Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.
And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Just like old times…
When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance – and then has to stop herself from jumping him.
Good friends are all they can ever be.

There are few authors that honestly make me laugh out loud when I read them. Emma Chase holds one of the top slots!
Getting Schooled is classic Emma, it’s is funny, it’s swoony and it makes you fall in love with a whole new set of characters!
This is the story of Garrett and Calaway (or Callie for short). High school sweethearts that have drifted apart and life carried on.
The are reunited after many years have gone by and when they see each other again, the chemistry is still there and still burning bright as ever.
The story is phenomenal, the music and 80’s references bring me back to my younger days. The small town feel was spot on and made you feel like you were one of the townsfolk. I worked in education for 15 years, the setting and the students were spot on! I loved the fact that Garrett and Calaway were teachers!
The secondary characters are fantastic and bring so much more to the story!
Emma has a magical view into the male psyche, her alternate POV’s are amazing! I love how every chapter just flows so easily!
The twist was surprising and brought a bit of angst to the story, along with the passing of “family member”. It brings another dimension to the story and it made me cry.
This story will give you all the feels! It’s a must read, like all of Emma’s books! I love Emma’s books and cannot wait to see what she comes out with next! I truly hope that some of the secondary characters get their own stories in the future!
Getting Schooled is a complete intoxicating home run!
Sexy, witty, heartfelt and just downright Emma Chase doing what Emma does best! She makes her characters etch their way into your heart! Which just brought the story to life for me!
I rather liked the characters in this story. When Callie returns home to help her sister look after her injured parents from a car accident(funny story)…what she doesn’t realize is…she will see Garrett again. It’s not till she has a new job at the local high school, these two cross paths again
Needless to say when they reconnect, it happens in a big way. You certainly get a sense of what a small town is too.
I really liked Garrett and Callie. They never lost their feelings for each other. I loved the families, Garrett’s friend Dean and I especially like the way the kids seemed to be more respectful of Callie.
These two have grown as adults and it’s wonderful to see how things develop. This is an easy read with a wonderful outcome.
Getting Schooled is such an epic read. It was funny, sweet, steamy, witty and full of heart. It wasn’t just the romance that would make your eyes water, there is so much more.
Callie has finally come home due to an unfortunate car accident of her parents. That itself was pretty much a legend-in-the-making. I couldn’t help but gasp, and LOL. Her parents are cool, way cooler than Callie, I suppose. After years of working in a theatre company, doing what she loves best, she came home to take care of them for a while. She got a temporary job teaching theatre in their local high school. Their own is so small that she could easily bump into her old high school sweetheart, Garret.
Former star-player, now coach and history teacher – Garret is the kind of teaching you’d like to ogle and listen to during unholy class hours. He knows about teenagers – he understands them and he listens to them. He’s a great coach and even a greater teacher. He’s one of those who touches lives, and the one you’d remember fondly during reunions.
It’s high school all over again. Only that, this time it allows us a glimpse of it from the other side of the fence. Being an adult in a world full of brooding, hormonal teenagers. It is chaos and fun all at once. Garret was teaching Callie ‘the works’ of being one of them. But more than just teaching them – the old sparks ignite, and soon they found themselves back in each other’s arms. Will they finally get their HEA? What happens when Callie goes back to her job?
Complicated. Nevertheless, this novel was well-written, with all those moments that would keep your heart warm and make you go – awww. It reminds me of loads of things, especially my teachers when I was in school, the cliques, the personalities – every single person who made a difference and mold lives. I love the fact that this novel is a second-chance romance. But more than just romance, Schooled offers more complex subjects that will bring back memories and will touch hearts. A must-read!
This is my first book by Emma Chase and she has been recommended lots by my friends and now I now why. This was a great introduction to her work and this new series. She has delivered a great heart-warming, funny, sweet and steamy story.
I loved Garrett and Callie, they were perfectly cute together, and they gave me all the feels. I laughed, I cried and I swooned. Second chance romances are one of my guilty pleasures and this one has become a favourite of mine.
If this is Emma’s style of writing I am looking forward to the next book in the series and will be checking out her backlist of books.
