The New York Times bestselling novel by the author of Remarkable Creatures and The Last Runaway Translated into thirty-nine languages and made into an Oscar-nominated film, starring Scarlett Johanson and Colin Firth
Tracy Chevalier transports readers to a bygone time and place in this richly-imagined portrait of the young woman who inspired one of Vermeer’s most celebrated paintings.
… inspired one of Vermeer’s most celebrated paintings.
History and fiction merge seamlessly in this luminous novel about artistic vision and sensual awakening. Girl with a Pearl Earring tells the story of sixteen-year-old Griet, whose life is transformed by her brief encounter with genius . . . even as she herself is immortalized in canvas and oil.

Loved the characters and the time period in which it was written.
Love historical fiction, and this just carries it one step further!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. Based on history as far as the artist’s life is concerned – the imagination of the author concerning a particular painting and the artist’s model is very poignant. I recommend this book to those that like biographies or books based on history.
I love historical fiction, and this book did not disappoint!
I loved this book so much that I went out and purchased a print of the picture which now hangs in my home!
I loved this book. felt like was there.
truly wonderful
This book should never have been a film but it is a great read. A window into the era and life of the times.
Tracy Chevalier is a wonderful author. She brings to life the young woman in the famous painting by Vermeer. Chevalier draws a realistic and clear view of life in 17th century Holland and of one of its most creative artists. I never look at this painting the same.
Not for me but I can understand its popularity. Good writing and detailed development of time, people and place.
A fascinating view of a famous painting and a believable tale of the young girl in the painting and her relationship with the master. A ‘must read’
This is a very good book.
Excellent! Learned of life at that time.
Interesting look at the world of the Netherlands during that time.
Wonderful story that came “alive” as I read it!
Great book. Unfortunately, Tracy Chevalier is a one trick pony. This was her one really good book.
One of my absolute favorite books of all time. I’ve read it more than once and passed it along to others. One of this author’s best!
Although I enjoyed this book I felt that her other books were better, especially Remarkable Creatures and Virgin Blue.
Interesting and well written.
There was a lot of history included in a wonderful story. Made for great reading.
