Wow. Action, sharp dialogue, and characters you can easily fall for. A great debut for the writing team of S.T. Young.
I started this book with some trepidation. Psychological thrillers aren’t usually my thing, especially with multiple personalities. That concern was put to rest within a few pages, because I really loved the characters from the start, and the explanation for the personalities is unique and easy to believe.
Rory is a too-die-for hero that won’t swerve from his mission: finding Nina Hernandez. His sense of honor frames every decision he makes, and I admire the authors’ ability to use that trait throughout the story.
Nina was just as well-described. Her sense of survival is what motivates her; that and revenge. I was kept on my toes throughout the book, wondering what decision she’ll make next.
The action was taut and easy to visualize. I look for that in a book. Just when you think there’s a lull, bam! you’re hit with another twist. Very enjoyable. And the short chapters make it easy to read on and on.
The ending is exciting and satisfying. A definite must-read for action-adventure readers. I like a bit more romance in my reads, but sexual tension runs thick throughout. You won’t be disappointed when you pick this book up.
I loved this book!! It was haunting, but wonderful at the same time. The characters were realistic and well developed. This book touched on mental issues and psychological abuse. This book was a twisting tale of trust and blooming romance between a former child soldier and a tracker. It was gripping and had me constantly on the edge of my seat. Multiple personalities, mental institution rescues, gun fights, and a budding romance are just a few of the things you can look forward to in this book. Do not miss this book! It took me out of my comfort zone for genres, but it was definitely worth it!! this book.
Kept my interest the entire book. Great concept and wonderful characters! I loved it.
What a difficult write for the author. Tackling mental illness of this type and making the reader understand it. Genius writing, totally enjoyed it.
An intriguing and “edge of the seat” read. Very unique type storyline.
Great story. Page turner to find out what happens next.
The steamy attempts at seduction actually got boing to read after a while.
Girl in the Mist by author S. T. Young is a psychological suspense thriller with a wonderful plot and likable characters. The beginning of the book states off intense with Nina Hernandez being subjected to a tortuous session of electrotherapy, injections, and abuse. Nina is a former child soldier with the South American Rising Sun organization of trained assassins. Later, after her rescue she was trained as an agent for the Anti-Terrorism Defense Force. She went missing and is now helpless.
Agent Rory O’Donnell is an agent for Naval Intelligence whose mission is to locate the remaining former Rising Sun agents who had been commissioned to the Anti-Terrorism Defense Force. Nina Hernandez is his current target and he visits the Prima Vista Psychiatric Hospital to talk with a young woman who is being held. The woman he meets reacts with a savage fighting instinct and seems to be drugged. Could this be Nina?
This book has a wonderful storyline and the plot is very good. The complex character of Nina is written well and her multiple personalities are easy to navigate during the story. She is a warrior and has her own agenda. Nina is broken. She needs help, she needs a safe place to recover while being pursued by a madman intent on vengeance. Can she be trusted? What is the endgame?
I won’t post spoilers, but there are some very intense action scenes which are great.
I would have given the book a higher rating if the authors had written the part of Agent Rory more seriously. He is a seasoned agent but the authors have written him with a problem which seems immature and just not believable. Too early in the book Rory has problems with his sexual tensions and pulsing reactions to a very dangerous former agent who he is trying to get to safety while being pursued by a maniacal killer.?? The lust factor which is written into the EARLY part of the storyline put me off. If it had started later in the book, well yes, I could understand. There is a difference in lust and romance, and this is not romance. That is something I really find out of character for an agent with such an important mission.