It’s been a couple years since I’ve read an Emma Chase story and MAN HAVE I MISSED HER! The last books I read were the Legal Briefs books and I just couldn’t stop once I started!
Getting Schooled took me to that place. You know the one. Where you’re almost giddy with anticipation for the next page but you don’t want to read too fast for fear the book will end … yeah, that one! This journey is a second chance to get it right for Callie and Garrett. Those are my fave, btw, so it was already winning before it began! High school sweethearts facing futures in opposite directions, they had no choice but to break apart. But circumstances bring them back together in a heartwarming, sexy, humorous journey. As I was reading their story, I couldn’t this feeling that these two were just meant to be but they wouldn’t be had they not traveled the roads they traveled in the time they were apart. Almost two decades but their joining was pretty seamless. At least for me it did.
I had a great time reading this story and it was not only packed with humor, but also heart. It’s the best combination you can ask for in a romantic comedy! Well done! I can’t wait to carve out some reading time and binge a few more books by Emma!

This is one amazingly wonderful second chance romance!
I must admit this was unexpected from Emma Chase, it felt very different than other books I’ve read and it made me feel like I was reading a new authors work.
She definitely didn’t disappoint like she never has so far.
The story was so easy to keep up with and the words just kept flowing by.
Garrett and Callie, two high school sweethearts that somehow got separated by life and the decisions both of them thought were the best for them at the time.
It turned out their love never died just waited for the right time to be rekindled again.
They are beyond adorable and simply belong together.
Narration:
Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber did a great job with this narration.
The one that stood out in pretty much every moment was Zachary.
His performance was perfect and I enjoyed every second of this audiobook.
I loved every minute of reading this book. Even the minutes that had tears rolling down my face. Garret and Callie were expertly crafted characters and it was lovely watching them reunite. As a New Jersey native, it was especially nice to see Emma Chase create a New Jersey town and have it play a role in the book.
Garret and Callie were high school sweethearts but life and college separated them. When Callie returns to her hometown to take care of her parents (who, btw, had the most amusing and cringe-worthy accident), she quickly runs into Garret again. Garret is the local history teacher and football coach and Callie ends up becoming the drama teacher. Full of a cast of interesting and well-developed minor characters, Getting Schooled is a lovely story. Callie and Garret quickly realize that neither has gotten over the other. The return to home for Callie means a chance to examine her life and realize that Garret is what she wants. This story has humor, love, and at times, provokes tears. Plus adorable dogs which is always a plus. Garret and Callie just fit as a couple and their love story is believable. Not angst but rather sweet, Getting Schooled is the perfect summer read, especially when you need a break from the tragedies in the real world. I totally recommend!
Getting Schooled has a different tone than previous Emma Chase stories. It’s much funnier in a sarcastic, zany; everyone’s hyped up on Monster energy drink, small town Middle America, crazy Uncle Larry way. If I had to guess, I’d say the author let loose and just had fun with this one. So. Did. I.
Now, I’m gonna admit it took me a while to warm up to Garret Daniels. He’s a bit…cocky. Kinda reminded me a little of another well-known and beloved Chase hero who also thinks very highly of himself. When I realized Garret’s overabundance of self-confidence was equaled by his big, mushy heart, he had me.
Callie and Garrett are surprisingly alike. Her ego is no match for Garrett’s, but she’s as direct, self-confident, with a big heart and goals she isn’t afraid to go after. She’s just as quick to throw out a snarky insult or curse as he. It was refreshing, and I loved that about her. Together they are fun, and have an explosive chemistry.
There is a large, multifaceted supporting cast that makes this the outstanding story it is. They are so unique they practically jump off the page. They are you; me; our annoying, adored siblings; our exasperating, embarrassing, lovable parents; our crazy, irritating, awesome friends; and all our fellow awkward classmates, and bat-shite crazy teachers from our school days. They will make you laugh, and they will burrow into your heart.
Getting Schooled is steamy, hilarious, nostalgic, emotional, and heartwarming.

