Like several other readers, I expected this read to be a thriller. It isn’t! I consider it to be well within the chick-lit genre and although it covers some deeper themes it is a light, easy read. It follows a young woman as she juggles a demanding and often emotionally draining job, friendship and dating.
The book will appeal to young female readers who will relate to Violet, a fun-loving girl who enjoys her work as a mid-wife and spending time with her best friend, Zoe. She does have a track record of coercive relationships but I can’t say more without spoilers. The book gives an insight into modern-day midwifery and Violet is affected by a young woman in her care who has serious complications.
An enjoyable, light read that touches upon some heavier subjects.
This book will give you pause into looking at the relationships in your life – those that are new and old and how they have changed. Our main characters are Violet and Zoey who have been best friends since forever until one day everything seems to change. Huge kudos to the character growth and the devotion these friends have – a great read that will have you wondering what would I do if…
Narration was beautiful, smooth and easy to follow the storyline that Rowney provides with characters that you become part of.

I absolutely loved Ghosted. Violet and Zoey have been best friends forever. They tell each other everything. They are there for one another in the worst of times (the book opens with some distressing and extremely well written abuse scenes that suck you right in.) So when Zoey abruptly disappears, ghosting her, Violet can’t understand what’s going on.
Without revealing too many details that would spoil this delicious women’s fiction read, this delves into relationships, both of the friendship and romantic variety, domestic abuse, anxiety, and is also part a medical drama (which I loved! So detailed and added a lovely side plot as Violet works with her patients in her role as a midwife.) As Violet navigates a new relationship, she struggles to figure out what’s going on with Zoey, and why at every turn, she is thwarted to discover any answers. I really enjoyed this one and am excited to see there are more Violet and Zoey books!
Interesting read. Zoe and Violet have been best friends for years. Zoe is, by all appearances, happily married and has a job she loves as a teacher, while Violet goes from one abusive relationship to another, works a demanding job as a midwife, and in the purchase, she is ghosted by her best friend for no apparent reason…at first. Why and what’s really going on? Find out in Ghosted.
This story is about a strong friendship. This story is about emotional abuse. This story is about being a midwife. And all the feels and emotions that goes along with these aspects of Violet’s life. It is very deep and well told. I enjoyed it as I, too, am in the medical field.
The Audible version that I listened too was performed very well.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Story Origin.
Ghosted, my first read from author J.E. Rowney. Enjoyable medical drama/women’s friendship. 5-hours 7-minutes and 243 pages, but reads longer with the twists, turns & detail written into it. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Narrator Janet Coulson’s narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. I look forward to reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
This an interesting read with relatable characters. There is suspense, drama, and medical drama is this easy to read chic lit story. I’m not usually into chic lit, but it was a good listen and I’d recommend it to fans of chic lit drama.
