First he took me captive. Then he took me as his mate.
Since I saw him fight in the arena, I have dreamed of him at night. Dreams I blush just to think about. But never did I imagine him carrying me off as his prisoner, spanking me into shameful submission, and then claiming my virgin body so roughly I screamed with every savage climax.
Rager is no ordinary gladiator. He is a Muharib Warrior, a … ordinary gladiator. He is a Muharib Warrior, a fearsome, terrifying beast, and when my father tried to have him killed he broke free of his chains and took me captive. I thought I would be nothing more than hostage, a bargaining chip to secure his escape, but I was wrong.
He has decided to keep me. He has decided I am his mate.

Serena’s Father Arenius Celcum Horacius and Wylder are two very evil men that have brought despair to their city. Now two men Rager and Sayk both Gladiators will try to bring peace to their city. Serena who Rager kidnaps, and Janet who loves Sayk, are the women who bring love into their lives. This story kept me turning pages I had to know what was going to happen. A story that is well worth reading. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is one hot and steamy story. I loved reading it. The premise is unique and very creative. These characters really make you want to care about what happens to them. I loved the world building, good sci-fi starts with great world building and this story has it. An enjoyable read from start to finish.
To me, this is a intense, adventurous Sci-Fi alien romance with a well-paced intriguing plot filled with unexpected situations/events. The characters have fairly complex personalities & are portrayed as captive individuals held by different circumstances although one of them takes a stand & by deviously using the other one as a hostage in order to escape, in particular I liked how the relationship evolved between the two of them.
There is: a young woman “Serena, with a cruel & manipulative father (Arenius)” is taken as a captive by a Muharib Warrior/Gladiator (Rager) when her father tries to have him killed, a fabled city (Tartarus), a despicable man (Wylder), a commander of the Tartarus security forces (Sayk), various kind of aliens, a unwanted arranged marriage, action, adventure, drama, intrigue, suspense, deceit, betrayal, treachery, a revolution, danger, threats, enemies, conflict, violence, defiance, punishment, discipline, manipulations, misunderstandings, justice, steamy scenes, contentment, love & a satisfying conclusion.
An excellent story that holds your interest! Whether you are reading this for the excellent plot, the dynamic characters, the hot sex, or the twisted love story, you will not be disappointed in how this book covers all of those things. Serena and Eager were perfect for each other and I’m just glad they didn’t die! Her father though, that’s a piece of work that was horrifically described and almost impossible to imagine that he actually shares blood with the heroine. At times brutal, the story will stick with you for a while after you’ve finished reading it.
Rager And Serena’s Story Introduces An Interesting World With Fascinating Races. There Is Plenty Of Danger As The Couple Tries To Reach The Legendary Tartarus, And Rager Finds Time For Discipline And Steam Along The Way!
Serena Alania Horacius, twenty-three, is finally home after being shuffled off to boarding school when she was five, shortly after her mother’s death. At her age marriage is long overdue, and her father seems to be making plans. It has been a lonely life. She hasn’t experienced what it feels like to be loved or cared for beyond her status as a noble-born girl. And now that she has been back for two weeks in Villea, the Valcan capital, it seems apparent that her father won’t be a source of love, either. Her father is Governor of planet Valcan, but it is on the backs of his army of gladiators that he became one of the richest owners in the Galactic Empire. The sport sickens Serena, yet she is expected to sit at her father’s side – a trophy not so unlike the gladiators whose lives he grows rich from. Despite her distaste for the sport, however, one legendary gladiator has appeared in her dreams at night since she first saw him in the arena.
Rager, probably in his thirties, has survived an incredible ten years in the arena fighting for Arenius Horacius. He was once a famed general back when his race fought valiantly for independence in the Hundred Years War against the Galactic Empire. But their will could not forever compensate for their small number, and Rager was one of only a few Maharib to survive the last battle. Today there are few of his kind remaining. Maharib are a towering warrior race with feline attributes. They are lethal and emotionless fighters, and Rager was one of the best. Rager knows there are only two ways to leave the arena behind – death or escape. He has thus been quietly gathering bits of information over the years and devising an escape plan.
When Rager finally puts his escape plan into action, he hadn’t anticipated leaving with Arenius’s daughter. And he hadn’t anticipated being so attracted to her. He plans to leave her behind once at a safe distance, but she is set on her own escape. She is an enticing mix of sweet and sassy, open and defiant, which happens to be exactly what a Maharib most desires in a woman, as the opportunity to discipline a wayward mate is a cherished pleasure.
Serena feels guilty for her attraction to Rager. He makes her angry and heats her up at the same time. She definitely shouldn’t like it when he treats her like a child and spanks her. But when she starts to sense that he might be the first person to ever really care for her, she doesn’t shy away.
The couple has a long journey before they are safely away from her father, and they both would make a valuable bounty were they to fall in with the wrong people. Serena boldly tries to help Rager when she sees the opportunity, willing to risk her own safety. But that means defying Rager. Rager is furious when Serena defies him. She doesn’t trust that him, putting them both at risk. There is plenty of danger as the couple tries to reach the legendary Tartarus and catch a ride to a remote part of the galaxy, and Rager finds time for discipline and steam along the way. The couple achieves a brief happy ending.
Rager and Serena’s story introduces an interesting world with fascinating races. It is well-written. The plot is fairly simple yet there are twists and turns that keep it interesting. The characters are nicely developed. Rager really grows on you as you learn more about his past and the history of his race. He is very good with Serena (spanking aside). Serena’s character is a little weaker, but her devotion to Rager is sweet. There are interesting supporting characters introduced, making one wonder if some might have their own story, such as Sayk and Doc. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Rager and Serena. I rate this book four stars.

