He was an artist. She was his muse.To everyone in town, Abel Adams was the devil’s spawn, a boy who never should have been born. A monster. To twelve-year-old Evie Hart, he was just a boy with golden hair, soft t-shirts and a camera. A boy who loved taking her picture and sneaking her chocolates before dinner. A boy who made her feel special.Despite her family’s warnings, she loved him in secret … warnings, she loved him in secret for six years. They met in empty classrooms and kissed in darkened church closets. Until they couldn’t.
Until the time came to choose between love and family, and Evie chose Abel.
Because their love was worth the risk. Their love was the stuff of legend.
But the thing about legends is that they are cautionary tales. They are made of choices and mistakes. And for Abel and Evie, the artist and the muse, those mistakes come in the form of lights, camera, sex.

I had previously read THE UNREQUITED by this author a while back and LOVED it. So when I saw she had a new book being released I pretty much broke my finger hitting the request button. And again history has repeated itself. I LOVED this one as well. Did it blow me away as much as THE UNREQUITED did? Well not QUITE as much, no. But it was still a fantastic read.
~WRITING – PLOT – PACE~
The writing was phenomenal. The pace (for the most part) was perfect. The plot was engaging. It was well developed. It was multi-layered. It was heartbreaking. It was sweet. It was sexy. It was angsty. It had anger. It had pain. It had a ton of feels. It had redemption. The story is divided into three parts THE SIN that comprises the first 38% of the book and spans the ages of 12-18 (for the heroine) and 14-20 (for the hero). I loved this part. Watching these two kids fall in love. The discrimination aimed at Abel broke my heart. I hated that town with a passion. But even among the weeds, we got glimpses of some good caring people. Part two is THE FALL and it covers 38% – 81%. I found this part a bit slow. Nothing too bad as I was still thoroughly enthralled with the story. This is where the sexy times start. The characters grow more complex. My heart broke for each of them because the writing was on the wall and like the title implied they were headed for a fall. The last part is THE LEGAND and this was my favorite part of the book. It was super emotional. Heartbreaking. Abel’s pain as he realized what he had done was agonizing. It dripped from the pages. It broke my heart. But out of that pain rose two stronger young people. A stronger couple. And the ending for me was simply perfect.
~HERO~
ABEL…I ADORED him. He was pretty much perfect book boyfriend material. He was sweet. He was sexy. The way he was treated by the people of this town broke my heart. I wanted to hug him. I wanted to be his friend. He adored his “PIXIE” right from the start. His love for her was epic. But also obsessive. He was a very complex character. He had demons and resentment. He had this anger that at times I thought maybe the author was going in the direction of making him abusive. I struggled a bit with his character in part two. His decisions. His behavior. At times I wanted to shake him and yell “What are you doing??!!” He killed me in the last 20%. Like I said above his pain and realization at what he had done oozed off the pages. He was an amazing hero.
~HEROINE~
PIXIE (EVIE)…I ADORED Pixie as well. She was feisty. She was sweet. She wore her heart on her sleeve. She had her own demons in the form of her mother. She loved Abel with everything she had. She never wavered in that love. But she wasn’t a doormat and when a tough decision needed to be made, she acted even if it was tearing her heart to pieces. She was mature beyond her years.
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
There were quite a few secondary characters. Although none really play a HUGE part in the book, they all added a good layer of depth to the story. I LOATHED Evie’s parents. Especially her Mom, but her Dad was NO better in my opinion. I loved Evie’s friend Skylar and call me crazy but I kind of liked Duke as well. I feel like maybe there is a story needing to be told for Duke and Sky!
~HEAT LEVEL~
Medium. The sex scenes were hot and there were a good number of them through the second part of the book. Both were virgins so there was never any condoms used. I did feel at times that Abel sounded like someone with a lot more sexual experience. The dirty talking, etc. But OK, he watched a lot of porn I guess (lol).
~ANGST LEVEL~
High. This was a fairly angsty book. Most of it coming from outside sources (the town and parents) in part one. In part two and three the angst comes from the couple themselves. Their behavior and decisions. There was never any OW or OM drama.
~IN THE END~
I loved it. It was an amazing read. Fantastic well developed plot. Intriguing multi-layered characters. Heartbreak. Pain. Feels. Redemption. An epic coming of age love story that I can’t recommend highly enough. This author has earned herself a firm place on my “must read” list. I can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve for is next. Yours truly is giving this one two HUGE thumbs up.