THE AUDIOBOOK EXPERIENCE
I love the audiobook of Getting Schooled and I every time I get the chance to listen to it again, I will, because Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did a great job bringing to life these amazing characters, and making every scene in this story even funnier, sexier, more emotional and more romantic <3 – Full audiobook review here.
CALLIE AND GARRETT’S FAMILY
I love how Emma wrote so many awesome secondary characters, especially Callie and Garrett’s family.
The reason why Callie had to move back and stay for a year in Lakeside, NJ, is her parents LOL They were in a car accident—not the reason why I’m laughing—because they were very affectionate with each other *chuckles* and well, they both needed to be taken care of and only Callie could do it, because her sister—another awesome secondary character—couldn’t do it all by herself.
Garrett’s family was great too, but his brother, Connor, and his family drama was so funny to read LOL OMG I feel like Connor needs his own book. I bet that would be a great and entertaining story to read.
CALLIE’S THEATER STUDENTS
Being a teacher was Garrett’s choice. He was passionate about teaching history and coaching football and making sure he did his part in schooling better kids for the future—I really love love love how dedicated Garrett was with his kids—and after so many years working, he was an expert. But for Callie, it was a temporary job, something to do while she was in town taking care of her parents, and of course it wasn’t going to be easy, not with teenagers but she had Garrett to give her all the insight about being a good teacher, and that saying “the good student beats the teacher” fits perfectly here, because she did amazing with her drama students, they did a great play “Little Shop of Horrors”, and more than that, she did the best she could helping those kids, loving them and schooling them to be better people for the future. Just like Garrett taught her how to do it.
“But don’t feel too bad, don’t let them walk on you. Our job isn’t to protect them from their own dumb choices; it’s to teach them to make better ones. Teach them how not to be a screw-up in a screwed up world.”
GARRETT’S FOOTBALL TEAM
These boys were the best! They looked up at Couch D with so much admiration and respect, and they let him lead them to victory. At the beginning of the year, Garrett had to make a decision that any other coach would have been afraid to do, but not Garrett. He believed in his team and that’s why they all respected him. I particularly loved the scenes of the game in this book. I know nothing about American football and I felt all the excitement of the game and cheered the wins!!
THE HUMOR, THE EMOTION, AND THE ROMANCE
I laugh out loud, hysterically so, every time I’ve read this book. I’ve swoon of love for Garrett. I’ve dreamed of being Callie so many times—she’s so lucky. I’ve cried like a baby at one point in the story. Getting Schooled is the kind of books that make me feel all the emotions, without causing me a heart attack—zero angst, thank god—and I love it more and more every time I repeat it.
DEAN
Oh, Dean! I can’t help but think of Dean Winchester LOL Dean was the best friend, the joker, the good teacher, the guy who follows his dream of being a drummer during the summers. I loved every scene with Dean, and once I knew he’d be the next lead in the series, I’ve paid more attention to his parts and I. LITERALLY. CAN’T. WAIT. FOR. HIS. BOOK.
“Dean was a player with a capital “play.” He had a different girlfriend every few weeks and he was faithful to none of them—though that never stopped the next girl from wanting a crack at taming him. But he was a good, loyal friend to Garrett—to both of us.”
SNOOPY
I love pets in books, and I love it more when they have a huge part in the story. Snoopy was Garrett’s best friend for so many years. For me, Snoopy was one of the few things Garrett had of Callie after they ended up things so many years ago. And in the present, Snoopy is the cutest old dog who loves football, who helps Garrett during practice, who likes to “see” Garrett hahahaha. OMG, I love that dog.
“I toss my keys on the front hall table and head into the living room to find my best friend curled up, asleep on the couch. He’s soft, snow white—like a baby seal—and weighs about twenty-five pounds. He’s a great listener, he gets fired up at the TV when a ref makes a bad call, and his favorite pastime is licking his own balls. I found him, small and dirty, in the ShopRite parking lot my senior year of high school. Or maybe . . . he found me. “Snoopy,” I whisper, pressing my nose into his downy fur.”
CALLIE
Callie was funny, smart, caring, smart and has the best taste in music and men She’s one of those characters that I just had to love from the very first line I read about her and that I loved more with every chapter that I read. One of the things I loved the most about her is that she knew Garrett by heart and she knew what he needed. No matter how many years they were apart, she knew him and that made more easy for her to fall back in love with him.
