Thorne Brothers #1
The Thorne brothers were separated young and for the most part have managed to find one another again, set up a business together and do well for themselves. There is one brother still unaccounted for that they are looking for but otherwise they work together well, are close and take care of one another. They are also charming, attractive and eagerly sought out by those looking for a bit of time between the sheets.
In book one we meet the brothers and hear the story of Beckett, the oldest brother. He and a woman he had a one night stand with, Samantha “Sam” Devine, are hired to work together on a large lucrative job redesigning a home for a wealthy couple. They are forced into close proximity, have to make compromises and begin to care for one another…though it takes a bit of doing for them to reach the HEA conclusion hoped for.
There are no real big surprises in this story and the romance is fairly straight forward. I am interested in finding out more about the other brothers and also about the twist their private investigator brings to them near the end.

3-4 Stars
Give it Up – Lee Kilraine –This one was funny! Sam’s inner monologue cracked me up! And watching Beckett slide into love by accident and then panic also gave me a satisfying chuckle. There are some really lovely sibling relationships in this one, and Lee Kilraine did a great job investing you in their struggles. I do have one bone to pick. I understand that as a writer you don’t want to get in trouble with licensing issues. BUT she named Raleigh’s hockey team the Roughnecks. As a Raleigh girl, we are very proud of our sports teams. The Roughnecks are a baseball team in Dallas. If you are going to rename the Carolina Hurricanes, pick something that is totally original or put a smug note in the front saying that any resemblance to the Hurricanes is incidental. On the other hand, she really captured the spirit of the good old boy community in Raleigh. She had this quote about choosing a designer I loved. It went something like, “If you had to choose between someone with a great portfolio and someone your sister’s friend’s aunt who won first prize at the state fair for her peach cobbler you are going to pick the cobbler.” That is dead on! I would happily read the rest of the series!

Give It Up is the first book in Lee Kilraine’s Thorne Brother series. Beckett is the oldest brother in the family and he takes that position very seriously. Too seriously. The Thorne brothers did not have a good childhood but as adults they’re making a life and family for themselves.
This book is full of easy to love characters! I loved Beckett and his brothers. I loved their receptionists and everything that happens regarding that. It absolutely shows what kind of men the Thorne brothers are. I didn’t like Sam at first. But I respected her. She was driven to succeed to prove to her father she could. But it drove me insane when her idea of compromise was for everything to be done the way she wanted and then she got mad that Beckett wouldn’t compromise, aka do it her way. But, she grew on me. The more I got to know her in the story, the more I liked her.
This first book in the series was definitely about setting up the series and giving a backstory to the family. Because of all the time spent on that, I felt that Beckett and Sam’s relationship didn’t get the attention it needed. The first part of the book was spent with them fighting against each other, then they agree to have a benefits only relationship and then they had love. They didn’t spend time talking together outside of work, getting to know each other, or their pasts. It just felt like a superficial relationship and I was disappointed with that.
I’m definitely interested in the rest of the series. I love that one of the brothers is gay and it’s just no big deal. And that’s the way it should be but that’s not always how it happens in MF books. I just really would have liked more relationship between Beckett and Sam.
This is the first time I’ve read this author and I loved her writing style. She brought these characters to life. They were full of life and quirky and funny and sarcastic. They were a family, with all of its imperfections and all of its love. I highly recommend reading this book and getting to know the Thorne’s!
Rating: 4 stars
Give It Up by Lee Kilraine is book One in The Thorne Brothers series. This is the story of Beckett ‘Beck’ Thorne and Samantha ‘Sam’ Devine. The Thorne brothers were separated but found each other again except for one brother they are still looking to find. But the brothers now work together and this book covers Beck’s story. Beck and Sam have a past together but now they are both working toward the same construction job. But while battle for the job they each are battling their old feelings along with some new ones.
Enjoyed reading their story and can’t wait for more from the brothers.
Oh, how cute was this?!!! It’s a perfect way to start the beginning of a promising series. I mean, 6 brothers and a twist….sounds pretty perfect to me.
Beckett (Beck) is the eldest of the Thorne brothers. He’s been the “leader” of the group since before he turned double digits and he’s carried the “burden” ever since. Being in control is something he needs in order to get through. Something he’s learned from a very young age. So when the opportunity arises to land a huge construction/design contract, imagine he shock when he’s pitted against the one woman he lost control with two years ago. A woman he’s thought of since, but never acted on his thoughts…until now.
Samantha Devine is the new designer in town. Well, it’s been two years, but that’s still new. She’s worked extra hard, not only building a name for herself, but proving to her father that she’s worth more than the secretary job he’s belittled her with. Another way to prove her father wrong would be to land the huge contract up for grabs. But when she walks in to the meeting, the only thing up for grabs are her memories of that one unforgettable night with Beck. And now she has to work with him? Uh oh…
I think it’s safe to say that this one was a pretty straight forward story line of man/woman lust. But the background stories of each character and family history is what makes this so good. Not only do we get to meet the rest of the Thorne brothers, we meet friends along the way. So, was the chemistry between Beck and Sam hot? Duh. This story was more than that. It was about letting go of control and allowing yourself to trust and feel. It was about family, both the good and the bad. And yes, it’s about love.
Did I mention how excited I am to get my hands on these brothers? I mean, to read more about these brothers….
Lee is a favorite of mine for laugh out loud moments and this first book in a new series does not disappoint. She delivers funny and sexy in one neat package and you will find yourself rooting for the hero and heroine to get together in this enemies to lovers romance.
This is the first book I have read by Lee Kilraine but it won’t be the last I can’t wait for more from The Thorne Brothers and I will certainly be checking out her other books.
Beck and his brothers run a construction company and they are bidding for one of there biggest jobs so far but Sam a design consultant is also in the running and when the owner throws them a curveball by insisting they work on this project together that’s when things start to heat up…
I loved the concept of this book the characters are well developed and the story is realistic with sizzling chemistry family loyalty and a hockey team thrown in what more could you want. This book drew me in from the first page and there was no putting down until I had read the last line. Looking forward to more from The Thorne Brothers.
Lighthearted Family Series Bk 1.
Start of a new series involving 6 brothers who had a dysfunctional upbringing but have a tight bond with one another. Loved the interaction between the brothers and looking forward to reading their stories. Sam already knows that Beck doesn’t do relationships from an encounter in their shared past and when they first find themselves pitted against each other to win a contract and then have to work together in partnership, they try to remain professional but the chemistry between them is too great. The story is told from both their POV. This was an enjoyable book though I would have liked it to have had more emotional impact.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am absolutely, head over heels in love with these Thorn Brothers and this new series!! Please don’t make me wait long for more. I’ve read several books by this author and this series just cements me as a huge fan. Her writing style is fun and relaxed, her characters lovable but flawed and this band of brothers she’s created are just yummy. Each with there own bit of quirky but yummy just the same. This book is Beckett’s story. He’s the oldest, the protector and he has always taken on that responsibility for his brothers willingly. With the example his parents set he doesn’t believe in relationship or love. That is until Samantha Devine crashes into his life and heart like a freight train.
I loved everything about this book especially that ending! More please. Now!! I highly recommend this one.
I really enjoyed Beckett Thorne and Sam(Samantha) Devine’s love story. Beckett runs a construction company with his many Thorne brothers. Samantha runs a design business with her best friend Margo. I enjoyed the inner dialogue that each character had throughout the story line which at times gave me a good laugh. A little steam, romance, family discord, combined with some rough aspects of growing up made this book a 5 star intriguing read.
