Another wonderful read by a rocking writer!
Love Blake and Hadley’s story.. I wanted to kick Blake a few times till he got with the program. Now bring on Hunters story…lol
RB Hillard is a relatively new author for me. I only just learned of her in this past year and I think I’ve already read everything she’s written. Having said that…yes I’m a fan of her words. This book is no different….But BEWARE there maybe SPOILERS a head
First we have Blake, while being a great friend, boss and brother to his sister Cat isn’t what you’d think of as good boyfriend material. Sure he’s extremely good looking, he’s running a successful business and he’s got a healthy bank account….he just doesn’t do commitment. Sure he enjoys women…he enjoys the variety, the sex but also the freedom to walk away.
Next…enter Hadley, she’s a little quiet and shy. She wants to be a chef. To own her own bakery one day. She a woman who keeps her eye on the prize and her head down. Except for school, work and trying to keep an eye on her free spirited somewhat self centered mom and little sister Hadley doesn’t have time for dating, sex or fun.
When she decides to go to the wedding of her best friend Cat in Charlotte…Hadley decides it’s now or never to step outside her comfort zone and finally live a little. When Blake sees Hadley at his sisters wedding he can’t take his eyes off of her and after a few too many drinks Hadley and Blake spend a night together that neither of them can forget.
Blake can’t forget because he connects with Hadley more than he wants to admit. But before he can talk to her more or explore it further he wakes up and finds Hadley gone.
Hadley can’t forget because Blake isn’t just everything she dreamed he would be and more. But because of her insecurities about her level of experience and her drunken behavior she feels she’s made a fool out of herself in front of this man who rocked her world….and then….she ran out on him. Oh…and now she’s realized she’s pregnant. So…there’s that too.
When Hadley confides in Cat about her night with her brother, about her fears of humiliating herself in front of Blake and of her pregnancy, Cat takes it upon herself to ask Hadley to move to Charlotte to become the head chef of the hotel restaurant/bar that her husband Zane now owns. Hadley reluctantly agrees. Knowing she needs the help, the moral support and the job. A job which is also a dream opportunity for a person who’s fresh from culinary school.
As you might guess Blake is shocked she’s there. Angry she just left and now she’s just there…and Hadley hoping to find a way to break the news of their baby and possibly start a new life herself hits a wall when she has to face Blake’s active social life up close and personal.
This story was AMAZING and it does have a happy ending…after a few twists and wrong turns. In the end its characters find out what’s most important.
The only con in this story if there is one and that’s it does leave you wondering what’s going to happen with Hunter, the third man in the Whiskey series. But that’s the next story…and now…. I wait…. (hint hint)
Read Gold Digger….in fact I recommend you read everything this lady writes you will be very glad you did.
Gold Digger is book 2 in the Whiskey’s series but it can be read as a standalone, as that is what I did! I had no issues with reading book two first. I will tell you that I will be one-clicking Utterly Forgettable, Zane and Cathryn’s story after I write this review!
Hadley Jacobs is a cute, shy, super sweet, funny, independent women that has her life all in order and on track.
Blake Moreno is a hot, drool worthy, man whore, that has his life all in order and on track.
Until one drunken night changes both of their lives and switches the tracks they were on! This one night will bring BIG changes for the two of them. There were times during this story that I was laughing and cry, being frustrated to being in shock, to wanting to slap the crap out of both characters and then to cheer loudly for them at the end.
I was not disappointed with this read. The story line flowed and loved that Hadley (the Gold Digger) and Blake (Blaze) were both complex and believable. I am sure we all have a friend or two that we thought about while reading this book. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see what comes next with Hunter!
Blake is the definition of what most would consider a “man-hoe”. He doesn’t do relationships or commitments but there is just something about Hadley. His sister’s college best friend has been on his mind since that one night, one night that changes both of their lives forever.
Honestly, I love anything this lady writes and Gold Digger once again fits in line with that. Blake intrigued me from Zane and Cat’s book in Utterly Forgettable. It was one of those characters you knew that when they fell, it was going to hard. Hadley has been admiring Blake since she first met him. He is her best friends brother and she knows his reputation well. Reputation or not, that does steer her away. Hadley was a brave heroine but also has her “annoying” quality with jumping to conclusions. (Side note, her sister and mother drove me batty! How inconsiderate can you be?)
The relationship between Blake and Hadley is definitely a roller coaster ride that will make you wonder just how their story will play out. I love the fact that you really can’t pinpoint how everything will play out and it keeps you guessing on how Blake will go forth with Hadley. I was quickly turning pages to see what happened next. Their story is fast paced and will leave you wanting more when you realize you have turned the last page.
Outside their story is Hunter, a little bit of his story started to play out in this book. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. It already seems like the drama has taken hold.
This can be read as a standalone but you will find Zane and Cat’s story in Utterly Forgettable.