“Come over tonight, Cal. Even if it’s just for an hour or ten minutes, I don’t care. I’ll feed you ramen and do dirty things to you.” I laugh. How could any girl say no to an offer like that?
GARRETT
Oh, Garrett… Hot, sexy, cocky and absolute perfect Garrett. What else can I say about him that I haven’t said in this top 10? He’s one helluva guy. I love how he much he loves his family, his kids at school, his friends, his cute Snoopy and of course, Callie.
“You were always my girl, Callie, even after you weren’t anymore.”
GARRETT & CALLIE BACK TOGETHER!
What an awesome second chance for Garrett and Callie!! I loved how they fall back in love with each other. Slowly, steadily, creating a new relationship more solid, more mature. I love how Emma wrote the story without giving away quickly what happened in the past that set them apart but revealing it in the right moment, giving the story the perfect amount of feels. Because this book has all the feels!!
“I feel the tip of her wet tongue stroking mine and I moan. I lean forward over her, my arms pulling her closer, my hands sliding into the silk of her hair, cradling her head—holding her right where I want her. Where I need her to stay—tight, flush against me, chest to chest, breath to breath. Right here, right there.”
Emma Chase once again steals my heart!! This sinfully sweet read of childhood romance rekindled 15 years later is EVERYTHING. Garrett and Callie are a match made in heaven, two pieces of a puzzle just looking to be reunited under perfect circumstances.
Callie and Garrett are freakin dreamy! Garrett, once the high school football star, is now the delish history teach and football coach at his old high school. Loving his life, he never expected Callie to walk back through those high school doors. Their attraction is immediate, a flame lit back to life. Everything sizzles when they’re together. My kindle pages couldn’t turn fast enough to devour their sweet, hawt romance.
This book flowed so effortlessly; Emma Chase’s writing is so natural. I would have read 3 more epilogues if she’d hand them over. Garrett and Callie have a love story that is a thing of beauty. While they lead simple lives, they are rich in love, family and joy. Getting Schooled filled my heart to the TOP! I couldn’t stop smiling the whole way through. I loved it
This is real and solid…and us. How did I breath without this? How will I exist without it?”
Emma Chase has popped my audible cherry! Yep, that’s right. GETTING SCHOOLED is my very first audiobook and it was BEYOND a success! Garrett Daniels is EVERYTHING! Callie Carpenter is EVERYTHING! These two together…are FREAKING EVERYTHING! I also have to say that even though this is my first audiobook, I’ve definitely heard the names Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber in the romance book community. They have narrated and worked with some of my favorite authors so I was doubly excited for this to be my first! To me, they are officially the King and Queen of the audible world! Along with the EPIC WRITING of Emma Chase, they brought Garrett and Callie to life! I found myself rewinding on multiple occasions to hear the insane sexiness of Zachary’s voice (even with some of the Jersey accents)! I’ll let that slide, kid. And Andi’s beautiful voice took Callie to a whole other level. Together, these two voiced something magical and something unforgettable! I will never forget this first experience, that’s for sure!
“Tell me you’re mine.”
Emma Chase, I will ALWAYS crave your words, your stories, your characters. You bring magic and emotion to each and every single page. Garrett and Callie’s story brought so much light to my life and so much fullness to my heart. Once I began, there was no going back! I wanted SO MUCH MORE! Ms. Chase’s words are addicting, expressive, and emotional. They’re hilarious, sensual, and invigorating! She helps bring these characters to life and makes the romance that much more special. I’m in LOVE! I’m absolutely head over heels, smitten, so far-gone, intensely and completely IN LOVE! I’ve read every single one of Emma Chase’s stories and I have to say, this one right here, it just might be my all time favorite of hers! I’m not sure if the audiobook version sealed the deal for me, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll be reading it ALL OVER AGAIN when the eBook releases in June!
Get ready to smile, swoon, laugh, and cry! Get ready to…GET SCHOOLED!
I love a good second chance romance and this one did not disappoint.