Sexy and engaging read
—>>> Rager is the exalted champion of Valcan, owned by Arenius Celcum Horacius, gladiator owner. But apparently not indispensable, as evidenced by his last fight in the arena with incredible odds stacked up against him to come out of it alive. But Rager has been planning his escape from his life as a slave, and for once, he has luck on his side, i.e. the best insurance policy to ensure it in the form of Arenius’ daughter Serena taken as his hostage.
“The only way to escape the arena is to die or to run.” The statement was simple, but the truth behind the words was cruel. “I chose to run.”
However, he was not prepared for his heart to be taken in return by this woman whose appearance was deceptive, and it is soon apparent she will require his help in order to avoid the life her manipulative father had already designed for his own profits. Sexy and engaging read!
Thoughly enjoyed reading this fantastic story. I really enjoy reading books from this author ,her books are hot women are sassy and the men….strong musceled and protective of their women….
Serena didnt really like watching men fight but was there because she had to. The man of her dreams is fightening, Rager who belonged to her father. She really wanted to escape from her father for he really was an evil man. But before she knows truely what is happening she is held captive by Ragar himself, together they are headed for the elusive Tartarus. But on the way Serena becomes Ragars mate and the question is will they survive finding Tartarus or is it just a myth?
Very intense, full of danger and action and intrigue. I really enjoyed the imagery in this book. It’s a mix of Ancient Roman and high tech scifi. I loved the descriptions of the different types of aliens, very vivid and colorful! And the different environments, not just on one planet but others as well – very imaginative and well thought out. Rager is intriguing – an ultimate alpha completely devoted to his mate. Serena is at turns sweets and feisty, determined and submissive. The chemistry between the two is explosive. While the book starts out just Serena and Rager, they make some friends, good friends, that are intriguing in their own right. I’m looking forward to more stories in this universe, hopefully with cameo’s of Rager and Serena.

Things aren’t exactly as they seem for Rager and Serena as this tale begins. And neither of them is entirely what the other expected either. They start off as enemies, or at least he feels like she is his enemy. But the more he gets to know Serena and her situation, the more Rager realizes that they are instead in much the same situation. And so they become wary allies.
It doesn’t take long, however, until the attraction between them grows, and eventually Rager realizes that Serena is his mate. She’s also a rash, stubborn, emotional woman, who just barrels into situations without much forethought or planning. Although Rager does enjoy punishing and trying to tame her, it still exacerbates some already difficult situations for them. Especially in regards to him trying to keep her safe.
There are several scenes throughout the story of sexy times between these two. And for the most part they are hot, although most are a bit over the top for me, in particular the first.
Things don’t exactly settle down for them at any point. The intrigue surrounding their escape from her father really just grows and expands, right up until the ultimate resolution.
There are a handful of other intriguing characters who make significant appearances in the book. I do hope that we are treated to their stories later as well.
This “world” features an overbearing and cruel governor, Serena’s father, running deadly games for the entertainment of the elite. And I was sucked right in with these characters. Serena is young and inexperienced, but she comes into her own as our story progresses. Rager is as alpha as it gets. I always try to picture the characters from the description in the book and I imagine him as part bengal tiger. No, he doesn’t shift but he is a predator as he is. I was somewhat taken aback by the disciplinary and erotic spanking as Rager seemed almost sadistic (in a BDSM way), but Serena’s acceptance and enjoyment smoothed that out. Along with our couple’s romantic journey they also have to traverse a dangerous planet in search of their HEA. A great sci-fi read.
Serena is the daughter of the man who owns an arena for gladiator games to the death. Rager is a gladiator who has lived past his worth. When he escapes, he takes Serena with him. Serena wants to escape from the arranged marriage that her father has brokered. They quickly realize that they are meant for one another, but they need to escape the planet to be safe from her father. There are harsh punishments for Serena, but she accepts them. I enjoyed this sci-fi apocalyptic tale. The world that the author has built is amazing. A kind of Star Wars meets Spartacus. I highly recommend this book.

An amazing story! I was hooked from the first page until the last. Rager and Serena were perfect together and I loved how their relationship develops. A story filled with violence, strength, survival, and love. A definite must read and I highly recommend it.
Escape to survive
Such an amazing story! I love how the author drew us in with the first scene and then each experience after that kept us invested in the conclusion. I enjoyed how the relationship between these two characters grew and evolved the longer they were together. I don’t know if the author is planning on this being the beginning of a new series, but I would love to read Sayk and Janet’s story as well as Ry’s. No matter what she comes out with next, I can’t wait to read it.
