Everybody dies. Nobody leaves . . . Award-winning author Scott William Carter returns with his tenth novel, a spellbinding tale of a man who bridges both sides of the great divide. After narrowly surviving a near-fatal shooting, Portland detective Myron Vale wakes with a bullet still lodged in his brain, a headache to end all headaches, and a terrible side effect that radically transforms his … transforms his world for the worse: He sees ghosts. Lots of them.
By some estimates, a hundred billion people have lived and died before anyone alive today was even born. For Myron, they’re all still here. That’s not even his biggest problem. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t tell the living from the dead.
Despite this, Myron manages to piece together something of a life as a private investigator specializing in helping people on both sides of the great divide—until a stunning blonde beauty walks into his office needing help finding her husband. Myron wants no part of the case until he sees the man’s picture … and instantly his carefully reconstructed life begins to unravel.
“Carter’s writing is on target.” – Publishers Weekly
“The Sixth Sense meets Spenser For Hire in Scott William Carter’s magnificent Ghost Detective.” – Michael J. Totten, author of Taken
“Scott is one of those rare writers who can and does cross genres, and do it well. You never know what kind of story you’ll get from him, but you do know that it’ll be good.” – Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Hugo award-winning author of The Disappeared
From the author of The Gray and Guilty Sea and Wooden Bones, comes this riveting novel of a man cursed with a terrible gift. In a world where everybody dies but nobody leaves, Myron Vale is the rare individual who completely straddles both sides of the great divide. His strange ability resulting from a gunshot to the head while serving as a Portland police officer, a few years later he recovers to forge a new life as private investigator catering to both the living and the dead. With its memorable characters, taut prose, and spellbinding story, Scott William Carter’s Ghost Detective will haunt you long after you finish the final pages — a promising launch to what will hopefully be a long-running series.—FRP

this book ends on a come back to see what happens next theme
Lot of interesting twists and turns that keep the reader on edge enough to not want to put down the book yet keeping the pace of the read steady.
An original and compelling premise; I definitely didn’t predict the twist at the end. I look forward to reading more in the series.
Very good book. Hated that it ended !
I couldn’t get into this book. The premise intrigued me: A detective who can see and speak with the dead, but I couldn’t finish it. While there are no significant flaws with the book, there was nothing right enough to keep me going either. Readers are frequently, too frequently, reminded that the protagonist can’t tell the difference by looking at …
Can’t put it down.
This book is a novel way to view ghosts and deal with them. A glimpse into the mind of a paranormal. It’s not all fun and games. A good mystery to curl up with.
Thoroughly enjoyed this novel with its original take on what it’s like to be present on both sides of the veil. The story is well told, engaging and I hope to read the next volume soon.
Scary good read!
Not a bad book. Long and drawn out . I would of liked a ending instead of waiting for book 2
Looking forward to more Myron
Enjoyed the story very much.
great read
I did read it to the end — the idea of being able to see ghost and not tell them from living people was an interesting concept. However, there was just too much ‘poor me’ over the same thing–his relationship with his wife. Definitely, he loved her but I think that point was taken too far in this book. I think that overtook the entire story – to …
Ghost Detective: Scott William Carter. Not just a ghost story. This book has it all; more than one murder mystery; ghosts, friendly and antagonistic; and a love story. Easy to read, the story, even on the last page, keeps you wanting to know what will happen on the next page.
I really liked the premise regarding a detective who sees ghosts. I also like the writing style and the setting is in Oregon. However, there were too many ghosts and the detective can’t tell who is a ghost or not. Plus, there are millions more ghosts. Just too crazy. Author has another series set on the Oregon Coast so definitely worth checking …
This was a excellent ghost story.
Enjoyed it so much that I bought another book and enjoyed that also. Great main character
It was an easy read! Just an ok book!
I really enjoyed this book!! It was a great blend of wit and suspense. The only thing I wished the author had added was some type of notation as to date, because the book does have flashbacks to an earlier time and sometimes it took me a bit to figure out that what I was reading happened in the past. Otherwise, t was fun and creative, and a …
