Whoever said that ghosts exist must be out of their mind.Oh, wait. That was me. I said that. If you’d told me yesterday that ghosts were real I would have smiled, nodded, and called a shrink to fix your deluded little mind. Now it’s my turn to question my sanity when the ghost of my best friend turns up in my apartment. Was it the tequila shots the night before causing this apparition? Or one too … apparition? Or one too many bumps to the head — let’s face it, clumsy is my middle name, it really wouldn’t surprise me if I’d done some irreparable damage to my grey matter over the years.
Now I have to accept that the paranormal does, in fact, exist. But sadly, my ghost friend is lacking something besides his body. His memory. He doesn’t know how he died but suspects foul play and he wants my help to find his killer. I can’t refuse, I’m a sucker for a good mystery and the chance to bring my friends killer to justice is too good to pass up.
Surprises abound as I discover a secret talent for sleuthing, not to mention an unexpected inheritance of a talking cat among other things. But the biggest problem of all? Captain Cowboy Hot Pants, or as he likes to be called, Detective Kade Galloway of the Firefly Bay PD. He’s one smokin’ cop, but my distrust of the police runs deep and despite his assurances that he’s here to help can I really trust him, or is his offer of assistance designed to keep me from discovering the truth?
I guess I’ll find out when death comes knocking on my door.
Join Audrey Fitzgerald in the Ghost Detective series, a paranormal cozy mystery featuring a cat, a ghost, and a murder to solve.

I read this book in one sitting – I just could not leave it. It was amusing, the situations seemed so believable, and the repartee between the two best friends was so well done, I spent half of the time seeing this book as a movie in my mind. Can’t wait for the next book! Please hurry Jane.
Great start to a new series! Audrey finds her best friend, Ben, sleeping on her couch, but he seems a bit…odd…because he has become a ghost. With Ben at her side, Audrey sets out to discover what happened to her friend. This entertaining cozy mystery is well written, has an interesting plot and amusing characters. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Jane Hinchey has done it again. Such a wonderful new series! So much fun! The characters are wonderful and the mysteries fantastic. I want more!
Ghost Mortem : Book #1 (The Ghost Detective Series) : Jane Hinchey.
A GREAT WAY TO START OFF A NEW COZY MYSTERY SERIES!
Hell Have no Fury like an ‘Old Crazy Pants’ scorned.
Butt word of warning; stay on the good side of the elderly neighbours, hold your breathe and keep those cheeks clenched for dear-life cos that ending sure is a stinker. Literally!
After just completing an epic read of all proportions, one full of non-stop action, heavy in characters & circumstance, I needed something easy, but fun to read. Something lower in carbs & calories, light ‘n’ tasty, with flair ‘n’ fun, something invigorating,
rejuvenating and uplifting whilst still being entertaining and refreshing at the same time.
That’s when I always reach for My Go-To Author, Queen of Cozy’s, Adelaide’s very own author Extraordinaire, Ms Jane Hinchey and I’m lucky to have her latest, almost released book (April 30th 2020) in the light-hearted Rom-Com ‘Ghost Mortem,’ for a refreshing change of pace and palate cleanse.
Ghost Mortem is book #1 in a new light-hearted uplifting paranormal cozy mystery series with a bunch of adorable characters, a dash of magic, a pinch of witchcraft & rituals, with tonnes of the most deliciously hilarious laugh out loud moments that will have you rolling on the floor holding your stomach (in more ways than one), but word to the wise,
you may just want to keep a can of Glen-20 or Lysol on hand & don’t forget to pinch your nose from the stench.
Audrey Fitzgerald is a 29 y.o. professional temp, who’s great with figures and a spreadsheet. She’s sharp as a tack & nothing much gets past her (unless its her own ass over head), she’s the sweet as pie gal next-door type, with one big drawback, Audrey is as clumsy as an ox, if there’s a way to trip over it, spill it or embarrass the hell out of herself and others, this adorable klutz will find it, but its not just Audrey that pays the price for her hilarious antics, for with friends like ‘Fitz’ who needs enemies right? No, but seriously you may just want to take out life and health insurance!
After coming into an inheritance, Audrey’s whole life changes, there’s new cases to go with a new business, a new car, a new home along with customary nosy neighbour who never misses a beat, a new ghost with amnesia, the not so new moronic cops with a grudge, plus the sexy new cop in town (she’d like to cop a feel of) and of course there’s Thor,
a pompous British hairy asshole with attitude, one whose been plotting her demise since they first met.