In my eyes, Saffron has done it again. I read the blurb, but overall wasn’t sure where she would take this story. I knew it wouldn’t be conventional, but that is what makes Saffron’s work so engaging. She takes you to a place you’d never expect and once you’re there, you’re hooked. She has given me a story that was so worth reading; it filled me with sadness, happiness, anger and hope. There were parts of Abel and Evie’s journey that literally broke my heart. Their pain becomes your pain. It’s so easy to see how and why these two connected in this beautifully crafted childhood romance.
Saffron pulls people out of their comfort zone. This is not a hearts and flowers romance. This is not a story of the perfect couple, living a perfect life in their ivory tower full of riches. The characters are flawed, but that is why I’m drawn to Saffron’s work. It’s unexpected, but at the same time honest. This is a story of young love, two lost souls missing something in their lives and trying to fit their broken pieces together. Do they act young and stupid at times?! Yes, they do. They are teenagers who are so desperately in love, they can do nothing but think with their hearts.
The love and passion between Abel and Evie is extremely powerful. You have no choice but to feel their dedication to one another, it radiates off the pages. However, they are young and with young love can come conflict. Conflict comes in all different shapes and forms, so it’s no surprise that Saffron takes a turn you don’t see coming. They handle their demons on their own terms, in an unconventional way, but none the less one they choose for themselves. They are young and naïve in so many ways, but their determination to make a good life for themselves is always present.
As with any young couple in love, there is push and pull between them. They’re growing up together and sometimes you end up hurting the ones you love the most. Our young, sweet Abel turns into a strong alpha male, right before our eyes. His antics may seem extreme, but the thought of not having Pixie in his life isn’t one he can’t conceive of. She feels the same, but it’s empowering to see her make some very hard decisions about the path their relationship is taking. She’s strong for both of them.
Gah!!!!!!!! This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2018. I loved the first two books that Kent has written. Her writing style is so different than any other author I’ve read. And I love that. She writes about the love that’s a little darker, nonconventional hard topics, the kind of love that’s out there that most people don’t want to talk about. And this was definitely one of those. I found my heart in my throat and tears in my eyes throughout the entire book. This book is filled with so many emotions. And some that I could relate to because I went through some of this growing up.
Abel and Evie struggled not just with outside influences, family but also within themselves. We are human we make mistakes. Hopefully, we learn from those mistakes and grow. No one is perfect or will ever be perfect. There’s no such thing. And when you start to love as young as Abel and Evie did there will be mistakes.
This wasn’t my favorite from Kent because there were timeline issues and some things mentioned but resolved in the plot. But I did enjoy the book and will definitely continue to read her books. Because I love her words!!!!!!
Where to even begin
This is one of those romances that you need to go into
with full knowledge that it is just a touch twisted –
Nowhere close to socially or politically correct-
It is a telling that begins with innocence and light
And ends with rapture and lust
Evie is pure and innocent – A child of God
Abel is angry and bitter – A creation of two Monsters
Evie only wants to be loved – Abel only wants to love her
Evie is his – forever and ever ..
This begins from the beginning – quite literally -we have the pleasure of engaging in the full journey – enraptured as we watch the darkness envelope Evie’s light
-and I must say I found myself on the edge through most of the story – there were times the story ebbed and flowed a bit more slowly but in a way that was essential to the foundation of the story
Looking forward to future books with the secondary characters

***WARNING *** this is not your typical love story, is raw, unapologetic and it might offend some. But if you are into this sort of thing, well enjoy it, just like I did!!
Gods and Monsters, what a book. Since the first page it sucked me in. I could not put it down. This book is raw, the angst is up the roof, the love and the destruction on this pages take you on a while ride.
Evie and Abel are two kids that fall in love in a town full of gossip, hate and mistakes from the past that now reflect on them. The first part of the book made me fall in love with Able at the same time Evie was falling for him. She is his muse, in a world that they have created hidden from everyone. I felt everything right along with them. 1st love is always one to remember, but what happens when the whole world is agains you. A forbidden love, Evie is the princess of the town, the good girl and Abel is nothing but a monster that lives in the shadow of his parents and everyone judges him for that.
The second part of the book Saffron takes us on a bumpy ride. A ride so dark, raw full of resentment, revenge and destructive love. Gods and Monsters is such a fitting title Able believes he is a monster but in Evies eyes he is a God, her God.
