This was such a satisfying conclusion to what quickly became a new favorite series–by a new favorite author, no less! I can’t say much more without spoiling all kinds of things, but all of my favorite characters ended up in places I was thrilled with. I look forward to this author’s take on Cinderella next!
This is the second book in the series & it is masterfully written. I read this one straight through in one sitting. Etta becomes a darker character, while Alex begins to mature into a king. La Dame is introduce with flare & has just enough crazy to make her a beautifully evil enemy. The Rapunzel twist was wonderfully surprising. Ms. Lynn has written a wonderfully creative story that will leave you craving the next one.
And the sequel did NOT disappoint!! I fled through this book just like with the first instalment, as the writing is easy and flowy and the story is gripping. Loved to see the characters evolve and grow and transform, especially Etta, loved the twists that kept being thrown and the foreshadowing that allowed me to at least expect some of them. That ending was to die for, so well done, I honestly did not see that twist coming and it was exactly what the story demanded! Would love to have been a little more inside La Dame’s psychological world, would have loved to be given more insight into her – especially because I already expected the reasons for her hatred of the Basiles!! – hopefully I’ll get more of that on the third and final book. Seriously well done, this re-telling of a classical tale! I reccomend it to any lover of fantasy and fairytales
Persinette “Etta” Basile, now Queen of Bela, is facing war against La Dame. She has to learn to control her powers, otherwise they stand no chance. At the same time Alexander Durant is trying to get his kingdom and his crown back. But can he unite his people with the magic folk?
This is the last book in the Rapunzel retelling – and the only one I didn’t LOVE. Golden Crown is still really good, but I don’t like what the magic is doing to Etta. I can understand the darkness and the power of the magic, but it gets “too much” when Etta can’t recognise her friends, or is oblivious to who she hurts. Also, the build up to the fight with La Dame is really long (it started in the last book), and then it’s over rather quickly; it’s almost an anticlimax.
We get the expected ending, although the road there is complicated and full of twists and turns. I will miss Etta, Alex, Edmund, Tyson and the others, but at the same time I feel satisfied and happy.
Great ending to Etta’s story. The story wraps up nicely and keeps you interested until the end.
The final book for Alex and Etta and WOW!! I loved every minute of their journey and so happy with the ending. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the series continues.
I Loved It!!
This book gave me the explanation why & how it was based on Rapunzel It’s as good one too
All of the characters who survived ‘Golden Curse’ are in ‘Golden Chains’ We even get to know some of the lesser characters more deeply & I’m really glad of that as Amalie, especially, was much different to what she portrayed outwardly!! La Dame is in this book!! She’s as twisted as a ‘baddy’ in any Fairy Tale should be, if not more so. She seems deranged and completely without empathy!!!
This book deals with trying to move past learned prejudices, risking it all, betrayal and love – love of family, friends, your people and of course romantic love It’s gripping, entertaining & full shocking revelations! Sometimes the thing you wish hardest for, such as freedom, can actually put you in stronger, tighter chains. The grass isn’t always greener
I highly recommend this twisted Fairy Tale, it’s great fun to read & to escape in to
