In Alisha Rai’s second novel in her Modern Love series, a reclusive investor goes viral, shoving her into the world’s spotlight—and into the arms of the bodyguard she’s been pining for… AT THE SAME TIME!!!
One minute, Katrina King’s enjoying an innocent conversation with a random guy at a coffee shop; the next, a stranger has live-tweeted the entire encounter with a romantic meet-cute spin and #CafeBae has the world swooning. Going viral isn’t easy for anyone, but Katrina has painstakingly built a private world for herself, far from her traumatic past. Besides, everyone has it all wrong…that #CafeBae bro? He isn’t the man she’s hungry for.
He’s got a to die for.
With the internet on the hunt for the identity of #CuteCafeGirl, Jas Singh, bodyguard and possessor of the most beautiful eyebrows Katrina’s ever seen, offers his family’s farm as a refuge. Alone with her unrequited crush feels like a recipe for hopeless longing, but Katrina craves the escape. She’s resigned to being just friends with Jas–until they share a single electrifying kiss. Now she can’t help but wonder if her crush may not be so unrequited after all…

I so enjoyed this book. It was a perfect pick me up away from reality at the moment. Katrina and Jas were adorable together, and the ending, the ending just hit me as so sweet and perfect and I will cherish it forever.
Thank you NetGalley, Harper Collins Publishers, and Alisha Rai for the Advance Readers E-Copy.
Katrinas life was never easy at age nine her mother passed away. Her dad then took over raising her, but for his own gain. Her father was Psychological and emotionally. One day at an event she meets Hardeep, a Wealthy older man, where they strike a deal to get married. He wants companionship and she wants to be rescued from her father. To add to Katrinas anxiety she is one day kidnapped and held for ransom. Causing her to have PTSD and severe panic attacks.
The first paragraph to me is A need to know before going into this book. When you first start out reading this book your hit with so many questions that are later answered. It’s to a point it kind of drives you a little batty because you want to know why Katrina has PTSD and severe anxiety attacks. Why is this happening? Why is she like this? Also Katrinas husband dies but you don’t really know why you can only guess old age. It never goes in to details of why he died just he just plain kicked the bucket. So many unanswered questions at once.
There’s also the subject of Katrinas kidnapping/ being held for ransom. There’s a lot of details being left out, I would liked to have had a little more back story details on the kidnapping.
Then there is Jasvindar, who is Katrina’s bodyguard who has been there since she married Hardeep. He also has a history of PTSD from his time in the military. They both suffer from their past and you think it would make them clash but it brings them together. Like most of us Jasvindar doesn’t like to open up about his past. So when Jasvindar sweeps Katrina away from all the #cutecafegirl girl gone viral fiasco. They get a chance to really get to know each other and it’s there at Jasvindar’s family farm we really get to get a look inside at Jasvindar.
Girl Gone Viral brings up a lot of important factors that we can learn from. PTSD is not something to play around with. Don’t let people bottle their emotions up they are not a burden. The internet oh boy oh boy social media. Its well it’s on kind of crazy. It really can ruin your life and take control of you. Sometimes what we think are harmless pokes at people could really be doing harm to people.
Rai’s Girl Gone Viral sizzles with heart and family. Jas and Kat’s fiery chemistry is irresistible, fulfilling every bodyguard fantasy. This book satisfies as much as Kat’s sourdough waffles.
This is the second book in Alisha Rai’s fantastic “Modern Love” series of RomComs (psst I already recommended the first one “The Right Swipe”). Here, a reclusive investor goes viral, shoving her into the world’s spotlight—and into the arms of the bodyguard she’s been pining for…
Book 129 towards my goal of 290! 4/5 stars for this contemporary romance read. Love the cover. Really enjoyed the dual narration. Love the family dynamics in this one! Lots of talk of PTSD and trauma. Definitely recommend!
I really enjoyed this second book in this series! I liked this one more than the first! The characters felt much more relatable because their situations they were dealing with didn’t have very much to do with their vast fortunes. Even though their money did come into play in parts, it wasn’t a main focal point in this one in my opinion. I really like the way that mental health issues like PTSD were addressed, and I really loved how it was stressed that chosen family is just as important, and sometimes more so, as blood family.
This was so cute. I just loved Katrina. The romance was steamy and sweet. I will definitely read the next one in this series.
Reclusive angel investor, Katrina King, values her privacy. However, when someone takes her picture at a coffee shop being nice to a guy her love life goes from nonexistent to viral. Now she’s working to protect her privacy while not falling head over heels for her bodyguard.
This book was creative with clever characters and a great premise. It definitely has some steamy moments, but overall I thought it was a fun story.
Wow, I enjoyed this book! Katrina and Jas are precious. Rai, as usual, deals with heavier subjects deftly while entertaining and building gorgeous heat. Man, Jas is the best, and I love him, You’ll enjoy this book if you like steamy reads with thoughtful, lovely hero and heroines in a bodyguard relationship dynamic!
I simply loved this book. And the author knows how to name a dog! 🙂 Have read book 1 of this series, Modern Love, and I am looking forward to book 3! Book 2, Girl Gone Viral, is a can’t miss read.
There is so much to love about this book. First, the main characters are a refreshing change from the usual trope. Jas is incredibly dreamy and I fell in love with him a little. True story. His beauty, kindness, and strength were addictive. Who doesn’t love a proective man that is vulnerable? Great story. I’ll read more from Alisha Rai.