I’m completely in love with Hadley and Blake! She’s sweet and a bit shy yet feisty. There’s something about him that pulled me in. I smiled, laughed, shook my head in shock and couldn’t flip pages fast enough. Definitely one of my favorite light hearted, fun books. An absolute must read! I’m looking forward to Hunter’s story.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Hadley going to her best friend’s wedding never intended to end up in bed with her best friend’s brother. She came back to town with a secret and looking for happiness. Blake was a true playboy everybody wanted him but he wanted none of them. I love the banter between Hadley and Blake and how he brings her out of her shell.
Hadley and Blake hook up at a wedding, stop me if you’be heard that one before. Of course they go their separate ways but every action has a consequence. This is the story of their hilarious at times and frustrating at other times road to happliy ever after.
Hadley could be a little frustrating at times but who am I kidding, Blake was worse. But I loved them together. Add in a cast of interesting side characters and you have a wonderful, laugh out loud romantic comedy.
I absolutely enjoyed the ride!
Blake and Hadley…there are not enough words to describe how much I loved getting to know them.
Gold Digger was sweet, funny, full of angst, some drama and oh the hot sexy time. The book has everything I love in a story. This was my first book by RB Hilliard and I was hooked with the story from page one.
Blake the player who doesn’t do relationships meets Hadley the innocent one who has her life planned out again at his step sisters wedding (who happens to be Hadley’s best friend). Some alcohol is had and one thing leads to another and BAM both lives are turned inside out. Now you are wondering what happened? Well I could tell you but it would ruin the story for you. Just know that it results in a relationship being formed between Blake and Hadley that is full of drama and some laugh out loud moments.
The banter between Blake and Hadley was also priceless and I couldn’t help but keep a smile on my face. The sweet and shy girl becomes the girl with no filter and it was just epic at times. RB Hilliard, the characters were so relatable and I wished I was right there with them in the story. I think Cathryn would make a kick@ss best friend….just saying.
P.S. I think Hunter and Wayne each need there own books.
• Review By Chasing The Words Book Blog
I have to say, I loved this book. You’ve read the teaser and maybe the reviews, so you know what the book is about. But I’m telling you truthfully, this story and characters will have you laughing out loud! At one point I was laughing so hard I had tears. These characters screw up and insecurities will misread the cues and situations so there’s angst and drama, but it’s a love story with heart and comedy with the awaited HEA at the end. What a delight.
When a one night stand at her best friend’s wedding results in consequences, Hadley packs herself up and heads to Charlotte for a new job and to tell the baby’s daddy. Should be easy, right? Nothing is ever easy. Will Hadley and Blake find their HEA?
When Hadley hooks up with her friend’s stepbrother at a wedding, she never imagines how off course it will take her life. And when she moves so she can let Blake in on her big news, she has no idea just how badly he’ll take it. To her detriment, she doesn’t tell him for awhile. His attitude toward her when she reappears in his life didn’t help her insecurity, though, so I place the blame for most of their rocky start right on his broad shoulders.
I have to admit that I don’t like Blake one bit. I like Hadley, though, and the secondary cast of characters in this sexy story. It’s fairly angsty and I wanted these two to just get themselves on the same page and to stay there. They were pretty frustrating, actually. But what I like is that I think they actually acted pretty realistically for their situation. It wasn’t an easy predicament they had gotten themselves into, and most of us probably wouldn’t have handled it any better than they did.
So though I do not like Blake, I do like the rest of the ensemble cast, and I think the whole story is sexy and realistic. I do wish there had been an epilogue, though. And I am now really looking forward to Hunter’s story.
I love oops I got pregnant stories but I think this might be my favorite. After a embarrassing (for Hadley, hilarious To me) one night stand Hadley ends up pregnant. Blake is your typical man whore but Hadley is not having that. But can’t stop her feelings for him. I laughed way more than I should half at some of these scenes. But you definitely do not want to miss out on this story!!
Gold Digger by R. B. Hilliard was so much fun to read. Her main characters, Hadley and Blake, were hilarious as they bumbled their way through their attraction. One misstep and Hadley finds her ever so straight-and-narrow pathway is suddenly a jumbled mess. Alcohol mixed with all the wedding reception feels and a sexy stepbrother leave Hadley with a new future to consider. A future she never in a million years imagined.
Blake and Hadley are brought together by fate or circumstance, depending on how you look at it. Although they fight their attraction and seem to be off-railed and off-track more often than not, their worlds still collide as if something bigger than them both is drawing them together. If love were simple, what fun would that be?
Craziness abounds with the cast of characters in this book. RB had me laughing on every page. I most especially loved the Spanish endearments Blake seduced Hadley with. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments in this book, you just have to read it yourself to get the full effect. Eccentric neighbours, off-their-rocker family members, piano-bar divas, drunken friends, controlling and possessive gay chefs, and jealous boyfriend-wannabes are just a few of the crew that will grab hold of you in this book.
Gold Digger was a sweet yet hilarious romantic comedy that I thoroughly enjoyed. I totally recommend this one to all the hopeless romantics out there who love to laugh while enjoying crazy antics and watching the fallout when jealousy rears her ugly head.
A great contemporary romance. I really enjoyed it