Two kids that are so in love that when the lines get blurry they don’t know if they will survive. Will their love be so epic that it would become a legend?
I’m left speechless by all the emotions that Saffron pour onto this book. Faith, love, revenge, forgiveness, self discovery and passion make this story one to remember.
5 starts read
*I read an Advance Readers Copy and this is my honest opinion
I really don’t think that I could have loved this book any more! Evie is a goddess! Abel is a tortured, yet totally lovable, soul. I love the time span of this book. Since it starts out when they are so young, I was really reminded of how potent young love can be. The things that you do with your love when sex is not yet something you are ready for. I would image, as a writer, that is a difficult thing to toe the line of without making some people angry. (Saffron does a fantastic job of this!!!) There were more than one occasion that I found myself tearing up or just out right crying! I love how Evie sees in Abel what everyone else refuses to acknowledge. Their love is absolutely the stuff of legends! They both love with their whole heart. Despite what they are facing, they don’t seem to lose faith in each other. Even when it seems like they may be losing faith in them self!
5 stars is not enough to rate this story and all of the emotions it pulled out of me. I felt joy, sadness, anger, confusion, and of coarse I was turned on! Saffron knows just how much angst to put in there without it becoming too much! I was on the edge of my seat through the whole story just waiting to see what would try to pull them apart! I only wish that I could have spent more time in Evie and Abel’s world. I really did not want to stop reading about them.
I know I can always expect the unexpected with Saffron Kent’s novels. Her stories are uniquely creative that involves a hit of poetic beauty that I desperately crave! The author is unafraid to push boundaries and take chances. I LOVE that this book is an unconventional, taboo love story! When the author announced she was writing Gods & Monsters, I was immediately hooked from the first teaser. I had a feeling deep down in my soul that Abel was going to be a game changer. I was right. I don’t think I’ve loved another character quite like him. Abel’s feelings for his Pixie are an all-consuming love that you only see once in a lifetime! They face many obstacles in a relatively short span of time, but “their love was worth the risk. Their love was the stuff of legend.” I loved Pixie from the very first page. As soon as she saw Abel, she knew she was drawn to him in a way she’s never felt before. Their connection was so strong, so extreme, but oh so right. Please take a chance on this epic, intense love story! You’ll find yourself swept away in all the feels Saffron Kent magically produces! I cannot wait for her next one!!
OMFG! Saffron A Kent what in the world have you done to me? This story brought out an abundance of emotions deep inside of me that I never knew I had. My heart broke time after time for this beautifully tragic couple who had to endure the heartbreak of their love. I couldn’t help but find myself so deeply invested and my heart wept for them.
Abel and Evie’s story is one for the LEGENDS and will keep readers on their toes right from the very beginning. The moment I found myself at the end I wanted to cry because I didn’t want to part from their epic love story. Get ready for the ride of your life because this story will take you on a raw and emotional journey. The pain these two must have felt hiding their love for years was almost impossible and I didn’t know whether they would survive when the forces that be did everything to keep them apart.
Saffron A Kent has a unique and poetic nature to her writing and she writes like no other author on the market today. Her stories will capture your heart and hold on tight for hours, days, months and maybe even years to come.
Another incredible read by Saffron A Kent!! Gods and Monsters is the kind of book that swallows you whole, drags you through every emotions and then takes more. I loved Abel and Evie’s story so hard. Evie has an instant connection to a new “forbidden” neighbor boy. He’s considered a monster because his parents were incestuous. Evie’s mother is abusive and will stop at nothing to keep them apart. Abel has lived his life as an outcast but also feels this instant connection to Evie. She’s the only thing that keeps him sane. The story line is original and commands your interest. The characters are fully developed and realistic. Their story is sad, it tells of their hardships, spiraling lows and amazing highs. This is about a rare kind of love that only comes around to the lucky. Evie is Abel’s savior, his reason for living. He’s obsessed with having her and will stop at nothing to get her. Read this book and fall in love. I wish I could give it 1000 stars because it sure deserves it!!!