Falling over and into every crazy in the town of Firefly Bay and inheriting a caseload of crazy, just how long can Audrey stay sane or will the crazy’s of Firefly Bay infect Fitz before she too succumbs to a case of the crazies or the crazy themselves?
Well one things for sure your in for a caseload of crazy!
Brilliantly written & edited as usual.
A traditional hallmark & calling card in Jane Hinchey’s bag of tricks.
I RATE GHOST MORTEM 4.5 OUT OF 5
A cleverly delicious way to start of a new series & can not wait to read book#2 so we get a deeper dive into the residents of Firefly Bay and her new Private Investigator in training.
I received an ARC of Ghost Mortem from the author & this is my fair, honest, impartial review as always.

Witty and Fun New Paranormal Cozy Series
This book is the first in a new series. I so enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more. The story is funny, exciting, and fast-moving. The mystery is very well done with some great twists. The paranormal element is going to be fun, as well. Just in this book, there is a ghost, a talking cat, a witch, and a great looking detective. I received this book for free from the author and this is my honest review.
How would you feel if you went out for drinks one night with your best friend and wake up the next morning to that same friend sleeping on your couch – but now he’s a ghost? Well, just ask Audrey – she knows. Now she wants to find Ben’s killer – and with ghostly Ben tagging along and a talking cat named Thor, she is determined to do just that. However, when Ben’s will is read, she finds herself the owner of his PI business and now she is getting involved in something bigger than she had planned.
Audrey is a very likeable character – she is clumsy, bright and inquisitive, unafraid…and she may just have a teeny tiny unfortunate attraction to Detective Galloway! Ghostly Ben, Talking Cat Thor and cutie Detective Galloway round off the cast of great characters – and I didn’t guess Ben’s killer which is always a plus for me as a reader! Looking forward to Audrey’s next adventure.
I have been a fan of this author for quite a while, and I was glad when she started writing cozy paranormals. This is a new series, and I think it’s probably the best I’ve read by this author. I love the main character who is clumsy, but she still has a great outlook on life, she’s smart, and she’s a go-getter. The author also introduces us to her best friend in a good way, and I love that she is still mourning him even as he’s still around. The attraction between her and Kade was awesome…I just can’t say enough good things about this book. I think this is going to be an excellent series, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next! Highly recommend! I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I really enjoyed reading this book , it has a good storyline, it is entertaining and filled with action and adventure. The chemistry and interaction between the characters is wonderful. I can’t wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Ghost Mortem: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery Romance is the first book in the Ghost Detective series by Jane Hinchey.
I really enjoyed this book. As a klutz myself, I can relate to Audrey, though I’m not nearly as clumsy as she is.
A lot of first in series books are a little slow paced with introducing the characters and setting up the environment. This book was fast paced.
It had everything I like in a book: good cast of characters, humor, interesting plot, and it left me wanting to read the next book.
Let me start by saying this book was hilarious.. no it was beyond hilarious.. is there such a thing?? Well if there isn’t, there needs to be so this book can be given the props it deserves 🙂
By far the funniest book I’ve ever read that has a P.I., a talking cat, a ghost, and a hunky detective.
The laugh out loud moments were plenty.. as in throughout the whole story. There is a murder to solve, but even then it was still a fantastically funny book.
I would read this book more than once! I absolutely loved reading this, and can NOT wait to see what happens in upcoming books in the series..
Brava J. Hinchey.. this book goes to the top of my fave reads in the cozy department 🙂
My goodness this book is so very good! The characters are so relatable, I can totally relate to Audrey, I am quite clumsy as well! There are things that will make you burst out laughing, a grand mystery to solve. And of course a handsome cop! I highly recommend this book, get to know these characters and then beg with me for the next book in the series to be released soon!
The beginning of the book was difficult to get through – the main character being a ” clumsy mess” and I really didn’t know where the author was going with her. She changed and developed into an interesting person who could actually function and accomplish things. I loved the best friend ghost who helped her and Thor the cat that could communicate with her. It was a fun read and I look forward to the next book in the series.
I absolutely loved this book. It was a terrific read and I am going to be anxiously awaiting all books to follow.
If you have not read Jane’s books yet, do yourself a favor and start with this one. You won’t be sorry!
