I reached a point that I could not put this book down. I thought I had it figured out. . . . but I hadn’t.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
Go Home, Afton is one of these most thrilling novellas I have ever had a chance to read. It is so different, from the point of view of Afton, a girl with dark desires and how she chooses to justify them.
While reading this book, I felt torn because part of me says, you really shouldn’t love Afton, but I really do. She is such an interesting and unique character. She has a wonderfully sarcastic attitude, a dark desire to kill, but underneath there is still an innocence. I am fascinated by her. One of the most compelling leads I’ve read in a while.
The mystery in this story is captivating. The idea of The Man in Shadows is creepy, and intense. Afton has her suspicions of who he is, and I certainly see that it could be true, but I also wonder if the author is taking us down a twisting road.
Brent Jones’ writing is fantastic. The dialogue he has created is gripping, and so realistic, I found each character to stand out as a unique individual. Great characters makes for great novels.
I have to admit, I haven’t really stopped thinking about this novella since I finished reading. I’m obsessed and I need to know more. I cannot wait for the rest of the series!
I’m so thrilled to tell you how much I loved this fabulous thriller!! Go Home, Afton is the first of four books in the Afton Morrison Series, a serial thriller with an antihero of sorts as the main character.
The Author, Brent Jones, WOW….I’m just completely blown away by his work!! He obviously put a lot into this serial thriller and it shows!!!! The characters are wonderful!!! The MC is a very complex character herself, but even many of the side characters are really well done!! I can’t wait to see more of them all in the next few books!! I’m a very character driven reader, and I just ate this right up!!
If thrillers are your thing, you will love this! It is a serial thriller, but I do know that he plans to release them pretty quickly. The second one is out on August 7th, third is September 17th, and fourth is October 29th. In fact, Books two and three are already up on amazon for preorder!
Highly recommended, FIVE AMAZING STARS!!!!
This short novel, or long novella, is a quick and enjoyable read. It’s the opening story in the Afton Morrison thriller series of five books. I’d never heard of the book or author Brent Jones and picked it up on a whim, after reading the book blurb on one of the book promo giveaways that I subscribe to. Glad I did!
This is the story of Afton, an intelligent, quiet children’s librarian with a dark side and a great, acerbic sense of humor. She is our narrator, albeit unreliable at times because Afton has some personality disorders brought on by earlier life trauma. Afton tells us she is a survivor, not a victim. I love the internal dialogue in this book, and the conversations she has with her… Let’s just say that Afton has a few conflicting traits making her the story’s hero and anti-hero.
Afton is looking for revenge– against bad guys and assholes. She plans and plans meticulously about taking a particular man’s life– until it begins to fallapart.
The writing and editing are top notch. The story is fast-paced and drew me in right from the start. The characters are well-developed in a short amount of time. I likedbeing inside the mind of a sarcastic woman with morals, that still wants, and plans to kill someone. The ending was good, not a cop-out like so many (disappointing) thrillers – but/and, the narrator lets you know the story continues. Brent Jones has hooked me. I’ll be picking up the rest of the series.
It’s available in all the ebook formats (Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, etc). The first four books of the series are available as one collection; The Afton Morrison Series, from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. The audiobook was a finalist in the Thriller category for the 2019 Independent Audiobook Awards.
