He was as magnetic as a deadly hurricane to the shore.Carson Cole was my first love. The boy I’d shared my whole self with.He was the man who’d taken the other part of my soul and drowned it in the sea we’d grown up in.And now he’s back. Ten years later, and the demons of our past are still haunting every breath trapped between us.She was as wild as the horses who owned the beach highways we … who owned the beach highways we drove down.
Blake Sayer was the beautiful daredevil who had me wrapped around her finger from the time we were seven.
Until a horrible accident stole every piece of joy from her life.
Ten years later, she’s a shell of the girl she once was, and it’s all my fault. The whispers of our history shackle her to the island I left behind.
Just like lost years and unspoken words, love had slipped from our fingers like grains of sand. We’d barely made it out alive last time, was it even possible to reconstruct the shattered pieces of us?

Ghost in his Eyes is a second-chance standalone romance. I have read Carrie’s last few books and they have all been different from one another. Its awesome because I never know what I am going to get especially since I have this habit of not reading the synopsis. If I know the author’s work then I don’t read it until I have to write the review. Speaking of review, here we go…
Ten years. That’s how long it’s been since Blake and Carson have been in the same room. Even the same city. They were inseparable for ten years of their lives. They knew they found someone special at seven. They were each other’s first everything. Then at seventeen their lives were forever changed. They went from ten years of being attached to ten years of not speaking. Carson left with regret. Blake became a shell of the woman she once was. Isolated in her home among the wild horses. And now…he was back.
Blake doesn’t want to see him. Doesn’t want the memories of their past. She doesn’t want to feel the pain. She knows what he wants. To talk about the past. To confront the demons. She wants nothing to do with it. But Carson is determined to show Blake that he also still cares about her. That he has his own demons to face. That if they talked then maybe, just maybe they can fight them together.
I am a big fan of second chance romance. It just gets to me. Especially when you feel that connection between the characters. Carson and Blake have that. But, they have some big issues to work out. Blake isn’t the same person Carson fell in love with. She is still independent, beautiful, and smart but she is colder, isolated and lost her wild side. Can Carson bring out her wild side again? Will they be able to come together to move on from their past so they can move forward with their future?
Overall…It’s a wonderful story about love, second chances, family, and wild horses. The characters are very likable, fun, flirty, and special. The writing is awesome and could feel the passion Carrie had for the story.
Quotes:
“So you’re back. Fine. Just stay away from me.”
“I get it, you’re wild and I can’t tame you. But I was never trying to tame you, Blake. I simply wanted to be the one you chose to have run by your side.”
“There are no words to describe how beautiful you are. Beautiful is not even a word that should apply to you, because you are so much more.”
Oh Carrie… you have outdone yourself lady!! I’ve been following you for a full year now and was able to catch up on your books and then I have read every single one as you have released them. You have turned me into a fan that will read and purchase your books without reading a work of the blurp… which is exactly what I did for Ghost in His Eyes. I had no idea what this book was about beforehand but with Carrie Aarons as the writer, I knew I would enjoy it!
Carrie gave us a second chance romance that wasn’t quite as angsty as I was expecting. I figured this book would rip my heart out and squash it on the ground…. Carrie only ripped my heart out. But, I enjoyed it! I mean, really, how much pain and heartbreak can one person endure before they break? Why is it that so many negative and/or bad things can happen to just one person? It just isn’t fair… can’t we spread this all around?
I LOVED how we had a story of three young children growing up together and having this special bond. It’s just lovely and how childhood should be! So once tragedy strikes everything changes for them. Sigh, this book is just so beautiful… Carrie’s writing and descriptions painted this wonderful imagery in my mind! You have two hurting and broken people who have said things then can never take back. This threesome’s friendship has changed forever.
Blake has sheltered herself off from everyone. She’s essentially turned into a hermit and ventures out very little. It’s hard to blame her after everything she has endured. Carson returns home after leaving for 10 years. Carson was everything to Blake… her first love, her friend since 7 years old. Now I’m not going much more into the story because everyone should be able to experience that for themselves. I can tell you that I loved Blake… my heart ached for her. All that loneliness, all that sadness in her… ugh, you can totally FEEL it!!
I love an author that can make me feel all the things in the book. I felt for these people… while I was reading this they became my friends. Heck, I’m still thinking of them and wishing them well!! This is a lovely book that had so much sweetness. It touched my heart! Carrie Aarons is writing some of the best books! It seems she knows no genre bounds… she’s a lady that can do it all!! Prepare yourself for this one… Aarons’ got a talent for making your heart ache but she’ll leave it feeling good!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Second chance romance between Blake Sayer and Carson Cole. They were best friends and then fell in love during high school a terrible tragedy tore them apart for 10 years. Carson comes back to town and fights to bring Blake back to the girl she once was. Very sweet special romance. Moved me, I really loved it.
Childhood sweetheart until a horrible accident torn them apart.
The heartache, the pain they let their grief take over them.
I liked this story you could feel the pain and anguish when they lost a loved one how they blamed themselves and ended up in hatred.
They tried to get over the heartache together and embrace life again.
It’s a great read very sad at times but you have to believe they will be better for it.
