The New York Times bestselling novel by the author of Remarkable Creatures and The Last Runaway Translated into thirty-nine languages and made into an Oscar-nominated film, starring Scarlett Johanson and Colin Firth
Tracy Chevalier transports readers to a bygone time and place in this richly-imagined portrait of the young woman who inspired one of Vermeer’s most celebrated paintings.
… inspired one of Vermeer’s most celebrated paintings.
History and fiction merge seamlessly in this luminous novel about artistic vision and sensual awakening. Girl with a Pearl Earring tells the story of sixteen-year-old Griet, whose life is transformed by her brief encounter with genius . . . even as she herself is immortalized in canvas and oil.

Loved the whole story! Great characters!
One of my favorite books!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very interesting story and plot.
I read this book some time ago and it’s still one of my favorites. I’ve read several of this author’s books and have liked them all. This book was also made into a movie.
A terrific story! Well written and very engrossing.
The theme of this book is a novel idea. The author brings to life the people she has seen in great painting throughout history. Very creative and an enjoyable read.
It was ok
wonderfully written and so engaging
Gave insight into the painter, Vermeer, as well as another day and time.
Historical fiction at it’s best. Not fact, but a good representation of the time and place.
I have always been fascinated by the Dutch painter Jan Vermeer, with comparative small body of extant works of art and small production of art. I knew he used a camera obscura in his work. But this factionalized history of his wife, family, and the very compelling side story of the ‘girl with pearl earring’, made this book absolutely a page turner, oocasionally sad, but absolutely thoroughly researched. The characters were so interesting, each and every one, including the children involved. The book Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier was absolutely so well-writte, that even though I thought I knew a lot about Vermeer and have seen as many of his extant works as possible, it made me look into his history even more! You won’t be sorry you read this one, even if you are not an art lover!
What a wonderful story! It held my interest from start to finish with a believable line.