A sexy, Sikh bodyguard and a reclusive billionaire, each with their own troubled pasts and issues, come together in Girl Gone Viral. I really loved The Right Swipe and wanted to love this one as much, but in my mind it fell short a few decimals despite the tech talk.
Still, it’s a happy romance that you will want to finish and hug.
Katrina King is a wealthy widow , an ex-model who suffers from panic attacks. For the past 9 years she has been protected by her personal bodyguard, veteran Jas Singh . Unbeknownst to them both they are attracted to each other! On one of her ventures out to a small café a young man sits at her table which leads to a secret taping and an internet sensation. Feeling exposed and uncomfortable Jas takes her to his family’s home. In this close situation feelings emerge and are shared. With friend support she overcomes her fears to stand up for herself on the air, in her life and finds the love of her life. I loved how strong Jas’s feelings for her were and hers for him in return.
Those who have read The Right Swipe will remember Rhiannon’s best friend and roommate Katrina King. In Book #2 we learn more about what drove her to her panic attacks and the heightened security and her need to be private and not have her photo taken etc. Her therapist Andy has encouraged her to start venturing to a few places at a time, while at a coffee shop she has come to feel comfortable at as her and the owner go way back “Monas”, its a busy day and she ends up sharing her table with a stranger named Ross. He asks her out, but she declines. The pair go their separate ways and she expects never to hear about the conversation etc ever again as in her mind, nothing happened. However, she is in for the fright of her life and the start of her worst nightmare as someone on twitter concocted a story of #meetcute between Kat and Ross and now her picture is blasted on the internet as the story goes viral. Even worst is that Ross hops on the bandwagon and starts spinning lies about Kat and his “non-existent” relationship. In a state of panic, Kat’s bodyguard Jas takes her to his family home out in the country to lie low. Kat has only eyes for Jas and maybe finally the pair will realize their love for one another? Can Kat’s friends’ band together when news of her viral ends up alerting her location to someone she had hoped would never track her down after the last time he hurt her. Find out in Girl Gone Viral, the perfect chick-lit novel for those fans of Social Media and these days of living in an internet-driven world.
If you like the first one you’ll definitely like the second one. Co-workers to lovers romance.
I pretty much love all of Alisha Rai’s books, but this is one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the characters.
Holy Forkin’ Shirtballs, this book was fantastic! A splendid romance as up to the minute as the latest Twitter kerfluffle, a hunky hero who doesn’t take of his shirt nearly enough (and gives new meaning to the peach emoji), a heroine who’s wonderfully brave and willing to confront her deepest fears, and possibly the best dispatching of a villain I’ve seen in a long time.
Did I mention the lost puppy? Really, it has it all. A fun summer read, a great “own voices” tale, up-to-the-minute dating life in the 21st c. issues, and some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. It was the perfect summer getaway.
This was a sensational book! Funny, tender. The hero and heroine’s longing for each other came across so well, I could FEEL it. There was a crazy balance that had to be navigated, as he’s her bodyguard, she’s his employer, and I was all about that tension, and super pleased with how it was handled in the story.
There was angst–the perfect amount, and even a tough of danger. But mostly romance and feelings and characters I felt I knew in real life. Highly recommend this one.
If you’re looking for a bodyguard, friends-to-lover, slow burn romance with a bit of forced proximity thrown in for good measure, this book is it.
This is not my first Alisha Rai romance but there’s just something about her voice that I enjoy – fresh, brisk and modern. And it’s the perfect voice to tell this kind of story. It strikes on very relevant themes of internet privacy, shaping the narratives of real people to suit the voracious desire for others to live vicariously through the celebrity du jour, especially the story of people’s love lives regardless of whether it hews close to reality or not. Rai handles these themes deftly, without burdening the narrative.
Katrina Jackson is funny, intelligent, and somewhat reserved with her feelings. A combination of factors contributes to her reticence. She lives with panic disorder and anxiety, a condition that is depicted realistically, with an emphasis on therapy and good friendships. Katrina has also constructed her life in just such a way as to keep her anxiety from being triggered. She has a wonderful support group of friends who love her unconditionally, and to whom she is generous in turn.
Likewise, the depiction of Jasvinder’s PTSD is compassionate and conveyed skillfully. He has a tragic past that has contributed to his PTSD, but he is considerate and very careful with Katrina. It takes time for him to come into his own, to learn to build his own support system, and open up to Katrina but it is a beautiful journey to watch.
The novel is also very diversity. In the author’s note, Rai discusses diversity of the Punjabi culture, which she generously shares with readers.
Katrina and Jasvinder are a lovely couple. There is no question they are perfect for each other, despite their mutual issues. Their love grows organically over time – they have many years of friendship behind them and in consequence, they know and understand each other well. When they give in to their feelings, it is deeply satisfying. A gentle romance filled with funny, tender moments, and a couple you can’t help rooting for.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Katrina has built a private life, keeping herself basically anonymous, and rarely leaving her own house. Then an unsolicited photo of her talking with a cute stranger, along with a fictitious conversation that supposedly starts their relationship, goes viral. Her bodyguard (and secret crush) takes her away from it all to his hometown where they can both retreat, just the two of them.
There is just the right balance of romance and sex, comedy and serious issues. Deals with PTSD, abuse, panic, and family issues. I enjoyed this one better than the first. The characters and plot well-developed. I like that minor characters from the first have become main characters here and vice versa. You wouldn’t need to read the first book before reading this one.
