She’s the one woman he can’t have… and the only one he wants. Cody Madsen has resisted for almost two years—technically. Even though he talks to Liv every day and sees her every weekend… there’s no kissing, touching, or telling her how he really feels. After all, her older brother forbid it and as one of his best friends, Cody has to respect that. Liv just wants what her three sisters have—true … that.
Liv just wants what her three sisters have—true love. She could almost believe she’s found it with the gorgeous fire chief, and her best friend, if it weren’t for the fact that they’re off-limits to each other.
Her solution? A dating site where they can each find their “Perfect Pick” once and for all. But how will she handle it if someone else turns out to be his soul mate?

I have mixed feelings in this one. For good friends I thought this would have more to it. But it kind of was sputtering instead of flames. Glad they got their happy ending. But I was more happy it ended.
This book was kind of a surprise. I really like how Olivia and Cody are awesome. They have everything going for them but owning up to the fact they have feelings for each other. I was cheering for Olivia through the whole book. I didn’t know if they was going to finally get it together or not. I am so glad I got to know all the sisters. It is always nice to have your favorite characters be apart of the other books. I felt like I was in the family. This book is a must to read.
Happy sigh!
Going for Four is the fourth in the Just Everyday Heroes: Night Shift series by Erin Nicholas (it was formerly known as the Counting on Love series). It’s about Olivia Dixon, the baby of the four Dixon Divas, who’ve grown up under the watchful eye of their older brother Conner. Olivia has been best friends with Cody Madsen for years. Cody is one of Conner’s best friends, and as such, promised to treat Conner’s sisters as his own. But what he feels for Olivia is far from brotherly. As fire chief, Cody is also Olivia’s boss at the fire station, and that’s another level of complication. So the two of them recognized they shared a pretty serious attraction, but because of their love and respect for their family and friends, they set themselves strict ground rules that keep them on the straight and narrow. So the time they spend together is watching movies, creating new desserts in the kitchen (literal desserts, people, LOL!), and doing all sorts of other friend stuff. None of that involves kissing. Or more than kissing, even though the temptation is strong.
But her sisters have all found love–with a number of their mutual friends–and she really wants what they have too. But she knows she won’t find it given their current situation. So she proposes they sign up for a dating site that will help them find their “Perfect Pick”. Cody would sooner stab himself in the leg than see Olivia dating someone else, but he ultimately wants her to be happy, so he agrees.
Erin Nicholas does an incredible job with Liv and Cody’s story. It’s about growing beyond how others see you or how you see yourself. It’s about speaking up for what you want. It’s about knowing you’re worth it. It’s about being yourself. It’s about being loved the way you are and the way you deserve. It’s about being part of a loving family and community.
Going for Four is definitely a keeper, and in this case, friends do absolutely make the best lovers 😉
Conner and Cody have been best friends since college, where Conner observed Cody treating his girlfriend from high school badly, causing a rift in their friendship for some time. Now that they’re friends again, Conner doesn’t trust Cody as anything but a friend to his youngest sister Olivia. For the past two years Olivia and Cody have been best friends, neither one wanting to ruin his friendship or upset her brother. Add to that the fact that Cody only does easy and has never had to put an effort into anything, much less the women in his life. So far, I’m good with this premise.
Here’s where I take issue with the story. Cody eventually admits to Olivia that he’s been in love with her the entire time, but all the while he’s been going through women like a hay fever sufferer goes through tissues in August. Being BFFs, Olivia not only gets to watch the hook-ups happen in living color, she gets the post-game analysis. Then Cody tells Olivia that all those women he’s been wick dipping with were simply his attempt to forget about her. What girl wouldn’t swoon at that wimpy, illogical copout as a declaration of undying love? But wait, there’s more. Olivia realizes that Cody really does love her when she talks to said wick reservoirs who tell her they hate her because Cody always talked about her and wouldn’t give them his full attention during their one night together. That’s enough to make any girl’s heart go pitter-pat, am I right? And then, the icing on the cake? Somehow things get turned around and the blame is all placed on Olivia for keeping Cody in the friend zone and stringing him along. That one gave me whiplash.
I’ve enjoyed all the books in the Everyday Heroes series and have read all the way through Day Shift and Night Shift to this point and thoroughly enjoyed them. I liked Olivia and Cody, in spite of his fatal flaws, but he really didn’t do much to deserve Olivia after all the earlier monkey business. In fact, if anyone deserves credit for magnanimity and grand gestures, it’s the brother, Conner! This book is well written and the storyline kept my attention, so it was an easy and entertaining read in that regard. I love all the characters from the other books and was hoping to catch up a little more with some of them and the details of their lives that had been set up in their books, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. If you’re reading the series, you may not want to pass this one up, but I could just as easily have skipped it and saved myself the irritation of an unredeemed hero.
