Whoever said that ghosts exist must be out of their mind.Oh, wait. That was me. I said that. If you’d told me yesterday that ghosts were real I would have smiled, nodded, and called a shrink to fix your deluded little mind. Now it’s my turn to question my sanity when the ghost of my best friend turns up in my apartment. Was it the tequila shots the night before causing this apparition? Or one too … apparition? Or one too many bumps to the head — let’s face it, clumsy is my middle name, it really wouldn’t surprise me if I’d done some irreparable damage to my grey matter over the years.
Now I have to accept that the paranormal does, in fact, exist. But sadly, my ghost friend is lacking something besides his body. His memory. He doesn’t know how he died but suspects foul play and he wants my help to find his killer. I can’t refuse, I’m a sucker for a good mystery and the chance to bring my friends killer to justice is too good to pass up.
Surprises abound as I discover a secret talent for sleuthing, not to mention an unexpected inheritance of a talking cat among other things. But the biggest problem of all? Captain Cowboy Hot Pants, or as he likes to be called, Detective Kade Galloway of the Firefly Bay PD. He’s one smokin’ cop, but my distrust of the police runs deep and despite his assurances that he’s here to help can I really trust him, or is his offer of assistance designed to keep me from discovering the truth?
I guess I’ll find out when death comes knocking on my door.

Review:
This book is just what I look for in a cozy mystery. It is funny, has great characters, a great mystery and it has a ghost. I could not ask for anything else.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Audrey is smart, inquisitive and very down to earth. Her whole world changes when her best friend, Ben, is killed. He is now a ghost that only Audrey can see, and he wants her to figure out who killed him. She has to help him figure it out, but since he cannot remember anything, it will be up to her to catch the killer. Audrey has inherited his house, his PI practice and his talking cat, Thor. To say that Audrey’s life is complicated would be an understatement, but if anyone can handle it, it is her.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story right from the very beginning. The mystery was well plotted and carried on well throughout the entire book.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a ghostly cozy mystery. This book is a great beginning to an awesome series.
A fantastic read from start to finish. The story immediately pulls you in and holds your attention. I stayed up way too late every night reading this book. Very well thought out and written. Loved every minute of it!
I loved it. At first it was sad because of what happened to Ben. Then it was the same as when he was OK and around her all her life. That is what I liked about the story. I look forward to reading more of this series and finding out how things go with “Cowboy Hot Pants”.
Interesting storyline
The writer has an interesting storyline and plated it out well until about midway then seemed to loose momentum but found herself again in the ending. Nice start to a hopeful great new series.
There is language can’t remember if there was sexual references or not. But due to the language ( although mild) I probably wouldn’t suggest my advanced preteen reading friends read this. But for everyone else nice reading
Wow! I was thrilled to have found this book & author! “GHOST MORTEM” is the perfect magical who-dunnit, PNR cozy mystery with a totally fresh storyline! … Relatable characters, great descriptions with twists and turns that breathes life into the characters! … I was hooked from the start & turning pages like crazy not wanting to stop when I had to! … Even tho I borrowed this through my Amazon Prime Books free reading, I can honestly recommend this to fans of fiction and now I can’t wait to read the next book in this fantastic series and more from Ms. Hinchey!
Ghost Mortem is a fun cozy paranormal mystery romance. Audrey inherits her best friends PI business when she finds his body whilst accompanied by Ben’s ghost. Along with the business, the house, the car, and, of course, Thor, an English cat with an attitude. I loved the characters, especially Audrey and her clumsiness as she hunts for Ben’s killer. Her interactions with her bestie and the cat are hilarious, especially when she gets caught “talking to herself” by Detective Kade Galloway AKA Captain Cowboy Hot Pants. Though this is not usually the type of book I read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be picking up the next in the series.
This cozy mystery is a good, quick read. I laughed, I cried, I yelled at bad guys. What more could a person want?
The characters are all supportive of the storyline, and the mystery is so sad but very interesting at the same time.
I enjoyed meeting Audrey, Ben, and Kade. They kept the story moving along with humor, snark, and focus on the mystery. And I love the cat.
This book kicks off what is clearly bound to be another spectacular series by Jane Hinchey! With plenty of snark and sass, a bit of sadness and just enough romance, this mystery series leaves you plenty satisfied, but with so much to look forward to in future books. I can’t wait to see where this series goes. And I kind of want my own ghost best friend now!!
Fun beginning!
