Not a book that you can’t put down but one that will stay with you. Beautiful picture painting of life in that time period. Excellent historical references
Excellent reading. Very interesting.
This a great historical fiction story. It seems to fit the times well. gives you an understanding of the times and how people related to each other,
So fun to paint a story around the art. Even better after I saw the painting up close!
One of my favorite historical novels. I particularly like them when the center on a character that is not usually thought of as the main protagonist. Well worth the read.
unlikely story. kind of boring.
My very favorite book of the last decade. How one can be transported in the era of the “Flamish” painters….a poignant story, where the working class get short changed. Do not miss this fantastic book.
I love historical novels and this was a very good one. I would say it was sad in many places but in the end it worked out well. I would love to read other books by the author but I am not able to read right now. I am currently listening to books on audible and found it to serve my purpose for the time being, Glad I have that option.
Definitely not one I would read twice.
Excellent
Loved this book. A look into another time and country.
Well written, beautiful story
A glimpse of being an artist when they had to make their own paints.
Very character driven, not much action, but you do learn so much about the characters. I read more by the author, so I must have enjoyed it.
This story captivated me from the beginning. Read even if you have seen the movie be sure to take the time to read this book, it’s a quick read.
What a creative endeavor to tell the story behind a beautiful, haunting painting.
The author pulls it off wonderfully. Felt like I was there for the inside story.
Better than the movie!
Excellent and entertaining historical novel.
Some truth I am sure. Learn about famous painter.
not a fan. There was not enough substance to the story.
