Yasmine is a wonderful story teller. There is danger, intense moments and a lot of heart. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more of her work.
I started this book with high expectations. The protagonist, Emerald O’Brien, is the owner of a tea shop where she does tarot readings. She also happens to channel spirits.
So, when a writer is found dead, the ghost of the writer appears to Emerald, and wants her to help find her murderer. Of course the husband is the prime candidate.
All seems really great – right?
And the book WAS entertaining until the author writes in a graphic sex scene! And I’m like – what the flup is that!!!!! [Only I used a harsher word than ‘flup’ – but we need to be PC here 🙂 ].
WHAT is a graphic sex scene doing in a COZY?
Anyway, that sex scene turned me off to the entire book. It did not make me go all aflutter. Instead it was more like – gag me with the fork, the spoon, the knife and the machete!
I immediately stopped reading it and I haven’t gone back. And I probably won’t.
If I wanted to read a book with steamy sex scenes in it, I’d read one of Anne Rice’s – A.N. Roquelaure books [I’ve read all of them]. At least she does a far better job at it than Yasmine.
Rant over 🙂
If someone does read this book – I hope you will post to let me know how it ends.
Blessings.
A good murder-mystery. It was a fun read. Quite enjoyable.
It was a o.k. book.
Great book.
Kept me engaged
I really like this series. Realistic, despite the slightly unbelievable basic premise. Enjoyable and realistic characters, look forward to reading more.
cute magic on the lighter side characters r easily understood great series
Emerald opens the china shop after her divorce with her two children. She sees ghosts and one come to visit her and say her husband killed her. She’s a famous romance writer who is wealthy. She gets help from another romance writer in town who thinks Susan’s husband did kill her. The police arrest Susan’s husband but he is already wealthy and doesn’t need Susan’s money so Emerald wonders if the wrong man was arrested. A number of twists in the book to miss direct as to who is the guilty party.
Usually do not read books about “spirits” but thoroughly enjoyed this. The author really kept me wanting to read! Will ready more by books by author.
Paranormal mystery. A ghost visits a divorced shop owner asking for help with her murder. And then the wackiness begins. Easy to read with likable characters.
I really enjoyed the characters. It was funny, charming and entertaining. Interesting characters.
The character’s are great. You understand the live of a mother and her children. Enjoy when she talks about the tea room. Interesting how Emerald talks to the dead and tries to find out who murder Susan. Makes you laugh
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
What a haunting mystery! Gritty in some places, not for young or maybe even mid- teens. Had some twists. I liked the single Mom/shop-owner. Some real moments. The ghostly moments were not real…unless you DO believe in ghosts! I’m looking forward to reading this author’s next book.
Fun to read. A big new look at the way to write a story ,of this kind.
It was okay but I won’t be reading anything else by this author. Just not what I expected.
I enjoyed her entire series and looking to venture into her other books. If you enjoy fantasy and mystical beings this is the series for you.
I loved the book!! Emerald O’Brien is a single mom who’s trying to raise her kids, run a business, and keep her home demon free!! I love the characters in this book, and the ending is definitely a surprise!! I will be reading more books in this series!
I enjoyed this mystery and super natural story. I believed the characters and had suspicions that were all over the place. It is definitely a COZY. No for the hard hitting but a perfect mix for the cozy crowd, like me. Somehow tea rooms with gift shopping an sweet buns works for me.