We start off meeting Garrett. And honestly, I wasn’t terribly impressed right off the bat. He came across as a bit of a cocky prick. He did win me over though. He’s pretty amazing actually.
Next, we meet Callie as she’s about to achieve her life-long dream. But a call from home has her putting her life on hold temporarily. She is sweet and sassy and I’d really like to have a drink or twelve with her and her friends.
This book has a bit of a unique spin on the second chance romance aspect, so it was really easy for Garrett and Callie to fall back into each other’s arms. It was almost too easy. But it worked for them. It was always easy for them.
I really enjoyed the high school setting. I wish I had more teachers like them when I was in high school. I loved the interactions they had with their students.
I ugly cried for one chapter. Yup. I wasn’t expecting it. And it gutted me. But, otherwise, the angst was minimal and this was a fun and sweet story. I really enjoyed it. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for more books from this world. *cough*Dean*cough* In the meantime though, you should definitely read this book.
Getting Schooled by Emma Chase is the first book I have read by this author and now wonder why I waited so long to read her. This was an adorable and charming second chance romance with all the right feels.
Garret Daniels is used to being on top. He was the star quarterback of his high school team and is now just as beloved as the football coach and teacher. His life could not be more perfect and there is nothing he would change. He loves what he does, has his friends, home and dog. What else could a man want?
Callie Carpenter is back home, even if it’s not where she wants to be. But she is back to help her parents and is substituting at her old high school. Then Garret offers to help get her settled. She can take his help and keep him at arm’s length, right?
I absolutely loved Garret and Callie together. Though these two have history, there is no unnecessary drama, expect what comes from living in a small town. They had great chemistry and loved seeing them together. They were once high school sweethearts, but life took them in different direction. Now that they have a second chance, will they hold on to it or will they part ways again?
I truly enjoyed reading Getting School by Emma Chase and look forward to reading so much more from her! This was such a sweet and charming second chance romance that had me repeatedly swooning. Books like this is why we read romance!

~~ AN A++ and ALL THE STARS!~~
I am MADLY in love with this brand new release of GETTING SCHOOLED by Emma Chase! Small-town reunion romance, love, laughter, swoony, heart-tugging feels…this book HAD IT ALL. And yup, I might have an itty bitty schoolgirl crush on roguishly charming Coach D!
Emma Chase always intertwines humor and sensuality and drama so seamlessly in her books, and I think she did a particularly phenomenal job of crafting this captivating second chance love story between former high school sweethearts Callie Carpenter and Garrett Daniels.
Divergent life goals and a heartbreaking tragedy tore these lovebirds asunder. But years later they reunite when Callie returns home for an extended visit to help out during a family emergency and ends up reconnecting with her hunky first love, Garrett, when she takes a job as a substitute drama teacher at Lakeside High where her former flame also works. Garrett found a new passion for teaching/coaching after a career ending injury sidelined his dreams of NFL stardom and is beloved among teachers and students alike.
Sparks fly as soon as they set eyes on each other again and they fall so easily back into each other’s lives, loving and supporting each other through thick and thin. The unfolding romance between Garrett and Callie was relatively low angst but chock full of warm, gushy feels and so sweet and sexy it took my breath away! Their connection was fun and flirty, poignant and achingly tender, and their red hot chemistry SCORED on every level!
But this book goes SO MUCH DEEPER than a typical second chance romance! I loved the bustling high school backdrop, which is woven masterfully throughout, and the students are a pivotal part of the story, infusing it with heartfelt drama and palpable emotion.
The author sensitively depicts the challenges the younger generation faces today with all its rules and rituals and bittersweet pangs of youth, and one of my favorite parts of the story was Garrett’s fierce devotion to his kids! He was an amazing mentor and role model, and his brand of tough yet tender love as he instilled valuable life lessons and helps his students navigate the ups and down of high school society resonated so deeply it gave me GOOSEBUMPS! And Callie’s commitment to her students was just as touching! And I would be remiss if I did not give a shoutout to Garrett’s beloved dog, Snoopy!!! Their loving bond, and the culmination of that story arc, SLAYED MY HEART!
And the HEA ending? Omg! Fanfreakingtastic! Wept happy, joyous tears!
