“I believe we can change the world. But first, we’ve got to stop living in fear of being judged for who we are.” Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough. In Girl, Stop Apologizing, #1 New York Times bestselling … Times bestselling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people–whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee–instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.

Girl, Stop Apologizing is a call to action for women. It provides an action plan to identify and achieve goals that are personal to each woman. Hollis’ approach is direct, sincere, and motivating. She writes this book with the tone of your sister or best friend telling you to stop making excuses and get your butt in gear to achieve your goals.
I appreciated how this book was structured; first with excuses that you need to let go, next with behaviors that need to stop and finally skills to acquire. It was a natural flow to get your mind and soul ready to accomplish your dreams.
One of my favorite chapters was “Ask for help!” It was raw, authentic and a recognition that we can’t and should not have to do this allow. It was a reminder that all successful women have help and provided ideas on how women just starting their dream journey can get the help they need.
Was anything that she shared new? No. But that does not make it any less important. There are many women who need the push and encouragement to go after their dreams and a game plan to get started.
Self-Help or motivational books normally aren’t the type of book I pick up to read. When I’m reading, I want to escape to a fictional world. Girl, Stop Apologizing pushed me outside of my reading comfort zone and boy am I glad it did. This book was EVERYTHING I needed right now.
I’ve been on a blogging and reading hiatus lately. There has just been so much going on in my personal life, I haven’t been able to focus and dedicate the time. Rachel Hollis’s words in Girl, Stop Apologizing motivated me to get back to the things I love. The things I do exclusively for me. To take the time for myself to do what makes me happy. I took a vacation. I stood up for myself. And I did so unapologetically, because I deserve time for myself to take care of me. I already knew that in my head, but seeing the words come from someone else made them sink in.
I love Rachel she is so inspiring to me.
I am happy for the author that she pulls six figures per month with her millions of followers and her husband left a job and salary people would kill for (her words, not mine) to tell me stuff I have already heard of. Be better, do better, I am better.
I love that she made it. Girl power and all of that. She is after all, “ building an empire”.
I also get that she likely gets paid to wear shoes from sponsors and paid to say her face cream is the bomb dot com because it is supplied to people with high profile social media accounts.
Girl, you do you.
I will stick with being inspired by the single moms, the working moms and general awesome women in my life without having to hear about all the money they have.
I loved this book! I wish it had been around 40 years ago! The advice and growth are timeless, so, it truly in “Never too late!”
I just could not get into this book no matter how hard I tried. Everyone seems to love her, but I don’t think the advice is original at all. I didn’t finish this book either.
“Girl, Stop Apologizing” has the same general message of the other self-help books: “Don’t be afraid, don’t live in your life in fear, follow your heart/dreams”. What makes “Girl, Stop Apologizing” different is Rachel’s own example and her different step plans on how to change your daily routine or creating goals that will stick. It was a good read and I would recommend this book first if you are a first-time self-help reader.
I bought this book for a family member who was struggling emotionally ; after I read it I decided not to give it to her since it seemed too superficial and dependent upon cheerleading rather than true insight.
I did find the few actual Action items and the parts about fear, not procrastinating and tolerance of other’s comments motivational/inspirational . As with all self-help books it’s mostly what you should/shouldn’t do, story telling with not a lot of how-to- get- it information (a vision board is great but it’s not really information on what to do and where to go to get what you want. Needs more details on action/project plans(business type stuff). I only gave it a 3 because 1: it was addressed throughout the book mostly to ‘moms’ of which I am not – not really to people who are working, or of older ages and searching for other dreams of success, with no reference information (links, advice of other conferences/seminars, materials etc); 2: I know it’s just a personal opinion of something I shouldn’t let get to me, but, I find it absolutely annoying when people address me by Sister, Sis, Mama or any similar form of female grouping name (I don’t like Girl, either). As she mentioned in her book about the terms ‘sheboss’, entrepreneurher etc, being disrespectful, I also think it’s rude and unprofessional. However, with that being said, this was definitely one of the better of any self-help books I’ve read because I did identify with some of the examples that she gave (that’s me!) and liked her style of getting the point across better than any other book and will go back to it when I need a ‘pick me up’. I signed up for their daily email inspiration messages (from Dave not Rachel) and I do like to read them in the morning-but I should print it out because I just forget it all by the time I get to going at my lousy job. Yes, Read it, ‘the only opinion that matters is your own’.
If you can dream it, you can SCHEME it into being!
But that’s only IF you don’t let logistics stand in your way. Only if you’re willing to take a risk. Only if you’re okay with failing and trying again.
This book will help you for your dreams. Because if you don’t reach for the sky, then who the hell else is going to reach there for you?

