Ms. Shay is an excellent writer, and this book did not disappoint. It is a standalone book, although the series is based around an entire family. It is amazing how so many characters from one family can each have a separate story about them, that’s woven together by family magic. This was my first book in the series, and the list of characters and their roles at the beginning of the book helped quite a bit. Don’t be intimidated though- it is an easy novella to read.
I absolutely adore this author. I get lost in each of the stories. I get so totally engrossed in the stories that I almost burn out my e-reader turning the pages as quickly as I can so I can finish. The downside, the story ends way too fast!
I was on an emotional roller-coaster ride with this one. There were times when I laughed, cried, cheered and jeered. Yes, there were moments when tissues were needed on this one. I totally fell in love with Gideon in this story. I wasn’t too sure about him in prior stories but here, damn he was HOT!
Gideon is passed over for a promotion due to an back injury he sustained (in the prior book) and his dream job goes to Anabelle. These two have been attracted to each other for a while now. They have a one-night stand after a family member’s wedding (also in the prior book). They are fighting the attraction as she is now his boss. Anabelle is a tiny bit stronger in this department but not by much.
Gideon’s is a divorced father of three children. His ex-wife up and leaves the children with him for two years while she lives in France. The children are having a hard time with abandonment issues, especially the oldest daughter, Carina. Gideon has a full plate on his shoulders to deal with.
While this is a part of a series, you really don’t have to read the prior books to thoroughly enjoy this one. That being said though, I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone OVER the age of 18 (as there are a few “sexy” scenes that really are either glossed over or take place behind closed doors). The prior characters make multiple appearance throughout.
I adored the dual POV format that the author writes in. The characters really become more humanistic this way. In fact, the author does write in a multiple POV format. Here it is the Carina and the last cousin, Ronan.
We saw the attraction and tension between Gideon and Anabelle building up and now we get to see what becomes of it. The frustration Gideon feels for being passed over for a job through no fault of his own is understandable as well as him trying to leave his issues at the door when he works is totally understandable, while Anabelle tries to create and enhance the new team she is in charge of. I love their dedication to their jobs but I’m gutted for how they don’t feel they can be together and you feel the struggle they go through which include some highs and lows, laughs and danger. This is another great addition to this series and I can not wait to read the next one!!!
I love the continuance of the Casella Cousins books with Gideon’s story. Anabelle and Gideon’s story is driven by two drivers – work and family. The dynamic and connection between the two of them is very deep. Gideon’s relationship with his family and his children (as well as his ex-wife) is a big part of the story. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to Ronan’s story next.
ARC for honest review with no compensation
Gideon is book 5 in the Casella Cousins series and a standalone novella but reading the prior books gives you a better understanding as you continue with this series!
Gideon a police officer gets hurt during a rescue at the end of the last book and during recovery he loses the promotion he coveted. Now back on the force and assigned to a special task force, his new boss is Annabel Sanders. These two have butted heads numerous times but there is an undercurrent they can’t deny. Will they be able to work together, keep hands off, give life and love a second chance or are they both to hardened by life?
Great read! I’ve volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. Gideon is the fifth book in The Casella Cousins series. This is Gideon and Annabelle’s story. Gideon’s story is a very nice addition to this great series about a very loving, devoted and strong family. Gideon is a divorced police officer with three kids. Annabelle is also divorced and she too wants Gideon but she’s his boss. Gideon and Annabelle are great together. The Casella Cousins is full of love, intrigue and emotions that make this a truly wonderful series. I love the way that Kathryn writes it makes and you feel part of the story, and the characters come to life. I’m looking forward to the next story in this series. Keep up the amazing work! I HIGHLY recommend ALL of Kathryn Shay books.
“Gideon (The Casella Cousins Book 5) by Kathryn Shay was a great addition to the series. This is the story of Gideon Casella and Anabelle Sanders. Gideon is a detective for the police department and lost out on a promotion for a special task force due to an injury that keep him away. His ex wife leaves him to pick up the pieces of his three children hearts when she leaves the country. He has plenty of family to help with the children. Anabelle Sanders get the promotion he wants and he is not happy about it. But figures if he wants to work on the task force, he has no choice to work under her. There has always been some chemistry between them and they have shared a night after a wedding they both attended. But now that Anabelle is his boss that can never happen again. See how life journey takes them. Do they end up together or don’t they.
I must say that Gideon was a bit of a mystery to me as I read the previous Casella cousins books. He seemed angry and dealt a bad hand in both his work and home life. It was easy NOT to put this book down as it was action packed from beginning to end. Kathryn Shay showed her talents as her character juggled all areas of life and make some tough decisions. I was glued to the pages till the very end. Loved reading Gideon’s story.
The Casella family is a very interesting bunch.
Gideon is a divorced police officer with three kids and is in heavy just with his rival on the police for Annabelle. Annabelle is also divorced and she too wants Gideon but she’s his boss.
Gideon is one of those characters you can relate to. He realizes he let his family down by putting his job first but he also knows his kids need him now. He wants to be a better dad and he needs to answer some tough questions on how to do just that.
Annabelle is a strong female who climbed her way to her position. She lost her marriage along the way but she needed to be true to herself.
These two are meant for each other. They just need to figure out how to fit it all in with work and family.
I received this book in exchange for a fair review. I love this series. Not just this story of 2 people who have been in competition and find that they can’t forget each other or ignore the feelings that keep keep reminding each other that they connect. To my surprise, the thing that I enjoy more than anything is the contacts and reminders of the interactions with the other Casella cousins. There was something so credible and real about the family relationships and the support that both Anabelle and Gideon know they can count on. I love the reality Kathryn Shay provides in her writing, both in presenting professions we may not know a lot about and in creating people we would love as friends and neighbors.
