If you find your life in turmoil, grab a cozy mystery to pass the time and to forget your woes. This book is FREE, and I found the mystery to be a good read as it remained true to its genre.
To be honest, I preferred this author’s crime drama to the cozy mystery, but you be the judge.
Wish I read sooner.Owned book for awhile.
Extremely nice job educating you on gluten free, allergy, flours , cooking/ baking . Suggestion for tips to convert recipes.
Wonderful cost mystery and more. Great cave scene that is intense. Love the identity issue blow off like no big deal, so what. Kudos!!!!!!!!
Admit that I never suspected the bad person was actually hoping character would be in next book. Had someone else in mind. Nice job in fooling me.
Give OB a nice pat for me. Cannot wait to learn more of Erin’s history.
Five stars because it’s a decent mystery centering around a small town where everyone seems to know everybody’s business–typical cozy mystery. Half way through, I had to question the protagonist’s thought process as well as the author’s agenda. The main character, Erin, who seemed very open to different lifestyles suddenly becomes unsettled and mildly antogonistic to another character, William Andrews, due to his appearance and life choices–judgemental to put it bluntly.
I do my best not to “judge a book by it’s cover.” Erin supposedly does this, too, by opening her heart and home to Vic. Yet simultaneously, she “gently” jabs at women who attend church, believe in God, and get together to have tea and share their thoughts. At the same time, she is openly hostile to a man who dresses badly and doesn’t have a 9-to-5 job. For me, the overall characterization of Erin seemed out-of-sync and off putting.
Even though I gave a 5-star ranking, I would not recommend spending an afternoon with Erin and her out-of-chacter hypocrisy. I received a copy of this book for free via Amazon Kindle and all opinions are mine.
Gluten-free Murder – a review by Rosemary Kenny
No sooner has Erin re-opened her late Aunt Clementine’s former tea-room as the specialist, gluten-free bakery of the title, she’s forced to close it again – by the police. Why is that necessary?
Who’s the victim? Why are they believed murdered?
Who’s been trespassing in the new bakery?
Gradually more people are turning up from among Angela’s so-called friends, who didn’t really like her and Erin must decide whether to reveal what she knows to the police, or keep quiet.
What else made Angela more likely to be killed?
As Erin’s puzzling how to clear her own name and learning more about the locals and her customers in Bald Eagle Falls, elusive facts, clues and red-herrings lead Erin and her new live-in housemate and shop manager, Vic, into unexpected territory, from which there could be another fatal outcome.
Why is an old map involved? What does it show?
How will Auntie Clem’s – and the late Angela’s – nieces, save not only themselves but the newest business in town?

I never give 1 star to any book, even if I am not hooked right off and just move on to something else. The reason for the 1 star is because the main character made such an insulting statement about profiling it made me stop reading and delete the book from my kindle after 2%. Don’t know why any thinking editor would have let that slip by. I will and have read other books from this author, but this one is a hard pass.
Great read ~ Characters were well developed and not ordinary. Liked the interaction which felt more normal than many of this type of book. At one point our heroine stepped into it with no lead-up which was a little startling at first but actually did a much better job of putting you in the scene than a lot of explanation would have done. Plus kept you guessing which is always good!
I loved this mystery mostly because I loved Erin, the main character. She is caring without being mushy, and she is smart without being perfect.
The story itself is engaging, and while I had some suspicions about the murderer, I wasn’t sure until the end.
I’ll definitely be reading more in this series.
It’s a sweet murder mystery and introduces the town and people of Bald Eagle Falls.
This book is about a woman who inherits a business from an aunt and turns it into a specialty bakery. She gets an assistant who is homeless and disowned by her family. Unfortunately, she discovers the town has another bakery and other business owners tell her not to open. The other bakery owner is not popular with other business owners but is feared. The rival baker pays a visit to her bakery and ends up dead in her bathroom due to an allergic reaction. The baker decides to investigate because she does not want to go out of business.
Good cozy mystery.
I liked the Gluten-Free aspect of the bakery. It was a new twist on the bakery theme.
Great first book in a series. I love the MC and her sidekick. I felt very maternal/protective of her sidekick. The end was clever and I didn’t see it coming. The final confrontation was a bit longer than I thought necessary, but it was well written. I’ll read more in this series.
My first read by this author but definitely not my last. Just a hint of a blossoming romance and loads of laughs with some interesting twists and turns. One spot I thought I must have skipped reading a section (I didn’t) but it soon panned out.
This was a fun, easy to read, light=hearted cozy mystery. I throughly enjoyed it and would read more by this author. I figured out who had committed the murder early on in the book, but wanted to know how the story unraveled.
I did not like a few things this book addressed. I won’t mention to ruin the book for you readers. Other than that I did enjoy it. I figured out the murderer before the end.
Good Plot
Great story line!
This is the first of PD Workman’s books I’ve read, and it certainly won’t be the last. The author has the ability to pull you into her story and keep you firmly rooted there until the end. Her characters are interest and have depth. She isn’t afraid to explore the areas of our society that many would rather sweep under the rug. Instead she uses them in the story to create tension and believable characters. The author built the tension at the ending that had me holding my breath. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more in this series.
Nice cozy mystery with a couple of twists.
loved it and the author
