In the latest thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, homicide detective Eve Dallas investigates a murder with a mysterious motive–and a terrifying weapon. Pediatrician Kent Abner received the package on a beautiful April morning. Inside was a cheap trinket, a golden egg that could be opened into two halves. When he pried it apart, highly toxic airborne fumes entered his body–and … entered his body–and killed him.
After Eve Dallas calls the hazmat team–and undergoes testing to reassure both her and her husband that she hasn’t been exposed–it’s time to look into Dr. Abner’s past and relationships. Not every victim Eve encounters is an angel, but it seems that Abner came pretty close–though he did ruffle some feathers over the years by taking stands for the weak and defenseless. While the lab tries to identify the deadly toxin, Eve hunts for the sender. But when someone else dies in the same grisly manner, it becomes clear that she’s dealing with either a madman–or someone who has a hidden and elusive connection to both victims.

I have read every one of the Eve Dallas books. The dynamic between Eve and Roarke is always hot, challenging and evolving. The secondary characters add layers to the story even when they are the bad guys. Enjoyed this latest adventure very much. Would have liked more of Roarke and Eve instead of quite so much of the each tiny step of the investigation.
Another favorite series. They don’t get published fast enough! I impatiently wait for each one.
This is the 50th entry in the Eve Dallas mystery series. Unlike other long-running series, this one hasn’t gotten stale over the years.
In this outing, Detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called to the scene of a man who has died under suspicious and gruesome circumstances in his own kitchen. It doesn’t take long to determine he’s been murdered by a toxin delivered to him in a box addressed to the victim, a pediatrician. In her usual meticulous way, Dallas begins her investigation. She quickly ascertains that the victim was well-liked by everyone he’d come into contact with – with the exception of one person – his murderer. When another person is murdered using the same cocktail of toxins, Eve’s focus shifts and goes into high gear as she tries to find the connection between the two victims and their killer.
This outing has everything Robb’s fans have fallen in love with in the first forty-nine books, excellent writing, characters that you like, and a storyline that twists and turns as it moves toward the end of the book. This is another page-turner that will keep you up past your bedtime.
If you haven’t read the other books in this series, not to worry. Robb gives the new reader enough information about the characters so you’ll not be left guessing and trying to figure out the connections between the on-going characters. If you are a fan of futuristic mysteries, this book needs to be on your to-be-read list.
My thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Edelweiss for an eARC.
Not one of the best, but still good for die hard readers.
The plot in the latest “in death” book was very original with killing scenarios that had me gripped and waiting for the next victim. The characters were the regular cast from Robb’s series, with the addition of those who were the killers and the victims. As Robb led me, I really disliked the killers who were entitled and killed without a really good reason. (Note: I’m not sure that there is a good reason to kill, but the perps in this book were just unreasonably psychotic.). Anyway, I enjoyed the book and recommend it to those who enjoy a good mystery and a part of the “in Death” series.

I’m addicted to this J.D. Robb series, and this book did not disappoint.
I really enjoy J.D. Robb’s Eve Dallas series. I’ve read all of them, starting way back in 1999 when I borrowed a few of her books while on vacation. I enjoy that many of the same characters show up in every new novel, and that the main characters continue to grow and develop.
6 stars. Awesome book
What a perfect idea for the 50th “in Death” book, and well done
I have read every book in this series. That speaks for itself. I am hooked.
There isn’t a Dallas book I haven’t liked. Good read and will keep you up at night until it is finished!
Always a favorite – love her books and is one of few authors I will read a book more than once.
Golden in Death is can you believe it, the 50th book in the ‘In Death’ Series. Again, the whole gang are here as Dallas, Roarke and Peabody are on the search for a killer who looks like they are killing indiscriminately…or are they. When a man dies unexpectedly one morning after opening a package. Dallas is put onto the case as things don’t add up. From here she is taken to an elite school, a shady headmistress and students who are out of control. As another death happens, Dallas is pushed to the brink on finding the killer(s) whilst trying to balance her personal/work life.
As always with this series, they are a fast, easy and enjoyable read. Not only do you have the crime aspect and the quirkiness between ‘free ager’ Peabody and ‘hard ass’ Dallas, you also have the balance that Dallas seems to be finding easier between her and Roarke. There are some moments that make you smile as you know you may have had similar conversations in your own relationships.
This was definitely a comfortable story t read and I love seeing characters from the other books pop in and out throughout the story and how they have developed even after having their own trials and tribulations. As always, it’s great seeing into the mind of J.D. Robb and what the future could look like as well as a great story that keeps you plodding along until the very end. A really enjoyable read!

Love it!
If you love J.D. Robb, you’ll love this book as well. Great mystery, the return of her wonderful characters who continue to grow. The culprit(s) are dastardly as always and the reason is phenomenally shallow. You revel in catching the person or persons responsible. I wait for each new book and as soon as I’ve read it, I want the next one but always, we must wait. But if you haven’t read this one, you at least have this!
Classic JD Robb
There are so many things I love about this series, not the least of which is the romance between Eve and Roarke.
In this the fiftieth book in the In Death Series Eve faces a puzzle that isn’t making any sense at all. There doesn’t appear to be any reason for the targeted death of pediatrician Kent Abner. Everyone appears to have liked him, married for years, a family that loves him. There is shock and overwhelming grief as well as fear in this tale’s beginning.
An unknown toxic agent, fortunately dissipated before the body was discovered is the primary concern for the moment. Even though Eve has told him she’s fine and was cleared at the scene Roarke is still worried.
The investigation brings into play several favorite characters starting with Peabody and then others from EDD Feeney, McNab, Carmichael. Of course there’s Summerset the butler trading barbs with Eve and the cat Galahad and so many more.
As always a riveting story with more than one murder and plenty of frustration and tension for Eve and her team. Plus that sizzling heat between her and Roarke that has come so very far from the first book.
I loved this book from the beginning to the very satisfactory ending.
I think I’m going to go back to the very beginning and read through again. It’s amazing that this is now the 50th book.
Eve, Roarke and the gang are back and better than ever in another nail biting thriller of epic proportions.
What I loved most about Golden in Death is the strength and balance Eve and Roarke have built up over the past 50 books both in the work and professional lives, it has been an absolute privilege to read and follow along with them through this journey and Golden in Death was another gripping thriller.
my favorite laugh out loud quote from this wonderful story was “You’re going to pay for this.” “I’m standing right here looking at you naked, with bed hair and a bad disposition. I’ve already paid.”
this is just so Eve I couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
My only bug with the book and it’s minor no Mavis and no Nadine this one seemed news worthy but no Nadine apart from that the story was sold, the characters as always exceptional especially the bad guys they are always well written.
Another awesome read.
I love this series! These books can be read as stand alones. I have read every one of them and I can will continue to. I enjoy seeing Eve’s growth in each book. Eve grows emotionally with each case. The cases are intellectually stimulating. The characters are all wonderful, from their poop brown suits to their psychedelic ties.
As always
