THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERLucas Davenport’s first case as a U.S. Marshal sends him into uncharted territory in the thrilling new novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series. The man was smart and he didn’t mind killing people. Welcome to the big leagues, Davenport. Thanks to some very influential people whose lives he saved, Lucas is no longer working for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal … saved, Lucas is no longer working for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, but for the U.S. Marshals Service, and with unusual scope. He gets to pick his own cases, whatever they are, wherever they lead him.
And where they’ve led him this time is into real trouble. A Biloxi, Mississippi, drug-cartel counting house gets robbed, and suitcases full of cash disappear, leaving behind five bodies, including that of a six-year-old girl. Davenport takes the case, which quickly spirals out of control, as cartel assassins, including a torturer known as the “Queen of home-improvement tools” compete with Davenport to find the Dixie Hicks shooters who knocked over the counting house. Things get ugly real fast, and neither the cartel killers nor the holdup men give a damn about whose lives Davenport might have saved; to them, he’s just another large target.
Filled with his trademark razor-sharp plotting and some of the best characters in suspense fiction, Golden Prey is further reason why “Sandford has always been at the top of any list of great mystery writers” (The Huffington Post).

A n entertaining book. Good author.
Sandford is one of the few authors who have written a ‘long-term’ character, such as Davenport, in a consistently exciting way. This character has grown from one plateau to the next without losing the allure of a tough guy that can kick some butt even in his ‘aging’ life. Keep it up Sandford!
Love LOVE JOHN SANFORD’S BOOK’S!! ONCE I START I CAN’T. PUT THEM DOWN!!!!! LOVE CHARACTER DAVENPORT ANDI CAN’T REMEMBER THE OTHER CHARACTER . YET THEY COMBINE. JUST AWESOME
Love to read John Sandford, his plots are always different and twisty.
Sandford never disappoints!
Sandford alwalys delivers! A great read.
Not exactly a big winner in this series for me, but it did have some unexpected twists and turns.
Now lucas an track any serious criminal anywhere, not just minnisota.
I love all the Prey books, each is better than the last. I highly recommend this series and this author.
Could not put it down. Really had me going till the end
Not one of his best, but still a good read.
As always, well written
Loved it!
Another good Davenport story although I am not crazy about the Marshall deal
I have read the entire Prey series by this author as well as his Virgil Flowers series. His style of writing keeps you turning the pages. As a reader you are drawn into the characters lives and care about them. In Golden Prey the main character of the Prey series starts a new chapter in his life/career. It is full of suspense with twists but like all Sandford’s books also has some humor too. If you haven’t yet read Sandford you really are missing out on some great reads.
Sanford always delivers an excellent story with great characters
Great book, in long line of Sandford books!
Sandford always churns out a great book!
Wasn’t sure where Lucas would be going–seemed to need a change. Sandford hit it on the head–whole new story lines to open up–great change that works!
I’ve enjoyed everything Sanford has written including Golden Prey!