An emotional story on many different levels. Have the tissues handy.
Gideon is divorced and raising his three children alone with the help of his large family after his ex left the country and signed the kids and house over to him for the next 2 years. Anabelle is also divorced and received the promotion that Gideon was also up for. The two of them have hooked up before she became his boss and while they are trying to adjust to the situation and stay away from each other, they are having difficulties doing that. When their team is handed a difficult loss they are there for each other but Gideon is facing personal issues that must also be confronted. This story covers some tough issues like domestic violence and gangs but also looks at the stresses and decisions our first responders and their families are faced with on a daily basis. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
“I’m gonna start saying that Gideon is way more than what he seems in the blurb. Yes, the way his attitude is described you can easily have a bad perception of him but trust me, this is a book you want to read. That man is really appealing and did I mention he’s a single father? His kids do have a mom but she was bussing on Europe doing other things instead of being a mama but anyway there’s always something more attractive when they’re single fathers. Then Annabelle entered in the picture and she’s the new boss and well things were exactly going right. Yes, the attraction was unmistakeable but she also faced two option staying with the man that could be his true love or choosing her job. It was a ride full of emotions. Another great addition to the Casella Cousins series that I absolutely loved and recommend it to you.”
This was Gideon and Anabelle’s story. Through work issues, family matters, and more, these two tried to define their relationship: friends, lovers, or more. The heat between Anabelle and Gideon was strong, strong enough for Gideon to make the changes in his life to benefit everyone involved. This was a good story and I look forward to the next story.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
When a promotion is denied Detective Gideon Casella after an injury sidelines him, he is left to pick up the pieces and move on with his life. Making things more difficult is the fact his new boss is the one Gideon has feelings for and is who received the promotion instead of Gideon. When Annabelle receives the tank of Sergeant instead of Gideon, they all have to figure out a way to work together while putting their feelings aside. When everything in Gideon’s life turns upside down, is he able to turn it around and find what is truly important in life?
Join the Casella family as we follow Gideon, Annabelle and his children through real life situations in which she handles with care, compassion and dignity. I truly enjoy Ms. Shay’s books and look forward to many more. I was given a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
The Casella Cousins are fast becoming like family members and I’m really enjoying this series of novellas each featuring a different cousin, this is a Gideon and Anabelle’s story and it’s book 5.
Gideon is not happy about being passed over for a promotion and when he finds himself working under Anabelle on a special task force he takes his frustrations out on her, what he didn’t expect was a feisty, strong woman who takes no nonsense from any one man or woman….
Anabelle holds her own in a mans world and she gives as good as she gets but she can see the hurt this man is feeling so she cuts him some slack and that’s when the games begin.
A quick entertaining read thats has the perfect mix of passion, sizzling chemistry and some witty banter. There is plenty of action in this book and it has a fair few twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat and to keep you turning the pages.
Gideon Casella, a detective for the police department didn’t get the promotion he wanted after he was injured. The woman he slept with once did get said promotion and he’s having a hard time coming to terms with that. His ex-wife has left him with 3 small children to care for and he wouldn’t have it any other way. The very large, and loving Casella family always pulls together to help each other out.
Annabelle Sanders is now Gideon’s boss and isn’t sure what to do with all the emotions that brings up. After being with Gideon once she isn’t so sure that not letting it happen again is a good idea. She is torn between her job and the man who could be “the one”.
Gideon’s story is a very nice addition to this great series about a very loving, devoted and strong family. There are also some tears in this story but in doing so brings up a really important topic of gang related violence. The story flows very well and the characters are strong and very well developed. Annabelle hasn’t been my favorite female character but that’s just me. She and Gideon seemed to fit together quite nicely when all was said and done. I loved the ending where things always come together for our hero and heroine.
Great Book!! Ms Shay packs a lot of story in this novella. She expertly tackles issues dealing with crime, teenage problems, gangs and relationships. We met Gideon and Annabella in previous books in this series so it was good to read their story and get to know them better as they work through their problems to find love. I love that the Casella family is so supportive of each other and takes care of their own. This is a great series that with great characters and sub-stories. I’m looking forward to the upcoming conclusion with Ronan’s story and the questions about his distance from the family.
4 star Review Gideon (The Casella Cousins #5) by Kathryn Shay
I have been thoroughly enjoying the novellas in The Casella Cousins series from Kathryn Shea. This is the fifth book in the series and is Gideon and Anabelle’s story and was an entertaining read. The writing was strong, with characters that were easy to relate to and a story line that you cannot help but become invested in.
When Gideon he is past over for a promotion and then forced to work under Anabelle on a special task force he is furious. Gideon frustrated me with his “he man” attitude, in fact it really annoyed me on occasion. However the author did manage to turn my opinion around and I eventually fell for him as underneath the brash exterior is a man who has been hurt.
Sparks fly and I loved how feisty, sassy and driven Anabelle was. She could hold her own in what is perceived as a man’s world and could give as good as she got. She certainly had Gideon’s number and called him out when required, I liked that.
There was plenty of action and the journey for Anabelle and Gideon is rocky but will they make it in the end? Or will they be torn apart?
Katherine Shay has hit another home run with Gideon! The latest Casella Cousins novella is about Gideon, a policeman who is separated from his wife and raising three children on his own while trying to maintain his job, sanity and feelings for the woman who becomes his superior officer. This is another riveting story in the ongoing saga of the Casella family…….don’t miss it!
