It wasn’t really an individual because it had been just one of hundreds of artificial constructs created to operate the Revocaters. They had all been identical and with one purpose which was to stop Goliath. Yet all except Morphus had failed. Because that made it therefore unique, it had earned an individual name. So, Morphus accepted its new designation and adopted the idea of its individuality. Now it would require an adjustment to its programming, and in order to defeat Goliath again, it had to change and evolve.
By now, everyone has heard of Hudson and Liberty’s unique ability to discover new portals. So the rest of the relic hunters want to share that good fortune! Hudson and Liberty take the Orion to a new portal world after leaving Deimos Station near Mars. Logan Griff, along with the mercenaries Cutler Wendell and Tory Bellona, are still chasing after them. And Griff wants more than just their heads this time — he wants the secret to finding new portals too. Little do they realize, however, that a mighty force is returning, bent on the total annihilation of humanity. The name of the force is Goliath, and it’s unstoppable!
The relic hunters’ greed seems almost a non-issue compared to the huge ship ready to destroy Earth! Goliath appears undefeatable, with the power of a star. Can our heroes tackle such a seemingly-undefeatable foe? Will they have help from an unexpected source, assuming Morphus, “just one of hundreds of artificial constructs created to operate the original Revocaters”, can change and evolve in time to meet Goliath in battle? Grab your copy and dig in for what promises to be an unforgettable adventure!
Serviceable action adventure, with no subtlety
I am not liking this book. Action/adventure science fiction — it seems right up my alley. But the writing is somewhat immature to me; too much description… And those descriptions are obvious, excessive, emotional, and manipulative. I feel like the author is twirling evil mustaches and tipping black hats. Oh yeah, and the atmosphere is corrupt Badlands Space cowboys. Ugh, NO SUBTLETY WHATSOEVER.
It’s a shame because the actual story is intriguing enough with the disappeared mysterious alien cultures, or the human space exploration that is entirely dependent on those alien artifacts and technologies. Still, the characters and atmosphere are just too simplistic. And the repetitive, stupid writing just kills me. Why does it take 2-3 lines to describe every simple idea or action?! I was so exhausted and frustrated by this tendency throughout the story.
Even though the book opened with action, I can say that it finally gets to the good part about midway through the story! All of the main actors seem to be together, including the main bad guy who is finally awoken.
Yeah, the technological action, badass characters working together with respectable levels of intelligence, and world ending stakes eventually kick in, making the story worthwhile. I read to the end and might pickup the sequel to see how it all turns out.
