Everybody dies. Nobody leaves . . . Award-winning author Scott William Carter returns with his tenth novel, a spellbinding tale of a man who bridges both sides of the great divide. After narrowly surviving a near-fatal shooting, Portland detective Myron Vale wakes with a bullet still lodged in his brain, a headache to end all headaches, and a terrible side effect that radically transforms his … transforms his world for the worse: He sees ghosts. Lots of them.
By some estimates, a hundred billion people have lived and died before anyone alive today was even born. For Myron, they’re all still here. That’s not even his biggest problem. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t tell the living from the dead.
Despite this, Myron manages to piece together something of a life as a private investigator specializing in helping people on both sides of the great divide—until a stunning blonde beauty walks into his office needing help finding her husband. Myron wants no part of the case until he sees the man’s picture … and instantly his carefully reconstructed life begins to unravel.
“Carter’s writing is on target.” – Publishers Weekly
“The Sixth Sense meets Spenser For Hire in Scott William Carter’s magnificent Ghost Detective.” – Michael J. Totten, author of Taken
“Scott is one of those rare writers who can and does cross genres, and do it well. You never know what kind of story you’ll get from him, but you do know that it’ll be good.” – Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Hugo award-winning author of The Disappeared
From the author of The Gray and Guilty Sea and Wooden Bones, comes this riveting novel of a man cursed with a terrible gift. In a world where everybody dies but nobody leaves, Myron Vale is the rare individual who completely straddles both sides of the great divide. His strange ability resulting from a gunshot to the head while serving as a Portland police officer, a few years later he recovers to forge a new life as private investigator catering to both the living and the dead. With its memorable characters, taut prose, and spellbinding story, Scott William Carter’s Ghost Detective will haunt you long after you finish the final pages — a promising launch to what will hopefully be a long-running series.—FRP

I read a lot. This is one of the best books I’ve read this year. Urban supernatural mysteries are fascinating and this book is a really good one of those.
Very disjointed, did not flow well. Unless you really get into the character this is not an easy read.
Not what I expected but thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good book
Gives you a whole new world on top of our world almost; there is a lot going on and you have to keep up – but definitely worth the read and you won’t see what’s coming!
The idea of a detective that could talk to ghost sounded like it could be a really good story. unfortunately this book did not come up to my expectations. It seemed to drag on and on.
Really jumped around a lot.
Interesting premise of a wounded former policeman who can now see and talk to “the departed” since his injury. Great characters and plot twists! Would like to read more books about the Ghost Detective!
Maybe just me but could not get interested
Imagine seeing the ghost of your dead murdered girl friend… YEAH! That kind of book.
Didn’t even go very far in the book. Not very interesting.
Hard to get into, but worth the effort.
Over all this was great reading.
Good original story but the author jumped around so extremely from one chapter to the next it made me shake my head trying to figure out what he was talking about and what time period it was now in, especially from chapter 22 to 23. Ch22 told a good story; I turned the page to ch23 and I didn’t know what he was talking about for a few …
Love this author. This is his second series I am reading and alway devour each book.
First time reading this author liked him very much would definitely read of his books
Original, but too depressing in all aspects. Needed more balance. Hard to understand what made the two main characters a couple to begin with. Disappointing, as the concept of a ghost detective was interesting, but I won’t be reading more from this author.
he writing was all over the place. i did not enjoy it at all
Enjoyed this one and the second in the series. It was an interesting premise, what if a detective can see ghosts, but can’t tell the difference between the living and the dead.
A new twist on the ghost world. Entertaining to the very end.
Entertaining and surprising. The author displays a really unique take on the afterlife, and it kept me interested.