Ghost Mortem by Jane Hinchey has a clumsy but adorable lead character who comes very close to death. The next day she can see a ghost and talk with the host’s live cat! She works with the ghost to help solve his murder. Also helping, but not knowing her gift or the ghost, is a handsome cop! Humour abounds!
I loved Ghost Mortem! This book is fun and engaging. The characters are great. Audrey is interesting and relatable. This book is full of humor and adventure. The mystery has so many twists and turns to keep you guessing. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Waking up from a hangover and finding your best friends ghost laying on your couch can be very disturbing to say the least. He asks her to help him solve his murder. This story takes you all over the place and you arrive to a very unpredictable ending. The cat talking makes this a delightful read.
I loved this book, Audrey is someone your going to love from the start, Ben well he’s a loveable character also. Now detective Galloway that’s someone I think we’re all going to enjoy reading about.
This is a new series for Ms Hinchey and she just seems to flow seamlessly from one genre to the next. A wonderful talent to have a writer. I loved how this book ended the last chapter of the book especially at the end was classic. With fun, drama, murder and twists and turns its a great read.
This is a new series by Jane Hinchey. This is a great start to this series! I had a very hard time putting this book down. In this book, we meet Audrey Fitzgerald. She wakes up to find a ghost in her home and now she has to figure out what is going on. You definitely need to read this one!
Another fun and entertaining read from Jane Hinchey. In this book, Audrey Fitzgerald is a klutz. She’s always tripping and bumbling and stumbling. She’s also whip smart. Her best friend, Ben is murdered, but his ghost remains and communicates with Audrey. It up to her to work with ghostly Ben to solve his murder. Along the way, she’ll also get to work with a handsome copy, one who is investigating corruption in the police department. Is he a good guy, or not?
This book contains an interesting and well-plotted story, filled with humor and an unexpected end. It’s a quick, well-written read, and I enjoyed it very much. To be honest, Jane Hinchey never lets her readers down. If you enjoy paranormal mysteries, I suspect you’ll enjoy this book.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
I am so in love with Audrey! I fell in love with her on the first page of this book, and the longer the book went on the more I loved her. She is exactly the type of person I would love to know in the real world. That alone was enough for me to love this story, but then the story grabbed my attention as much as Audrey and I couldn’t tell you which was better. The mystery is well-written and keeps you guessing. There were moments that touched my heart, followed by moments that would make me giggle. That is exactly what I want in a cozy mystery, so I was well pleased. Then you add in the fun characters and their honest interactions, and I’m hooked. Seriously hooked. This series is going to one that I pre-order the books too and anxiously wait for each book release. It is fabulous from beginning to end!
I enjoyed this book very much. It has wonderful characters and keeps you guessing. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ghosts and mysteries. I received a free copy of this book.
A new paranormal heroine is on the scene in this new series by Jane Hinchey. Audrey Fitzgerald admits to being a bit of a clumsy woman who cannot hold down a job for very long. The problem is that she is unaware how special and smart she really is according to her best friend, Ben’s point of view. Ben is a private investigator with a very special cat named Thor with very definitive tastes in food and living the good life. After a night out with her bestie, Audrey discovered a murder of someone very dear to her, so it is up to her, Thor, and the hot Detective Kade Galloway to find the murderer before she is next!
What a fantastic start for this brand new paranormal series! Audrey is a whip-smart, courageous woman with a wicked sense of humor. I could be friends with her due in part to her and my love for Scooby Doo, that is a friendship made in Heaven, in my opinion. I LOVE this story with these sarcastically funny conversations between Ben, Thor, and Detective Kade Galloway. She did find her calling in the career department after solving this murder which is a perfect fit for her and for this reader. She could use a good dose of self- confidence to continue to grow in her new profession in future adventures. Ben is the perfect best friend to Audrey, supportive and giving her his honest opinions about the clues during the investigation. This storyline is quirky and creative, which I love, it kept my interest all the way through the book.
I got it that Audrey is clumsy in the first few pages of the book, that fact went on a bit too long for me, that can be fixed in future stories. I would love to see how Audrey and Ben became friends along with Audrey’s family paranormal history in future installments. That is a goldmine of stories that can last through several books, which will be a huge bonus for this reader.
Overall, this is a fabulous paranormal read full of laughs, snark, and a healthy dose of paranormal to satisfy readers. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I was given an ARC for an honest opinion.
OMG I loved this! A fun paranormal murder mystery complete with ghosts and a talking cat, what more could you possibly want? Ok throw in a funny but clumsy female mc as well as some other great characters and a fab fast paced storyline and you have yourself a great read that I would totally recommend!
