Standalone enemies-to-lovers football romanceGoing deep: In football it means running down the field for a long pass. You’re serious. Committed. Unstoppable. As a wide receiver, it’s a term I’m all too familiar with. It’s who I am, at least when it comes to my career. For the past decade, football has been the only thing I’ve allowed myself to commit to. That is until a beautiful, blue-eyed … a beautiful, blue-eyed temptress steps into my limo to escort me to a charity function.
She’s strong, independent, and quick witted. Everything I want in a woman. There’s just one problem. She’s not mine for the taking. But that’s not going to stop me from winning her heart.
I’m in deep with this woman. I’m running down the field with my arms and heart open, ready for the catch. Now all I need is for her to throw the ball.

I read Going Deep while at Apollycon 2019 and sat on my bed, trying to wipe away tears so my roommate wouldn’t know I was crying. Going Deep is an emotional journey, especially for the heroine, Giselle. There was a definite attraction between the main characters, Giselle and Killian, but it takes a while for them to act on it. Giselle has had to make tough choices recently to keep her family afloat and those have impacted her relationship with her friends. Killian initially is very critical of those choices but once he learns the secrets she is hiding, he finds a way to support her and help make her life easier. Their love story is one of ups and downs as they learn to trust each other past the burning attraction between them. Giselle learns to lean on others for support without losing the core of strength that she has. This is a beautiful book with deep, complex characters who have real issues to overcome on their path to love.
Wow! What a great book! Giselle is the strong independent type. She won’t accept help from anyone. She is determined to help her family as things fall apart. No matter what that means for herself.
Killian hasn’t found the one that will keep his heart. Once he finds out more about Giselle will he see what was in front of him all along? Will the two of them be able to go the distance?
Look forward to more from this author!
4.5 Stars
After reading The Pickup I’ve been anticipating reading this one. This book was just as good. I was sucked into this story right from the beginning. I just loved Killian. He has many swoon worthy moments. Couldn’t have picked someone better for Giselle. She deserves some happiness in her life. What she has gone through in her life it hit me right in the heart and just breaks my heart. Giselle has some great people in her corner. Can’task more than that. The characters really make this book. They get you so invested in their story. I was rooting for these two through the whole book.
This book is so good!! Giselle and Killian make a great couple! They both really grow during this book and it’s great to see how perception can change as we grow up. I love the way Nikki Ash writes, it’s so easy to get sucked in and never come out!! I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Celeste!! Killian is the definition of a perfect harem member!!
Hooked from page one!
I love Nikki Ash. She always has great storylines and keeps me interested, entertained, and begging for more! But I think this is the most emotionally invested I’ve ever been in one of her books… My heart was in it with these two the entire way!
This is the second book in this phenomenal series, and is Giselle and Killian’s turn. Both of these characters are broken in their own way, but can they heal each other? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a beautifully written story which is raw, gritty, gripping, and with twists and unexpected surprises, which all lead to an emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end. I was totally hooked and intrigued, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all. In my opinion, this is the best work to date from this author!
At first, I could not stand Killian. He seemed like such a judgy jerk, and he enraged me. But wow, did that man grow on me. He and Giselle’s love story isn’t your “normal” love story. It’s a story about what happens when two broken people come together and make each other whole again. I’d definitely recommend this book.
This book is so beautifully written, I can’t stop thinking about it. I knew from the previous book that there was more to Giselle then she was showing, and oh boy was I ever right. Giselle acts tough to protect herself from anyone getting close to her but underneath her tough exterior is a beautiful soul who wants to be loved and cared for. In the beginning Killian and Giselle are not even friends but as they learn more about each other both of their walls start to crumble and they can’t help falling for one another. Their relationship is complex but there is a certain type of beauty in their relationship. I love how caring Killian is. When he wants something he goes for it and puts his heart and soul into it. I loved Giselle’s love for Alice in Wonderland, her dedication and loyalty to her friends and her vulnerability. This book pulled out every emotion in me and I didn’t want it to end. I highly recommend this book.
