With shades of The Hunger Games, Ender’s Game, and Game of Thrones, debut author Pierce Brown’s genre-defying epic Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom. As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, … enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within. A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love—but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind’s destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution—and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo’s principles of love and justice to free his people. He must live for more. Advance praise for Golden Son “Pierce Brown is a prodigy. As great as the first book of the Red Rising Trilogy is, Golden Son is even better. A wild ride full of suspense, intrigue, and serious ass-kicking bravado, it’s expertly written and emotionally engaging, with top-notch universe-building that begs for further exploration. I want more!”—Christopher Golden, New York Times bestselling author of Snowblind “The stakes are even higher than they were in Red Rising, and the twists and turns of the story are every bit as exciting. The jaw-dropper of an ending will leave readers hungry for the conclusion to Brown’s wholly original, completely thrilling saga.”—Booklist (starred review) “Dramatic . . . the rare middle book that loses almost no momentum as it sets up the final installment.”—Publishers Weekly “Darrow is an assertive hero. . . . Comparisons to The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones series are inevitable, for this tale has elements of both.”—Kirkus Reviews Praise for Pierce Brown’s Red Rising “[A] spectacular adventure . . . one heart-pounding ride . . . Pierce Brown’s dizzyingly good debut novel evokes The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies, and Ender’s Game. . . . [Red Rising] has everything it needs to become meteoric.”—Entertainment Weekly “[A] top-notch debut novel . . . Red Rising ascends above a crowded dystopian field.”—USA Today “Compulsively readable and exceedingly entertaining . . . [a] must for both fans of classic sci-fi and fervent followers of new school dystopian epics.”—Examiner.com “A story of vengeance, warfare and the quest for power . . . reminiscent of The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones.”—Kirkus Reviews “Fast-paced, gripping, well-written—the sort of book you cannot put down.”—Terry Brooks From the Hardcover edition.

Ok, so I LOVED this second book in the Red Rising trilogy. Darrow is a great main character, flaws and all. It breaks my heart all he goes through. Once again you may think you know what is happening, but just when things seem good… BAM…something unexpected and usually bad happens. Lots of feels here guys.
I finished the book (late at night …
I have a lot of mixed feelings on it. I thought it was more tightly written & original than RR & I enjoyed the first half. The women were more fully fleshed and Darrow wasn’t as obnoxious. The plot kept twisting and going in directions I didn’t expect, which was great.
The second half was like that extended battle scene in a Marvel movie where …
The beginning of this book threw me with Darrow on a spaceship in another simulation game, but Brown quickly picked up the pace and continued with the fighting. Darrow continues to show how “human” he is with him trying to save everyone even while at civil war. Brown includes the same characters from RED RISING but adds characters because of so …
Red Rising is my favorite series of all time. This is one series where the second and third books do not disappoint. Pierce Brown is my literary idol.
yesss
This original trilogy was fantastic
While not perfect, this book did continue the story of Darrow in a satisfying way. A lot of the issues from the first book still existed, but the world seemed to expand in a positive, natural way.
Some of the characters feel like the author wasn’t sure what to do with them. Characters like Quinn, Roque, and the Howlers either just die are don’t …
I’m LOVING this series! It’s really exciting and well-written, and I am burning through it. Can’t put it down.
Pierce Brown Red Rising series is a new favorite. The characters are not cardboard cutouts down before. The characters are flawed and realistic. I could see this story as out future.
Another solid installment of the Red Rising series. I found I enjoyed this book even more than the first, as the plot became more intricate and the cloak and dagger storyline was well executed.
It’s a Red Rising trilogy book. Nuf said. If you love America and liked Red Rising you will love this one.
I was so excited to start Golden Son. I was a little thrown off to have started so much further along than where Red Rising ended off. I found that I needed to read the first chapter a couple times, because I felt like I was missing something. Pierce Brown does an excellent job with his story line and character building. Darrow is such a strong …
The first one was great, but this one took it to another level. Out of all the sequel books I have read this was the best. It was the best book I have ever read. It went a different route than the first one. Changing it completely. The first one was more like hunger games and a little bit of game of thrones, this was more like star wars and game …
I have no words for this sequel. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Not stop excitement and apprehension. The stakes are raised and Darrow doesn’t have an arena as a boundary to how far things will go. He’s in the real world now. He will see how far the golds power reaches and how far they’ll go to keep it. He is tested at every …
This whole series is absolutely amazing.
I LOVED this book and the whole series!
One of my new favorite authors!!!
Great follow-up to Red Rising. The story is set about a year after the first book and it finds Darrow firmly placed within the House of Augustus, ArchGovernor of Mars. However, his rise within the Gold’s society and his place among the Sons of Ares will be less than a smooth ride. Most trilogies are made or broken by their second installment, and …
