The pain was so horrible that she’d have to get better to die. Maybe it was better this way. Maybe death would end the tremendous grief in her heart. At least in death she wouldn’t have to listen to her sister Cora’s constant harping. … to her sister Cora’s constant harping.
Gideon and his dragon counterpart Ominia weren’t sure how to handle Gracie. She was their mate and they were happy to have found her, but her intense grief over the loss of her family had them stumped on how to proceed.
The encounter with the griffin had more effect on Gracie than she knew. His magic now flowed within her. Gracie could now see and speak with the dead, and the former king, Anthony had a message for the new King of Dragons, Asher.
Now thrust in a world of dragons and magic, Gracie’s head was spinning. And how was she to handle two very handsome and amorous mates? Things like that just didn’t happen to her.

‘Gideon’ is book five in Kathi S. Barton’s “Dragon’s Savior” series. I have to admit, I somehow overlooked book four, Shane, and went right to this one so I was a bit confused with the mention of an addition mate and children’s names I didn’t recognize, so forgive me that my reviews are out of order. That being said, I could follow the storyline and the main theme didn’t change so this could be read as a standalone if you so choose. If you’ve read the blurb then you know there’s a lot going on. Gracie has suffered through the tragedy of losing her husband and her four-month-old daughter. Plus add the fact that she’s the one who has the deranged, crazy family member (you know there is one in every story, right?) While out hiking she thought a griffin was trying to harm a child and proceeded to protect him. Bolrock, the griffin, wasn’t actually trying to hurt anyone but managed to do so anyway. Now, because her injuries were so severe, Gracie has part of his magic which allows her to talk to the dead. Gideon and Ominia are thrilled to have their mate but aren’t quite sure how to approach this. In the meantime, the castle is being rebuilt and a bit more of the magic is unlocked. What a surprise that was revealed. More and more is tying things together and bringing past decisions to light making this a truly magical storyline that’s hard to put down.
As each mate comes to the Dragon pairs more and more comes to help out the family. Lelani (Shane and Keion’s mate) has already helped out the family. But now she’s about to help heel the whole that’s been left in the family dynamic when Sally died. Sally is now awake and the castle is moving along at a faster progress than the family thought it would.
Gracie has set up on an adventure to try and find herself and get away from the harping of her sister Cora. In the woods she never expected to get attacked by a griffin, but if she was going to die, she was glad it was away from her sister and she could finally be with her deceased husband and baby. However, when she survives she doesn’t know what to believe. She’s being told there is magic and dragons, and oh lets not forget she now has 2 mates!
Gideon and Ominia knew from the moment they saw Gracie that she was important to them. For them their mission is clear to make their mate happy. But the loss that Gracie lives through is not something they can just wish to be rid of for her, and her sister harping that their deaths is her fault doesn’t help her depression.
This one is actually one of my favorite stories in this series. I loved that although Gideon and Ominia knew that their mate would be coming they weren’t against having her, and they didn’t just accept her because it was fate they honestly cared for Gracie and love her. All that’s left is Simeon and we’ve learned that we now need all the mates to come to the home to help complete the castle and hopefully bring about the dragon king and queen in longer periods.
