#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER – OVER 3 MILLION COPIES SOLD
Do you ever suspect that everyone else has life figured out and you don’t have a clue? If so, Rachel Hollis has something to tell you: that’s a lie.
If you have ever said any of these things to yourself . . .
Something else will make me happy.
I’m not a good mom.
I will never get past this.
I am defined by my weight.
I should be … mom.
. . . then you could benefit from the unflinching faith and rock-hard tenacity Rachel Hollis has in store for you. In this challenging but conversational book, Rachel exposes the twenty lies and misconceptions that too often hold us back from living joyfully and productively, lies we’ve told ourselves so often we don’t even hear them anymore.
Rachel is real and talks about real issues. More than that, she reveals the specific practical strategies that helped her move past them. In the process, she encourages, entertains, and even kicks a little butt, all to convince you to do whatever it takes to get real and become the joyous, confident woman you were meant to be. Because you really can live with passion and hustle – and give yourself grace without giving up.

Great book to make you stop and look at your life.
Not a fan. Hollis seems fake, is trying too hard, & isn’t really qualified to give advice. I’m glad I borrowed this book.
I love her so much and want to be her friend.
I just LOVE Rachel. She shares her story and how she overcame and rose above so many obstacles with the hopes of bringing you forward with her. I recommend this book as well as her other book: Girl, Stop Apologizing
So many people love her, love her books and I wanted to so badly. I just didn’t love how it was written. For much of this felt like a diary from her life, and while that was relatable I didn’t feel like I learned anything from her life lessons. I am glad so many people find inspiration in her life stories, but for me, it was blah.
Another favorite author to add to the list!!
Enlightening
Here’s a fun game to play while reading – take a sip of your favorite alcoholic beverage every time she uses the word “tribe”. That and her referring to the reader as “girlfriend” and “sister”. I think it’s meant to be cute but I personally find it to be cringey and insincere.
I always like to offer an explanation when I’m giving something a low review and since our author states that she does not read reviews, I feel like I can be completely honest here.
To start, I would like to say that there were parts of this book that I enjoyed a lot. Unfortunately, they were weighed out by the parts that I didn’t. I wish I could rate each chapter separately because there is good advice with sweet and/or funny stories but I don’t think they are worth reading this entire book for.
I hate to say it but I am shocked by how many people loved and recommended this book. It’s listed as being “Self Help: Motivational / Inspirational” but I think it’s more like an autobiography. The author likes to tell us in almost every single chapter that she is a CEO/entrepreneur/owner of a very popular and successful lifestyle media company. That is so awesome and I am genuinely happy for her but after reading about it for the umpteenth time I am over it. I really felt like she slipped that in every opportunity she had – that or she thinks we forget about what she does for a living at the conclusion of every chapter? Either way it had me rolling my eyes.
She gives a few examples, I think in hopes of being relatable, but she throws some tidbit in there that ends up selling it short. Like her story about peeing her pants when jumping on a trampoline while a “previously programmed FB post” goes up of her trying on dresses for the Oscars…. Or her working really hard to get something she wants, something that she felt “represented the kind of woman she dreamed of becoming” – a $1000 Louis Vuitton purse….
Lastly, I wish she would’ve left out the chapters about the “love story” with her husband and her weight struggles. While I appreciate her attempt at being upfront and honest, they didn’t sit well with me – mainly because of her highly unqualified advice and because of what someone may take away from it.
All in all I think this book reads as judgmental, incredibly tone-deaf and severely lacking in humility.
I am inspired to try running again after reading this book though so for that I give it a 1.5
Very motivational, inspiring and eye opening. It was a fun informative A easy read. Rachel Hollis is an amazing writer bringing her powerful energy through the page.
Inspirational, Realistic and Original.
I loved it. Truly inspirational.
Great points and very honest
A disappointing read. One long humble brag.
I couldn’t get into it. It took me a long time to get through this book and I found it super unrelatable. I wanted to like it, I really did. I just don’t.
Bless your heart, Rachel Hollis.
This is the most to the point book I have listened to in a while and I need to tip my hat to you as the author.
Here is an extract from my blog which is fitting for this review.
I’m listening to an audible book entitled, Girl, wash your face by Rachel Hollis and is astounded that this young woman, the same age as my eldest daughter can be so on-point while discussing the crucial truths we, as women need to hear. Where was she when I was 19 years old? Where was she when I was 52 years old, pining over a lost love? Committing mistakes upon mistakes to hold on to this man, just to learn I’m not good enough; and think this relationship had a future. I was beyond ignorant.
There are so many points that really resonated within me that I simply cannot put it down here. The 20 chapters are to the point with helpful tips to get away from it into truth. I found the audible book refreshing, as though she was speaking to me directly. Needless to say, this is a must-read for any woman who wants to find the truths to the lies she believes. The author will challenge and, set you straight but yet do it in the humblest way. Being open about her own struggles made it easy to face my own and learn from the wisdom she provided.
This is a book you can revert back consistently to help you in your own struggles and set you on the path of victory. A book I can recommend wholeheartedly.
This book is seriously life changing. I don’t typically read self help books in fact I kind of hate them but I’ve been making a lot of life changes the last few months and something compelled me to pick this book up. I am SO glad I did and will absolutely be reading her other books as well. A must read for sure!
A book written by the author to praise herself while trying to make you believe she has something useful to impart.
Very inspiring, and motivational
I liked this book. I read all of it, even the chapters for moms, though I’m not a mother. I like the stories Rachel uses from her own life as examples and that she isn’t afraid to talk about tough topics. I plan on reading her next book soon.
Every woman needs to read this book.
