In 1861, New Mexico Territory is swept by change as the United States erupts in civil war. Federal troops are recalled to the east, leaving the way open for Confederates to invade New Mexico and capture its resources on the way to the ultimate prize: Colorado gold!
Three young people are caught up in the conflict: Alastar O’Brien, a Colorado miner turned soldier; Laura Howland, a young lady from … lady from Boston, recently orphaned; and Jamie Russell, a shop clerk from Texas serving as a quartermaster. The maelstrom of war brings them together in a clash of ambition, patriotism, and the simple need to survive.

Well researched. Nice insight into human nature. Fleshed out characters.
This book takes you into New Mexico at the start of the Civil War and amongst the troops on both sides as they battle with their honor as much as they battle with their enemies! It took me a while to get into the story, but it soon pulled me in! The narration was good. The narrator might work on the women’s voices a bit, but overall they were …
Interesting book set in the western U.S. during the Civil War – something I never really considered ever before. Strong characters (both military & civilian) on both sides & well written.
This is by far the best book I’ve read in years and was anxious to read the sequel that was previewed at the end of this book but sadly Barnes and Noble does not offer it in the e edition. If and when you do I will purchase it.
This was a real eye-opener for me as I was unfamiliar with Civil War action in the southwestern part of the US. So much of the geographic area in the story was territorial only – the area had not actually been brought into the Union. The characters – some fictional, some not – did a great job of telling the story of the people of the day. The …
It is bit of a twist on Civil War stories but very good. Slow to get going but the characters develop very well and pull you in.
ONE OF THE BEST HISTORICAL BOOKS I HAVE READ ON A SECTION OF THE COUNTRY DURING THE CIVIL WAR! EXCELLENT!!
Glorieta Pass is based on battles during the Civil War that happened out west. It was interesting because I was not aware of that part of history. It does have interesting characters and some are based on people. There are a few times when the reading becomes tedious, but otherwise a good book.
This book was an interesting read with easy to believe characters with the back drop to the Civil War. Realistic enough that it could have actually taken place. Good rainy day read.
A lot of battle info
This was a good series. Love the historical aspects. Seemed very realistic at times when the location was places I have been.
Great read for those who love military campaigns.
I’d always wondered about Civil War battles in the west and this was an entertaining way to get some information. I appreciated having characters from both sides of the dispute and especially the delimna faced by Federal officers of staying with the Union or joining the Confederacy. Definitely a “good read.”
Didn’t finish, not clean descriptions
As a history buff I enjoyed the tie in of the characters with real people and places. I learned about a part of the Civil War not often mentioned in other books.
Fabulous!! I loved these books! And the historical information was new to me. We don’t hear much about how the civil war affected the southwest so I was so pleased with these informative and entertaining books!
Civil War era in an area of the United States that has little written about the conflict. Fighting in New Mexico Colorado and Texas is brought to life in Glorieta Pass. Historical fiction at its finest.
I found it very disjointed. Found it hard to follow the p!it.
This is a great Civil War story based on actual facts. The characters are well developed and quite interesting. The author gives an insight into hos things may have been in the western states during the civil war period. I enjoyed reading about the moral dilemma facing the West Point officers in their choosing to fight for the Confederates or the …
This story was so boring I could not finish it. Perhaps it was me and someone else would find it interesting.
