We chased them off Earth and most of the Solar System. The war still rages on, and every year young people are sent out to die, … rages on, and every year young people are sent out to die, far away from Earth.
Ethan Wang was born on the day of the invasion, during the chaos and turmoil of war, and now he´s ready to join the fight. But first he has to become a soldier, and survive his initiation into one of the toughest military units Earth ever mustered, the Ghost Legion.

Ethan was born on the first day of the war. He was also orphaned that day and the nurse adopted him. Now he is about to graduate high school. We get a glimpse of his high school life and a couple of his friends, Julian and Ariel. Ethan learns that he has been rejected by higher schooling and his future doesn’t look too promising with out the education. Andrea Christensen spins a good story taking our 3 through their surprise meeting at the recruiting office and through basic training. I’ve read other space operas where the main character goes into basic and we get a glimpse of what it’s like. Christensen spins a good story all through the training and the first encounter with thei enemy.
Sex is mentioned and nude bodies described, the activity is not detailed. Violence occurs and not overly graphic, for example “his torso lay there while his lower half was scattered all over.”
Good story, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The introduction and backstory about Ethan Wang makes an interesting read. You will enjoy the plot development surrounding Ethan and his friends as they progress from recruits to full legionnaires.
Good read
This story is a bit to easy, you don’t end up feeling the characters as much as I would like. Tragic things happen but the characters seem to glide along to the next adventure after a minimal amount of difficulty. It wasn’t bad, I read it to the end and didn’t dislike it but I didn’t love it either.
Believable characters, plot that builds, plenty of action at end of book to keep your interest for the next book.
Should continue the series.
I’m going to give this book the benefit of the doubt. There is no doubt that it is entertaining, and has good characters, but this first book has a simple and direct writing style that wastes little energy on elegance. Action starts early on in the book, and as we all do, I tried to compare it to other books that I have read. If I were to combine “Ender’s Game” and “Old Man’s War”, then stir it up a bit, you would get close to this story. I am planning on reading the next book in the series to see where it leads. It is a good book, but not space opera SciFi. Ethan Wang is a solid character, but he isn’t Honor Harrington.
Excellent space war adventure.
One of the rare books, where you could believe it could have happen to you.
Sci-Fi like it should be written.
A hot action packed military SiFi that you’ll burn thru in no time.
An alien race from deep space invades earth with the intent to mine its minerals. After the aliens slaughter billions, earth unites to push them off earth back to the edge of our solar system. The aliens however not content begin to creep back towards earth. Ethan Wang and other raw recruits are thrown at them once again. Read this page turner to find out who survives.

Too short!
A late teener maturing under the pressure of war.
Excellent story telling. Standard for this author.
