It’s just that good. Great follow up to the first I.D. book.
J.D. Robb books are always great. Love her characters from the beginning of her series. And each book are always entertaining. If you like cop related stories or who done it’s or murder mysteries these books are great. Very strong lead characters. Nicely written. Great reading all around. Been reading her books for years and never had a bad book
Another great read by J D Robb
Nora Roberts/J.D. is a fantastic writer. The future world she has created is so believable & authentic. Love this series.
I love the In Death Series I’ve bought a read up to 43. Always a great mystery with something going on that keeps ypu hooked in.
This series is not for the faint of heart. Gritty New York police procedural with bad language and great sex. All the books are more than worth it.
LOVE this series! the mysteries themselves are outweighed by the growing relationships.
I’m trying to read all the JD Robb books!
Love this series – Eve and Roark are great, as are the rest of the characters
All of the “in Death” books are outstanding. Great characters, great mysteries, fascinating science fiction details.
I love Eve’s gang of misfits who make a great team. Whether the first novel or the 21st, I always enjoy the characters and the heat of the group.
good story too much sex the story and action can stand on their own. always reed j.d. robb. books are always worth my time
it’s Eve Dallas. you know whether you like them or not
If J.D. Robb writes it, I will read it. Love her work.
Audiobook: Narrator – Susan Ericksen
This narrator does an excellent job of the various characters. All distinctive, clear, understandable when characters change. I especially love her accented voice for Roarke. Amazing job!
Boy, my heart really hurt for Roarke due to Eve’s inability to go all in with him emotionally. Everything is about the job for her as well so that adds another element of separation although Roarke is so understanding about it. I wanted to smack her upside the head for not snatching him up and holding on tight.
’The simple fact was, he needed the one thing she had refused him. A commitment.’
And then…well then, we get all the steps that move Eve from that emotionally cold place to a place where she could embrace this new wonderful in her life. I couldn’t help but sigh with pleasure and fall even more in love with Roarke for not holding her “pushing him away” against her.
I’d like to say that I absolutely love Eve, but I’m still struggling some with her character. I don’t usually connect well with heroines who are all about the job and the job being one that makes them a tough, kick tail so-and-so. But I’m trying and I’m not giving up yet. Not sure I’ll make it too far into the series because, again…50 books! However, I love Roarke (thank you Sarah for pushing me to try!) and he’s worth carrying on for a while.
I both listened and read this book as I had it in audio when I was able to borrow it from the library. Perfect timing
Glory in Death is book two in the futuristic In Death series, and was just as entertaining as book one.
Summary:
Advances in technology and the medical field have made it possible to weed out any violent hereditary traits. Unfortunately, human nature is human nature and murder still happens. No one knows this better than Lieutenant Eve Dallas. She speaks for the dead on a regular basis, and she’s good at her job. So when the first body is found lying on the rain-soaked sidewalk and a second is found at her apartment building, Eve has no trouble connecting the two cases. Both victims are smart, beautiful, and wildly successful in their respective fields. But who wants them dead? And why? Eve will have to delve deep into their glamorous lives, complicated families and even their intimate relations with men of wealth and power to find a killer. But can she weed through the long suspect list, a list that includes her own lover, Roarke, before another death occurs?
*************************
I’ve heard about this series often in my years involved in the book world, and most recently from my closest reading buddy, JadeShea. I have been intrigued by the series, especially with its longevity, but never felt the overwhelming inclination to read it right away. Now, after picking up book two right after book one, I can say I’m hooked. From the first sentence, I was pulled into this new world of advanced technology and I was happy to stay there. Eve is an excellent heroine. I love her independence, smarts, and fierce sense of duty. She serves the dead and takes that job seriously. Eve is a complex woman with a difficult past. While we didn’t get a whole lot more detail on that part of her life, I felt she had quite a bit of growth in this book. It’s not easy and she’s still uncomfortable, but she feels and lets honest emotion out. She’s starting to open up while learning more about herself and who she wants to be. I adore Eve’s relationship with Roarke. There are some rough patches to be sure, but in the end, their connection is too strong to deny. The steam factor is high, but my favorite aspect of their romance is that Roarke is leading the charge, so to speak. I love how he pursues Eve, showing her that they can trust their vulnerabilities to each other. This shows Roarke in only the best light as a strong, confident, supportive man. I also think that his openness allowed Eve to be the same, letting her admit that she needed him, too. Overall, I enjoyed Glory in Death, even if it wasn’t as exciting as book one. There is still so much more to Eve, Roarke, and the other recurring characters, that I’m looking forward to learning. Feeney and Mavis are a couple of my favorites, and I hope to see a lot more of them in future books. I also really appreciate the futuristic aspect. Despite it being an advanced time with advanced technology, it never overwhelms nor does it overshadow the mystery. In fact, it supports the mystery and maybe even enhances it. The mystery itself was entertaining, even if I had an inkling early on as to who the killer was. I did experience doubt here and there, which helped keep me turning the page. I get a good mystery with a hint of romance, and it’s perfect. I was surprised at the ending, though. With the amount of books in this series and no signs of J.D. Robb slowing down, I never anticipated the characters to move so fast. I’m very much looking forward to the rest of the series to see just where we’ll go.
I have all the J.D.Robb books
I fell in love in love with these characters.
I read all of the JD Robb books as they come out. I love the characters, the emotions of the detectives, the futuristic elements thrown into the books and the relationship between Dallas and her husband and those she works with. All of the books draw you into their relationships and how Dallas solves each crime.
Love the characters