I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then…
I knew this book was going to be good, I could feel it based on “The Pickup”. These two were just giving me all the feels. What I didn’t know was that this book was going be spectacular! Ms. Ash definitely scored a touchdown with this story!!!!
Killian and Giselle are two characters that are going to stay with me for a long time! I just loved them both so much! They had me all over the place… this really was a love to hate kinda story, but not really if that makes sense lol.. In the beginning some of the banter really hurt me for them…. but it was only because they didn’t know each other’s stories, they were just spewing shit at each other. But then, then, then they had me freaking swooning and I couldn’t get enough of them. Seriously I couldn’t put this book down. I just had to know how it was all going to play out. There were so many touch and go moments, I wasn’t sure if they were going to make it!!!!
The story just gets better and better on each page and they made me laugh and cry and swoon, and it was hott!!!! This story was just everything and then some! I loved it and I cannot wait for Celeste’s story.
This book was awesome! After meeting Killian and Gizelle in The Pick Up I’m so happy we got their story, and what a story it was! We finally learn all about these two and what makes them tick.
Gizelle has some major walls and we learn it’s for good reason as does Killian. These two came together so perfectly Going deep reels you in from page one right on thru! Once again can’t wait for the next one from this amazing author
Going Deep by Nikki Ash
Wow! Oh wow! This is the second book in the Imperfect Love series and let me say that it is just as good as the first book!! Quite crazy turn of events kept me interest throughout! Quite emotional read. Loved! Highly recommend!
“They look deep like the bottom of the ocean, and if I’m not mistaken, they look sad, burnt out as if the light in them faded.”
“I already told you, babe. I’m in deep. There’s nobody I’d rather be broken with than you.”
Be prepared to fall in love with Going Deep!!
Nikki Ash has managed to write one of my favorite books so far this year. When a book makes you cry happy tears several times you know it’s a good one. Emotions run deep. Giselle and Killian don’t always like each other. As they get to know each other they realize they are more alike than they think. One of my favorite quotes ever from the book is this one “ when you can’t look on the bright side, I will sit with you in the dark”. I absolutely adored this story of Giselle and Killian. I never wanted it to end. I absolutely recommend it 100%.
Ok, serious talk right now. This book was everything! Two imperfect and flawed characters who fit perfectly together. Giselle was an amazing heroine with her smart mouth and stubborn attitude, who doesn’t take crap from no one. She’s strong, smart and the very definition of Independent Woman no matter what life throws at her. Killian is completely swoony although a bit of an ass at the beginning from being jaded with his past. But he’s definitely met his match when it comes to Giselle.
“Do you ever feel broken and lonely, Killian?” she asks softly. “Every damn day,” I admit. She looks up to meet my gaze and nods once. “Me too,” she whispers.
As he gets to see the different layers that is Giselle, he begins to see things differently. He’s super protective, caring and the poster boy for complete Alpha Male. Overcoming the past is a bumpy ride for the both of them and definitely not easy. So grab your munchies and some wine and enjoy the ride.
Going Deep is book 2 in the Imperfect Love Series and a complete standalone. But you definitely dont want to miss Olivia and Nick’s story either in The Pickup. Both amazingly written in dual POV with their own HEA. Nikki has definitely done it again with another must read sports romance. I cannot wait what she has in store for Celeste and Quinn in the upcoming books in the series. It’s really hard not to fall in love with these characters and their gorgeous covers for each of them. Cant wait to see what Nikki pulls outta her sleeve next!
This book stole my breath away. Talk about mind blowing with these two characters!!! Killian and Giselle knew each other thru their respective best friends that were dating and believe me they didn’t like each other at all because they looked at things differently and never got the chance to actually get to know each other. They were both broken and lonely in their own ways.
These two couldn’t stand to be nice to each other for even 5 minutes but then Killian wanted to know the real Giselle underneath all the layers after an incident. He realized that he was completely off and started admiring for how determined she was and all the struggles she carried on her shoulders. Giselle was not an easy cookie to convince. The things she was going thru was heartbreaking but she was so independent and did what she had to do. Killian was never judgmental and wanted to help her. This was a slow burn that was worth reading their development. Killian was almost perfect and Giselle was just amazing. His swooning and the things he did for her will have you with happy tears. My favorite was when he stood up for Giselle against her own best friend; talk about a man that defends what’s his. I loved that Giselle still wanted to be independent and didn’t sit back and let him help her with everything just because.