This book is just Wow. Saffron’s writing is perfect in this novel and will make you want more. There are no other words to describe it. The best I can do without giving anything is away is by saying its a cross between Adam and Eve mixed with Romeo and Juliet. It will make you feel lots of emotions like happiness, sadness, anger, love, pain, forgiveness, tears all mixed in one as soon as this story begins. Abel and Evie are so beautifully broken you cant help but love them, and there love for one another right away and you fall more in love with them as the book goes on and the characters grow and grow. The pain they go through becomes your pain. The hurt they go through becomes your hurt. You will get so sucked in you cant stop reading. Forgiveness is a big theme in this book as well, and by the end this book will have you questioning things in your own life and see things from a new light. This book is the whole package and you will not be disappointed at all.
EPIC.
TRUE LOVE.
POETIC.
LOVE CONQUERS ALL.
LYRICAL.
THE STUFF OF LEGENDS.
Those are just SOME of the words that come to mind when I think of Abel and Evie’s love journey. WARNING: If you are looking for a “hearts and flowers” love story that’s safe, this story is NOT for you..
Gods & Monsters is about love in all of it’s stages. It’s not all happy and it’s not all perfect. It might just bring you out of your comfort zone, it might not. But what it will do is bring you on a journey of imperfect love with Abel and Evie. I’ve never met characters quite like these two. And THAT is what I enjoy most about Saffron Kent’s writing. I never know what to expect, and I am often left speechless. This is why I read romance. I don’t want perfect and predictable. I want to experience something for the first time. I want to be taken on a ride. I want my imagination to soar. I want to feel everything the characters feel. I want to become invested in their lives. THAT is why I read romance.
Poetically written in only a style that Saffron can achieve, Gods & Monsters has taken me on a journey that I will remember for a long time. Abel and Evie’s story is not for the faint of heart. Because their love is the stuff of legend.
Evangeline “Evie” Hart starts us off with a very upfront discussion with her friend. It may have you thinking about your own teenage experiences. She also eye “meets” someone and I get the impression that they were destined to be in the same place at the same time. Evie acts as our eyes into her world and those around her. Abel Adams is a young man that we first experience through those eyes.
There are scenes that you could take one of two ways. It’s up to you in how you decide you to take it. One thing that shocked me was that Amazon had this book tagged as inspirational. There are subtle messages here but I don’t think inspirational is one of them and that gives a false message to readers. With some of the subject matter, I wouldn’t tag it as teen either – new adult is fine but if you want your teen to read please make sure to read it yourself first.
There’s a saying that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” and how this story is interpreted is in the mind of the reader. There was no mention of triggers at the beginning of the book, at least that I could see, so you may want to think of that when you are making the decision of should I or shouldn’t I. You need to know there are mentions of abuse – at least that is how it comes across to me – that for some might make them uncomfortable.
Don’t expect this to be a young love happy story – the adults make sure of that. It is a story that is told in the first person, which is a good thing because you “hear” their thoughts this way. The chapters are not identified as to whose thoughts we’re listening to but you’ll have no trouble identifying whether it’s Evie or Abel – the author was very good at that. I’m on the fence as to whether to tell you if the ending was happy. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice ending and it fits in with what I’ve learned about these characters. But after getting to know them I didn’t feel as if the ending did them justice – as if there’s more to the story.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This is a story of forbidden love but it is also so much more!
Evie has always tried to do as her parents want her to do. Her mother is extremely critical and hard to please, especially for a free spirit such as Evie. When Abel moves in next door, she cannot ignore the draw she feels towards him. She knows what her parents and most everyone in town feels, he is the devil’s spawn, a monster. But Evie knows that he can’t help who his parents were or the sins they committed. Evie can’t help but risk the wrath of her parents to befriend the lonely boy.
After discovering he feels the same connection to her, they decide to keep their budding friendship a secret. Over the next couple years, as Evie and Abel mature and grow closer and a romantic relationship begins. But just as the two are moving from friends to more, Evie’s parents find out and forbid her to be anywhere near him and make all kinds of threats towards Abel. Even though they are barely old enough to be on their own, Evie and Abel are too much in love to be torn apart so they run away to start a new life.
But the problems for these two don’t end there. Although they love each other immensely, they are young and human, making mistakes they may not be able to come back from. Will these two have a HEA or will it be too much to overcome?
This is my first read by Saffron A. Kent and I am a huge fan!! I’ll definitely go back and read her previous works. I loved Evie and Abel and seeing their relationship grow. They loved so hard but weren’t immune to making mistakes and hurting each other at times. I had so many feels with this book and hated to see it end! There were unexpected twists and turns that kept my interest from start to finish. I highly recommend this book!
