From the bestselling authors of The Good Widow comes a chilling novel of psychological suspense that will make you think twice about what your best friend may be hiding… Mexico? But even after they’re reunited, no one is being completely honest about the past or the secrets they’re hiding. When Ashley disappears on their girls’ night out, Natalie and Lauren have to try to piece together their hazy memories to figure out what could have happened to her, while also reconciling their feelings of guilt over their last moments together.
Was Ashley with the man she’d met only days before? Did she pack up and leave? Was she kidnapped? Or worse—could Natalie or Lauren have snapped under the weight of her own lies?
As the clock ticks, hour by hour, Natalie and Lauren’s search rushes headlong into growing suspicion and dread. Maybe their secrets run deeper and more dangerous than one of them is willing—or too afraid—to admit.

Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke did a great job again. This is one hell of a good story.
It pulled me in and would not let go. I was hooked and had nowhere to go. This is one of those books that will have you guessing what happened but until that very last page you won’t get it. It absolutely floored me. Left me in tears and shock.
Three friends are in Mexico to get back to where they use to be. They have been best friends for over 20 years but had a falling out and were trying to get back to where they wanted to be.
When one of them goes missing, the other two try to find her and figure out what happened. Neither can remember exactly what happened the night before and start questioning each other’s motives. They met a man, Marco, while there and Ashley, who is missing was last seen with him and Natalie.
If you lost your best friend what would you do to find her/him. Would you go to any length to ensure they were safe? What if you thought maybe you had done something that could be responsible for them being gone? Would you tell or hold it in? What if you could benefit from your friend not coming back. All of these are good questions and you will find the answers in this story. It will keep you on the edge all the way to the explosive ending that will totally blow you away.
These authors are so good. They wrote a book that keeps you turning pages, wondering, hating for it to end. It goes back and forth between each woman’s story and before and after Ashley goes missing. It’s very easy to follow and touches on subjects that need to be talked about. Abuse, friendship and strangers in a foreign country. Who can you trust. If not your best friend then certainly who.
I have to thank #NetGalley and #Lake Union Authors for the honor of reading this book. It’s so good. A big 5 stars, nothing less would do, for this book.
Three friends go to Mexico to rekindle their friendship. One friend goes missing. Good to the last sentence! If you are looking for a quick, easy, and interesting read, this is it! I love how the story was told from each friends perspective.
Lisa and Liz really know how to write a thriller. Their second in this genre, Girls’ Night Out is suspenseful from the start. The story alternates between three friends- Ashley, Lauren, and Natalie- and the days leading up to, and after, Ashley’s mysterious disappearance. In Tulum, Mexico. That’s right, these girls went out, drank too much, and a friend disappears in MEXICO. Cue panic. And confusion. Because one of them remembers absolutely nothing, the other is clueless, and this was no ordinary trip. Tension is high and feelings are dangerously close to the surface. They came on this trip to mend what’s broken. But they wouldn’t do anything to actually hurt one another….would they?
Girls’ Night Out kept me captivated from page one. The three friends have distinct personalities and their own individual issues, so despite the alternating voices and time line, it was surprisingly easy to follow and not lose track of what was going on. Speaking of personalities, I honestly could not stand Ashley (and maybe you’re not supposed to?). She read as incredibly narcissistic, but yet completely clueless as to how her behavior affected those close to her. Her character reminded me of a quote from a show called Justified. Its main character, Raylan Givens, says, “If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you’re the asshole.” Well, Ashley was kind of an asshole. With the best of intentions. I think. She was a conundrum.
Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke have themselves another amazing whodunit with this one. I stayed up late into the night, with complete disregard for sleep, in order to finish and it was worth every sleep deprived minute. Until literally, the very. last. page. Have the caffeine ready after this one. You’ll pull an all-nighter to finish, too
Girls Night Out is a fast paced tale of friendship and trouble in paradise. Told back and forth in time and by all three main characters, this book pulled me in from the first page!
Hold on to your tequila! This is an excellent book! ”
“It just is what it is, no matter how much you want it to be something else.”
A suspenseful mystery about three women who have been friends for twenty-five years and yet, now their friendship as well as their lives are in disarray.
A trip to Tulum, Mexico for a few days to regroup is just what these ladies need. Or Is It?
You will be turning the pages to find out how and why one of these friends just leaves or disappears?
This novel had me from the first page to the very last. Loved the ending!
Three friends with issues to resolve take a trip to Mexico to try to reconnect.
The issues seemed to compound rather than lessen. When one of the friends is missing the morning after a wild night of drinking, the tension between the two remaining friends continues and worsens as their fears mount.
GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT goes back and forth from past to present bringing with it a bit of confusion as to what is going on for the reader, but revealing that the friends have a lot of secrets they never told each other.
The book actually dragged on for me even though the secrets were interesting, but they were a bit too vague to bring anything to the story for me until around half way through the book when the reasons for the fights and the estrangements started to emerge.
The tension mounted even more when the police arrived, but up until that point, I didn’t think there was that much suspense.
GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT gives wonderful reasons for friendships to repair themselves and for women to support each other.
GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT was suspenseful because of the missing friend, but the majority of the book was about repairing friendships and revealing secrets.
Most of the secrets dealt with domestic abuse which is an excellent topic to get out in the open.
Another issue about being safe and making smart decisions when you are in a foreign country and with strangers was addressed. That is great advice and very frightening.
The tension in the last 20% of the book definitely picked up my interest and my opinion despite the slow read until then. So instead of a 3/5, I am changing my rating to a 4/5.
I received an Advanced Reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