BOTTOM LINE:
GETTING SCHOOLED stole my heart! I laughed. Cried. Sighed. Sniffled. Swooned. Rejoiced. And ultimately became so enamored with the close-knit town of Lakeside, NJ, and the colorful cast of characters residing there, that saying goodbye was hard indeed!
But word is this is the first book in an interconnected series and will wait with bated breath for the talented Ms. Chase to gift us with future installments!
This is … you and me … the reboot.
I expected to laugh, I expected to swoon, but I didn’t expect to cry! TWICE!
Emma Chase never ceases to amaze me. Her storylines are solid, and her characters are brilliant! But her voice and the way she manipulates words into stories are beautiful.
Garrett Daniels and Callaway Carpenter were childhood sweethearts. The star football quarterback and the homecoming queen, they were perfect together. They were the IT couple. After graduation, Callie moved to California to study theatre and Garrett stayed home to become a teacher and coach. Recognizing the difficulty in having a long distance relationship, the two broke up.
Many years later, Callie is back in her childhood hometown helping to take care of her parents. Needing a job, she agrees to work as a long-term substitute for the theatre teacher. As soon as Garrett sees Callie walking into his school, he knows he’s not letting her go a second time.
As for what I want … I want you, Callie. For as long as you’re here, for as long as you’ll let me have you. I want all of you.
The sexual tension was delicious! The chemistry between these two was so hot I had fears I would spontaneously combust during their sex scenes. I loved both of these characters so much. Callie was inspiring with her independent, self-assured personality. I loved it when she questioned Garrett and his feelings for her, rather than carrying on for pages wondering how he felt! THANK YOU, Emma! With his cocksure ways and tender, kind heart, Garrett was the good – bad boy, women dream of!
Confident. Capable. I feel an indescribably calming sensation in the presence of such self-assurance. I always knew, if I were ever unsure or confused, it was okay–because Garrett would know what to do. I could put myself in those skilled hands, follow his lead, and it would all turn out fine.
A second chance romance, Getting Schooled was sexy, lighthearted fun with a sprinkle of serious, tear-jerking moments.
Sweet, sexy and funny second chance romance! I adore Callie and Garrett!! A definite must read!!Getting Schooled
Callie and Garrett were high school sweethearts who loved each other more than anything. However, when college came, the distance seemed too much to handle. They both went their own ways. Sixteen years later and they are now in the same town at the same time and both single.
Callie was a in the theater business. She was open, honest, and emotional. Garrett was a history teacher and coached football. He was such a great role model, supportive teacher, and friend. His love for his students really shined throughout the whole book.
This was a fun, quick read with little to no drama. It was a great second chance romance in a small town.
I loved the scenes with the students the best. As a teacher, I could relate to Callie and Garrett in several scenarios.
-An ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review. –
OMG, I absolutely LOVED Getting Schooled! Seriously. I am a huge fan of second chance romance, add in the fun and crazy behind the curtain look at teachers and their antics and I was hooked!
I loved the dynamic between Garrett and Callie. That their “first love” status really didn’t change even all these years later. That they still had that connection, that spark. The love that still simmered underneath their skin. Swoon.
Lord, and that crazy cast of characters was an added bonus. Between the principal, the other teachers, and the students, I couldn’t read fast enough to keep up with all their shenanigans.
Getting Schooled is easily one of my favorite books of 2018!
Loved this book!!! I had the pleasure of listening to this in audio as well as print and it was equally amazing. Garrett and Cali were refreshing characters. The humor Emma sprinkles throughout the story had me laughing out loud and having the school as a backdrop gave us many characters to color the canvas.
What a second chance romance…..it truly was just like high school all over again watching Garrett and Cali make new memories while reliving some of their old. I loved how easy they were with one another. Although years and distance kept them absent from each other’s lives they were never absent from each others hearts.
What I love most about Emma’s writing is the ability to get lost between the pages so that you feel like you are right there on the sidelines with Coach Daniels and Miss Carpenter. You feel their attraction, frustration, loss (cause yes she made me cry) and love. I would gladly take one for the team. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series.