Having previously read The Unrequited and A War Like Ours , I knew I was in for an emotional journey, unconventional characters and a wonderful writing style in this one as well. But nothing could prepare me for the unique turn of events, the unpredictability, the immense hurt that engulfed me and the sheer anger and sadness at the unfairness surrounding Abel and Evie’s lives.
It was the unexpected that kept me glued to my Kindle, witnessing and feeling their young, innocent love grow and blossom amidst the colorless life, trying to break free from the toxicity of a small town, withstanding hardships and obstacles. But, just like in real life, there are beliefs, thoughts and events that shape and follow us, that influence our behavior no matter how hard we try to fight against them. That’s exactly what happens to Abel and Evie – the poisonous burden of society seeps into their relationship and leads them into the darkness.
This story is definitely not a perfect romance where the characters say and do all the right things. But that’s the kind of story I want to read. Touching. Thought provoking. Unforgettable.
What happens when you read a book you cant stop turning the pages and devour it in one day?? You read it again of course! Gods and Monsters was that book for me. Right from the beginning this story not only captured my full attention, but Evie and Abel managed to capture my heart. Saffron Kent has outdone herself and showed off major skills with this beautiful coming of age story and its uniqueness.
She was the town’s princess and he was the town’s monster. A monster that never should’ve been born. She loved nothing more than to run barefoot through the fields and sit and write in her tree house. Abel loved nothing more than the feel of pencil to draw or the feel of the camera in his hands, while keeping his eyes on and only her. She was his only friend, and he was her most cherished secret. In a small town that thrives on nosey judgment and gossip, keeping they’re secret is anything but easy.
Then Saffron gives us a curveball and their love story takes a turn through darker corners. Two beautifully broken souls take their strength from the immense blind love one has for the other. But is love enough, even when it’s so much?
“He won’t consciously hurt me. So I’ll hurt myself. I’ll suffer the pain until it gets good . It’s nothing new, anyway . It’s our love story.”
And yet broken they remain while they still hold on to grudges and so much hate from their past. What will it take for them to move on? Especially when making it back in one piece in the end isn’t guaranteed. But that’s life. Embrace what comes at you, the beautiful with the ugly.
Gods and Monsters is one of those books that will make you see things differently by the time you read The End. Honestly anything I say about Gods and Monsters will not do it justice. It’s not just a great read, but an experience you must have. I’m am extremely excited that Saffron is also giving us Sky’s book! Day made!! Loved her from the beginning and can’t wait to see what she and Duke are up to!!
First love, forbidden love, a bond that can’t be broken is what this book was about. A great read about overcoming the obstacles that try to keep two soulmates apart. Highly recommend this book!!
Shameless, Reckless love, a little painful, a lot Glorious
This is the second book by Saffron that I’ve read and loved. Her exploration of some touchy subjects has me astounded here. Looking at some delicate issues she’s touched upon, like small town bias and some big city anonymity, that drives people to rebel against the norm gives layers to the story and as you delve in them you come out stronger and surer in your faith. Could be Faith in God, a supreme being, yourself, your religion or your love . Faith being the driving force behind this story where the Town Princess, Evie, who’s firmly esconsed in a deeply religious family in the Bible-belt and when the town is “invaded” by the Monster Child, how people see their core values shaking, brings the story to a twist.
This is a tale of Obsessive love that starts in a tree house, high up and away from the realities of the ground. Evangeline Elizabeth Hart “Evie” has built a haven for herself. Yellow sunshine room, a secret hiding place that shuts out the cruelties of everyday life. Her strict and harsh Mother, a subserviant and docile father, their restrictive church and neighbourhood and some pretty close minded families, make up Prophetstown in Iowa. One day a rusty truck shatters their peaceful Godly existence and out jumps Abel Adams, the child who shouldn’t have been born.
But he was, and here he is! Angry, messed up and carrying a block on his shoulder. My heart was breaking for him, how can a child be held responsible for his existence and ostracized for it !
The legend of David Adams and Delilah Evans.
called the dark times, when love had died and the purity of it was stained.
The product-Abel , who’s shunned and avoided by the entire town population, but who captures Evie’s young heart with his smile, sketches and camera !
I do realize something. Something pretty epic. Abel Adams is a god. Because only gods can stop time and freeze moments, if they want to. Only gods can do what he does with a camera.