4.5 stars and the last Dixon Diva sister
Cody Madsen has been in love with Olivia Dixon for the last two years but she is his best friend’s sister and off limits romantically but he’s determined to keep her in his life as friends. Olivia feels the same way but knows her brother would never approve of them as a couple.. so she tells Cody that since they can’t seem to find their soul mates in the dating world maybe they should go to a dating site and sign up on Perfect Pick.
Now the question is…can they be happy for each other if they do find the “Perfect Pick” or will this lead them to finding out they are “Perfect” for each other???
4.5 stars – Olivia and Cody were an interesting couple. They had been ignoring the chemistry between them for nearly two years causing some of the longest foreplay I’ve ever read about. The way they danced around it while becoming great friends and even co-workers, and the many near-misses, kept me involved in their story. They had some unique issues in their relationship that aren’t often brought up in romance novels. I loved the moments of the book where Olivia’s strong, confident side came out and how Erin Nicholas gave both characters incidents in their pasts to explain why they were more willing to follow Conner’s advice. I also really enjoyed the many romance movie references peppered throughout the book. I feel they really helped illustrate Olivia’s romantic side.
Another awesome book by Erin Nicholas! Going For Four is a friends to lovers trope that is complicated with the big brother/best friend thrown in for good measure. Ms. Nicholas writes stories that flow with enough romance and family drama to make it so that you never ever want the book to end!
Olivia and Cody are incredible characters that could very easily be in your circle of friends. I was pulling so hard for Olivia and Cody to get together and forget obligations to Olivia’s brother. I loved that they cooked together before they became more than friends. I liked the heat in the kitchen and the other kind of heat between Olivia and Cody, also. Great heat! Awesome heat! This series is just incredible!
I loved reading Going for Four by Erin Nicholas, book four in her Just Everyday Heroes: Night Shift series, formerly the Counting on Love series. Olivia, the baby of the four Dixon Divas, is an amazing, kind, sweet, generous girl who thinks of everyone before herself! Fire Chief Cody is Olivia’s brother’s best friend but also her boss at the fire station. Their attraction sets them up for a lot of complications but because of their love and respect for their family and friends, they set strict ground rules that should keep them on the straight and narrow. Therefore, the time they spend together is watching movies, creating new desserts in the kitchen (real desserts) and all sorts of other friend stuff. None that involves kissing; or at least more than kissing, even if the temptation is strong. Chocolate chip cookies will never have the same meaning again!
Ms. Nicholas does an incredible job with Liv and Cody’s story. It’s about growing beyond how others see you or how you see yourself. It’s about speaking up for what you want. It’s about knowing you’re worth it. It’s about being yourself. It’s about being loved the way you are and the way you deserve. It’s about being part of a loving family and community. This is a hot and amazing book that I highly recommend and it’s also a must read series.
Highly entertaining, sweetly sexy, emotionally engaging and heartwarming friends to so much more romance that will leave you breathless…. Loved this romantic journey and it is my favorite of the series so far.
Olivia and Cody are the perfect couple and their is no denying the passion between them, except they have been denying it for two years. Olivia is has a huge romantic heart and is ready to have what her three older sisters have found. Cody is in love with his best friends youngest sister and is unwilling to lose her or her brother…. Could not get enough of this sweet and passionate story.
Olivia, the youngest Dixon Diva and the last to find a relationship, is in love with her brother’s best friend. And has been forbidden by her brother to even think about dating him. Her solution? Find someone else for both of them to date. What follows is a fun and sexy story of a couple trying to stay friends while falling desperately in love.
I love this series as Connor watched one sister after another fall for his friends. I can’t wait to watch him fall next!!
A very cute best friends to lovers story. Loved the opening scene. It totally set the mood for the entire book. A hot and sexy attraction that both were denying for a long time. Although I wish they had figured their issues out a bit sooner so they could have had their HEA faster but that’s just the impatience in me. Their story was cute, fun, sweet and romantic. I really enjoyed this story.
I fell head over heals in love with Cody. Cody and Olivia’s story rocked my world.. Cody is a perfect book boyfriend! I keep reading these books and think, WOW, this is the one. But they just keep getting better and better as they go on!!! So looking forward to the next one!
