I received an ARC from Book Sirens for an unbiased review.
Mercy Harbor book two Girl Eight is absolutely excellent. I am big fan of this author having first found her when I read the Veronica Lee series.
This series starts off with a fast paced page-turner that kept me deeply engaged.
Eden Winthrop and detective Nessa Ainsley are very well developedand intriguing characters. I love the dynamics and the slowly formed trust these women develop as they become determined to solve the tragic murders in a normally a quit peaceful community.
I can’t say enough about Girl Eight this is a fantastic page-turner, very suspenseful and it kept me guessing about who was behind the murders/kidnappings. As Eden pursuits the killer Leo Steele, a recurring character that is both a complication and a comfort to Eden through a long-standing past that is fraught with it’s own tension and dynamics tries to help as the cases seem to somehow tie to his own mother’s death.
This book is well written, action packed and moves at a steady pace. Definitely a great series and I will soon begin Catch the Girls. The next book in the series.
I feel many of the books can be stand alone but I highly recommend reading the books in order otherwise you miss crucial character developments that really lend to the overall storyline and story Arc.
I loved the narrator truly well done!

Wow!!! From the onset this is a page-turner. The suspense, intensity, insanity, and on-going relationship development is engrossing. Once again Melinda Woodhall has created a novel that encompasses all kinds of feelings and lots of illegal and scary chaos. The twists just get more and more strange yet remain believable especially in today’s unpredictable world. I would strongly suggest you read the first book River Girls before this one. It is helpful and creates the relationship dynamics and event history that twists and grows through this book.
This story is about a serial killer that the police have not been able to catch in a decade. But there is a vulnerable girl missing so Eden Winthrop turns to Detective Nessa Ainsley for help in catching him. Eden puts herself out there for the killer to catch in hopes of stopping him. Leo Steele is trying to find his mother’s killer and get Eden to notice him in a more than friendly way. But secrets come out of the past that may destroy things. Does Eden get the killer and save the girl? What are the secrets? You will have to read the book to find out. I would like to thank BookSirens for a free copy of this book for me to voluntarily read and review.
He’s done it 7 times already … now he’s ready for Girl # 8. The room is all ready for another occupant …. and he has his eye on the next victim. He’s been active for well over a decade, so he’s not worried now about getting caught.
Eden Winthrop who runs Mercy House teams up with Detective Nessa Ainsley when one of the vulnerable girls staying at the refuge goes missing.
And while Eden is pursuing a serial killer, Leo Steele is investigating his mother’s death. That is where Eden, Leo, and Nessa collide….
This is second in a riveting thriller and while easily read as a stand alone, I highly recommend start with the first book. The pace is fast, suspense is nigh, and characters are deftly drawn. This is an excellent followup to THE RIVER GIRLS.
Many thanks to the author / BookSirens for the digital copy of this crime fiction. This has been read and reviewed voluntarily. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Great book! This story line is wonderfully thought out and written. It keeps you hooked and just when you think you have things figured out, you don’t. Well worth the read! Highly recommend.

Wow!! The ending…. Wow!! I did not see that coming. Once again Eden is fighting for the under dogs and it appears that Leo will be by her side now! Yay!! I love the characters in this series – Nessa, Jankowski and Barker – just to name a few! Melinda Woodhall knows how to hook you in so you can’t put the book down. Now it is on to #3 in the series! Will Leo finally get a answers about his mother’s gruesome death? You will have to read it to find out!!
Girl Eight is a fast-moving murder/abduction mystery, the second in the Mercy Harbor series. The first two books in the series are quite good. I had to force myself to quit reading last night at about 2:00 a.m. Since I was only a little over half through at that point, it was a good thing, lol. The characters are well-developed. The crimes keep popping up as you read. I enjoyed reading it. Although Girl Eight could be read as a standalone, having read the first book increased my understanding of the characters.
I read Girl Eight as a free ARC. The above review is my opinion and is given voluntarily.
The series is getting better IMO. Once again a sadistic serial killer is menacing the citizens of Willow Bay. Eden et al strive to unmask the killer in their midst. The book also incorporates an element from book one as Leo and Eden work on unresolved cases, one touching close to home. Secrets, danger, scandal, drama and murder flesh out this book, while adding more dimension to the established characters.

This is a wonderful book. It can be read as a stand alone, but it is much better when read after The River Girls. I didn’t want to stop reading this book as Eden and her team race against not only a serial killer, but a hurricane. New, helpful characters are added to help with the search for a missing person. I highly recommend this book.
Girl 8 is the second book in the series. It picks up with the main characters from the first, so it helps to have read the first book. The suspense and mystery are good. It has a variety of twists and turns and a few surprises. You don’t know who to trust. The characters are well written and we learn a little more about them. The book has a good pace and does have a satisfying end. It makes me interested to read more from this author. I received a copy from BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving a review.