This is a great book for not only boosting your self-confidence but also if you’re having a bad day and need some inspiration that you CAN accomplish what you set your mind to.
Rachel’s second non fiction book is absolutely amazing. I have it on audio book and the actual book and whenever I am going through a tough time at work and need inspiration or a positive influence, I just put my headphones on and listen to one of the chapters. Highly recommend to any man or woman, any age group.
I love listening to Rachel’s books! I actually want to listen to them again every few months because she is so real and inspirational! I definitely enjoy how she makes me think about things! I can’t wait for the next book!
Ms Hollis really resonates with life and natural consequences… I think every female should read this if you have struggles! It just makes it REAL! I loved it!!
This 2nd book hit home with me!
This book is so amazing for any woman no matter what age, season of life, ethnicity, shape, or size. Women everywhere need to hear Rachel’s method in order to live fully into yourself and reach for more. This book is inspiring and is sure to light your heart on fire. With the help of this book, you can achieve anything.
I honestly didn’t think it was possible to enjoy Rachel Hollis’ second book Girl, Stop Apologizing more than her first Girl, Wash Your Face!
I’ve just finished reading this book at work during my break and I’m in awe! I really needed this book in my life right now! From making personal goals and following through, to not apologizing for those same goals! Like Rachel says in her book:
“You can make the time to pursue your goals, and you have to do it now. Why now? Because if not now, then when?”
The way Rachel approaches her books is to give the reader shared excuses we should let go of if we want to accomplish our goals. Through her own experiences, and even mistakes, you’re given ways to face your goals head on!
The one chapter in this book that I highlighted and marked up the most was “Embrace Your Ambition” which I seriously have trouble with in my life right now. I have so much drive and ambition to accomplish my career goals right now, I feel like I’m bursting to shout it from the tree tops. Another line from Rachel’s book that really spoke to me was:
“You need to adopt a posture of striving to grow in the ways that matter to your goal.”
With all this ambition and desire to accomplish these goals, I need to build my foundation for my own success and plan how I see myself getting there. Many of the tools Rachel outlines in her book are the stepping-stones for girls and women alike to achieve the goals and dreams many of us have, been putting on pause, or even cancelling. Just like Rachel’s last chapter says, you need to believe in yourself:
“It’s time to stop apologizing for who you are. It’s time to become who you were made to be.”
I couldn’t praise Rachel’s first book enough to my friends, family, followers and colleagues enough, but I truly think everyone should go get Girl, Stop Apologizing March 12 when it comes out! It really is a life changing book!
Thanks to GoodReads and Harper Collins for this advanced copy! There’s a long line of eager readers from my Atlanta Social Club book club wanting to get their hands on this!

In true Hollis fashion this book jumps right in and takes no prisoners. Honest, open, no shame. Kick butt and take names later…. It maybe just forget the names; especially if they’re haters!
Another inspirational book that will push an insane amount of women to go for their dreams without questioning those around them if those dreams are possible.
At a time when self help or how to’s are all the rage; Rachel has a performance voice that doesn’t alienate many and she wants to empower females everywhere. Maybe you haven’t thought of that dream seriously, maybe you have told yourself it’s silly or maybe you just haven’t taken the time to focus on you.
Start here and be inspired!!!! A few tips, hints, and tricks that might just be what you’ve been missing. What’s your more?????
I received an advanced copy of the book and this is my honest review.
Like all of Mrs Rachel Hollis’s books, I loved it. She sets out and give you the tools to live a better life for you, not for everyone in your life. If you aren’t there for yourself you can’t be there for others.
I highly recommend Girl, Stop Apologizing to any woman that I know and don’t because I fell like she give you the basic fundamental resources to stop apologizing and live.
I received an ARC from the publisher but I have also pre-ordered the book for myself and others.
Now waiting for her next book.
I love Rachel Hollis. She feels like my sister from another mister. Her writing style makes you feel right at home.