Young Heart Eyes make him her own Personal God to be worshipped and loved in secrecy, with gay abandon. The nubile couple is just a touch ahead of the vicious hands of the stuck-up prejudiced townsfolk and one day they aren’t!!. Cruel hands tear them apart and how !
My heart broke at this point.
The story makes a full turn and like water finding a way about, rushes past this town and people and moves in a new direction.
With a new resolve and new dreams they break old shackles and sprout wings.
“Fuck God, Pixie. Fuck the world. We’ll be our own gods. You be mine and I’ll be yours.”
Fate takes them to a place where they can dissappear in the crowds.
Invisible. Anonymous. Untraceable!
I have a feeling that New York City has a place for everyone : the runaways, the misunderstood, the lovers, the strugglers, the drifters, the successful. In this city, our love will grow. This is our adventure now.
The new world brings new hopes, new dreams, new life but the grass is not always greener on the other side and harsh reality slaps them in the face !
A legend of Abel and his Pixie! Pixie saw him as her God, Abel knew of the monster within him, But they were mere mortals.
Humans.
And humans make mistakes, they hurt and Hurt People hurt people
This story gives me shivers as it is eerily similar to the First Couple , Adma & Eve
“They got cast out of the garden because he was stupid enough to eat the apple.”
Abel loves Evie crazily, madly, deeply and it becomes too big for his heart. The monstrosity of his love, fueled by revenge just clouds his mind and intent and it balloons to the point that his perception changes. What should’ve been in his eyes gets captured in the lens for all the world to see. And in the process, love becomes toxic.
I’ve sat a while after I finished because my heart is full yet I’m struggling with words on how to justly review the book
I’m seeing some negative reviews and honestly I get it. Each person reads differently and I walked away with something unique from the book and that is probably enough for me. The wording and the pace is very authentic. At no point did i feel that this was inconceivable or unbelievable.
So the lesson learnt is -Forgiveness !
A French philosopher once said that every man is born a blank slate. No one is either good or bad, not until they come in contact with other people. Only then, a man takes shape and becomes something, a monster or a god. Often times, both. That’s the beauty of being a human. You can be whatever you want to be. You can be touched by things: anger, hate, envy, love, lust. You can forgive, forget, hold on, let go. You can do anything; there are endless possibilities.
And Pixies Immense Unshakeable Love makes the Monster, into her God.
A poignant journey of a girl from womanhood to motherhood and a story about a golden-haired boy. People called him the monster but a blue-eyed girl thought he was her god. He was neither. He was only a boy, who drew, who wanted friends, and whose favorite fruit was an apple. But most of all, he was a boy who felt things deeply. He was a boy who loved , with everything that he was.
5 ” Apple Pie ” Stars
Who are we when we look inside
After reading Saffron A Kent’s The Unrequited and loving the way she represented the love story between two seemingly unlikeable characters, I was intrigued to read her upcoming – and now available – release, Gods & Monsters. The teasers did a brilliant job of not giving away this coming of age story, a romance between two people who shouldn’t have fallen in love but who’s connection was too powerful to be ignored.
Abel comes to Evie’s town one afternoon – moving in next door – and brings with him a past that their small town hasn’t forgotten and yet Evie is drawn to him in a way she can’t explain. What happens over a number of years is a love affair that has to be hidden, a fight against busy-bodies and family and eventually, a chance for Abel and Evie to finally have everything they ever wanted.
For me, the second part of this story really dragged. The first part is pure poetry – with gorgeous language and beautiful descriptions of Abel and Evie falling in love despite the odds.
“Abel Adams is a god. Because only gods can stop time and freeze moments, if they want to. Only gods can do what he does with a camera.”
But the second part is long, dragged out and takes a while to really pack a punch. I kept waiting for something to happen – a wait I was impatient for – but when everything explodes, it’s almost worth the wait. The third and final part is exactly what I wanted this book to be. It’s heartfelt, painful, full of anger and learning and beauty. I couldn’t put it down from that point. I had to know what happened and it was here that Saffron really had Abel and Evie shine. The ending was what made the second part bearable, because it is all kinds of emotionally charged, incredibly written words that will have you holding your breath until the last few pages. That is until I realised that the big incident that sparks Evie and Abel’s downfall is never really acknowledged again… and it’s a power imbalance in their relationship that really needs apologising for.
Evie and Abel are one hell of a couple and I’ll be forever grateful I experienced their relationship through this book. Gods and Monsters can maybe coexist after all.