I was surprised with her job but Killian didn’t care he saw the woman behind the facade. These two by far my favorites and their epilogue is priceless and left me wanting more. The issues these two dealt with together were very heartbreaking and realistic. Love these two.
Wow! Giselle us a woman that many can relate to…hard working and willing to do anything to make their family happy even at the sacrifice of their own happiness. She has some deep hurts but keeps most of it to herself Killian is a pro football player that has hurts of his own. Together these two made me swoon! Once Kill understood Giselle, he became her knight in shining armor and she helped him make his own wounds smaller. I loved the references to Alice in Wonderland as it had personal connections to my own life. I found myself laughing and hurting with the characters as if they were right here with me. Definitely a great job and I am looking forward to so much more!
This book was yet another phenomenal book from Nikki. I loved everything about to his book and how it progressed throughout it.
Wow! This book is AMAZING! Killian and Giselle’s story is about finding the one who will love all our broken pieces. This book is such a beautiful love story that sucks you in from the start.
Killian is this beautiful specimen of man. An athletic alpha that has one of the biggest hearts you will ever read about.
Giselle wears a shield of armor protecting her heart from ever being broken. Determined to do everything on her own and never asking for help.
Meeting through mutual friends Killian gets the wrong impression of Giselle; thinking the worse of her and being a tad bit nasty. Once these two are forced to spend an evening together it was game on. The lust and attraction could no longer be denied.
I loved watching this love story unfold. Kill and Giselle are just perfect for one another. This book is filled with all the feels and I couldn’t put it down. I am so excited for Celeste book. Can’t wait!
Olivia & Nick’s best friend’s Giselle & Killian can’t stand each other. Their relationship consists of evil glares & constant bickering. Killian doesn’t trust women because of something that happened in college. He can’t stand Giselle the ice queen & how she leeches off Olivia. What he doesn’t realize is that beneath her mask of frosty layers is a selfless, stressed-out, exhausted woman with the world’s weight on her shoulders. When Killian realizes he’s been completely wrong about his perception of Giselle, he will go out of his way to help her. But how can he get the most stubborn woman to accept his help?
I love how they both help each other with their past struggles. Giselle was a strong character who did the best she could with everything that happened to her. Another amazing read & I can’t wait to read Celeste’s book!
Going Deep was a fiercely real novel, tackling some common issues and struggles with mental health. Pacing was perfect and Nikki’s writing was phenomenal, it was a book I was reading into the early hours of the morning because I was so sucked into all the angst. It was nice to see things feeding into Nick and Olivia’s story too, getting updates on how they are doing after The Pick Up. We also got a little set up of what’s to come in book 3 for Celeste’s story, another heroine that is really misunderstood. After Going Deep I cannot wait to see what is next from Nikki Ash.
Let me tell you what worked for me with this story. It starts with the book cover. Holy hotness it was done right and definitely drool worthy.
Another win is the author. She is one of my favorites her Fighting Series is AMAZING. I have been so excited to get a new series from her. EEK!
We meet Giselle and Killian in the Pickup, the first book in the Imperfect Love Series. This is their story.
Plan to deal with some hard hitting social topics. I felt like I was drowning in heartache when the storyline took on mental illness. SO GOOD! You really get a look at the financial difficulties when a family has been abandoned. I do love the fact that Killian is an NFL football player though that wasn’t a huge part of the story. Family dynamics and all its disfunction as well as relationships as a whole seems to be the foundation of this story.
Ugh It was challenging for me at times to like these characters which was not because of any huge moral objection. I just didn’t didn’t understand them. I realize this is probably more about an opinion and not anything wrong with the writing or content of the book.
Overall I this book was 3.5 stars…
I look forward to the next in this series. Happy Reading!
