A splendid send-up of government, the postal system, and everything that lies in between in this newest entry in Terry Pratchett’s internationally bestselling Discworld series. Convicted con man and forger Moist von Lipwig is given a choice: Face the hangman’s noose, or get Ankh Morpork’s ancient Post Office up and running efficiently! It was a tough decision . . . Now, the former criminal is … . .
Now, the former criminal is facing really big problems. There’s tons of undelivered mail. Ghosts are talking to him. One of the postmen is 18,000 years old. And you really wouldn’t want to know what his new girlfriend can do with a shoe.
To top it all off, shadowy characters don’t want the mail moved. Instead, they want him dead—deader than all those dead letters. (And here he’d thought that all he’d have to face was rain, snow, and gloom of night . . .)

Funny, clever, and like all of Terry Pratchett’s books, full of wonderful similes, metaphors, and turns of phrase.
I love all Terry Pratchet but I picked this because one of my favourite things abut his books is the way he blends the mundane of our world with fantasy. It makes the fantasy so much more real and our world so much more magical.
Pratchett was one of the finest humorists of his generation. Every one is a gem.
This is one of the funniest books I read from Terry Pratchett. As always it gives us a lesson on the way of the world, this one the regular post office vs. a version of internet, mixing work force unionist battles and respect of workers… in the end we still love the tyrant and the witty postmaster because of their common sense, a trait we find …
Moist is the best set. Great book
You will never view the Post Office or the internet in quite the same way again!
Terry Pratchett weaves another Discworld tale to perfection. Moist (yep, his name is Moist) is a trickster and swindler, but his world is flipped upside-down in this fantasy jaunt. The city’s dictator (Vetinary) gives Moist the option of becoming the city’s postmaster, or he can take the other option of death. Moist chooses the first.
If you have …
I loved it. This is the book that finally hooked my husband on Terry Pratchett. Moist Von Lipwig is a great character and as the daughter and granddaughter of postal workers, how could I resist this story? You’ll love this book!
I’ve been through all the Discworld novels. In order. They’re all good, but some are better than others. _Going Postal_ is one of the best, and since it introduces a new protagonist, it is a good choice as “your first Discworld novel.” Another good choice would be _Guards! Guards!_, which you can find …
This really is my favorite book by my favorite author. It’s amazing how a world of golems, dwarves, werewolves, coerced criminals, do-gooders and no-goods can so sharply mirror all that is wrong and right in our own world, AND keep you laughing out loud the whole time. READ THIS!
One of Pratchett’s best!
IT’S TERRY PRATCHETT
Terry Pratchet is an amazing combination of memorable turns of phase and fantastic sci-fi/fantasy ideas
Very entertaining. Great characters. One of my favorites.
One of my favorite books of all time and in this series. You do not have to read the series to understand the book.
Very funny, great satire!
Great fun in a very British way.
Best satire since Swift.
One of his best, right up there with Wee Free Men and Carpe Juggulum for astonishingly funny stuff with sly but serious social commentary.
It’s everything a Pratchett book should be
